Strength:

Great picture, Price

Weakness:

Ever so slightly noisy transport

I have had my Pioneer 525 DVD player for about two months now. The transport noise I talked about in an earlier review has seemed to subside. I think it just needed some break-in time. I no longer really notice the transport noise anymore except when I first load up a disc and start it. Awesome player. You will not be disappointed. 5 STARS ALL THE WAY!!!

Strength:

Plays all the formats that I use including Auido CD and CDR.

Weakness:

None, for me. But it could be quieter.

I read the reviews and believed what I read. A great machine at a great price. My friends don't compare in picture quality.

I could have spent more for more bell and whistles (love 'em!), but with my ordinary component input TV, don't miss them - yet.

Overall great machine, great price.

Strength:

Great picture Quality, Played ALL difficult DVD's with no problem. Digital Output is not down mixed to 48mhz

Weakness:

It is a little noisy, seems to be only or certain disks or during the first 2-5 tracks

I can tell you all that I did some SERIOUS homework. I cheched at least 20 different user groups including this one in addition to consumer reviews from top magazines. For me it was really between this and the Panasonic 120a. What decided it for me was the fact that the Panasonic units were too hot or cold( review ranges were too extreme), the other more importantly was the Digital Output that isn't down mixed to 48mhz, the Pioneer even lights up to tell you when you have selected a source capable of that output. I am hoping that the unit will quit down a little as I saw previously written but I don't regret my decison one bit. The Pioneer just has too many advantages in my mind over the Panasonic.
GREAT UNIT with the $50.00 rebate makes this a no brainer!!

Strength:

Price, Sound and Vidoe quality & CDR capablity !

Weakness:

Noisy transport !

Great money saver for this level of DVD player ! You can't find any DVD player at this price level will beat it. Video and audio quality is good ( Of course , you cannot compare with those High end DVD players.)No problem to play any self-recorded CDR type VideoCD. This is one of the main reason I chose this model and those SONY 2ND(0r 3rd) generation DVD players cannot read any CDR. It is very disappointing and actually, some 1st gen. SONY DVD players will play CDR and I don't understand what they would take out this feature which they have already implemented.... ??
I havn't seen any Lip-syn problem yet ! And the remote can be made better. I just got it from The GoodGuys at $299 but they have the holiday rebate $50 plus the netflix.com $50 dollar worth of movie rental and of course the Pioneer $50 rebate, 5 DVD and 13 free rental from Blockbuster. It comes up to be ...$50 dollar all together to get this DVD player.
Hurry ! If you want to get this player !

Strength:

Picture quality, sweet audio

Weakness:

None so far............

Just purchased this unit last week, and have only viewed 3 movies so far. Problem with 2 of them. On one, the picture developed a "split" in it and sort of pixeled for a few seconds. I tried the disk in my neighbors and the problem did not occure. I tried it a second time in mine and it was less but still present. On another movie any on screen text seemed a little blurry. I'm using the S-Video connection and dont' know if this is contributing to the minor problems. I have experienced so far. I'm not giving up on this unit yet though. I have not experienced any transport noise so far. The remote is alright. I'm going to give this player a four star hoping the above mentioned problems do not reoccure.

Strength:

Great picture and sound quality

The unit is wonderful, so far it played all my DVDs with no flaws, no interruptions, no audio drop, no freezings. Even Matrix plays with no problem. And the tray is really not that noisy as some claim. Of course it is not silent, but not annoying either.
The remote has a nice design, and once you get to know it, you can find most buttons in the dark, just by touching and recognizing their shape and location.
I recommend this player as I consider it the next generation compared to Toshiba 2109 and Panasonic A120, and the best DVD player currently on the market for under $300.

Strength:

Great sound, great video, easy to use and setup, and a great price

Weakness:

None for me

I've had this player for awhile and have not experienced any problems so far. I have this connected to a Pioneer 608D receiver and the sound is amazing. I just watched my first DTS DVD and I couldn't believe what I was hearing.

Great machine.

Strength:

Has so far work reliably.

Weakness:

DVD spin noise at low volume. Remote buttons are hard to read.

We purchased this player as an inexpensive unit for our bedroom. Unfortunately, that is where its two weak points show the most. When listening at lower volume levels, you can hear the DVD spinning loudly. This is VERY annoying. In order to use the remote, you must turn on a light and get out your reading glasses to figure out which button to push. That also is annoying. I am shocked at all of the great reveiws for this product. I'm keeping mine, but wish I'd purchased a quieter unit.

Strength:

very good video quality with s-video

Weakness:

annoying remote

Somehow I don't find the transport noise to be that annoying...it's barely noticeable behind a glass door and impossible to hear except in total silence. Haven't had any problems with any DVD's and I'm not missing the extra features on others players (zoom, etc.). Got it for $199 at Good Guys...at that price, it's also a great value. Besides the annoying remote (which I replaced anyway) I heartily recommend this player.
