Strength:
Reasonable price; good sound with audio CDs
Weakness:
Only once did I get the "no disc" error message; does not have component output. I am completely happy with this unit for the price I paid. It has served me well as my first DVD player and it sounds fine with audio CDs. Other than a single instance of getting a "no disc" error message when it actually had a disc in play it has been flawless. I will probably move this over as a bedroom system and invest in a higher end Sony to replace it when I also get a larger TV. I do not care for the remote at all; it is acceptable but not great. Strength:
great picture and sound when it worked
Weakness:
great picture and sound when it worked I was very happy when i bought this product, and after 1 year to the day, severe pixelation after the layer change on all discs, i have been able to make it stop by pressing stop and then play from the remote, but very convenient during a movie. After all, we spend all of this money for convenience right? I will call panasonic cust support tomorrow when i get out of work, and see what happens - sure it will be cheaper to just buy something else, since all warranties are up. Damn vcr has lasted 6 years no problem.. i guess all electronics are going disposable. Imagine my embarrassment when the whole family comes in from out of state for the holidays and we put in a movie and it becomes unwatchable at the layer switch! it only took 15 min to figure it out, but after i stopped it and restart i was able to clear it up, but now it happens on all discs. Of course the best part was "All of this setup cost you how much?" i guess i can forget about the pronto remote i saved for all year and go buy a new dvd player .. I will also try the software reboot first, from below press rewind pause and power at the same time.. as for the lawsuit metioned below if someone wants to start it send me an email..for the rating i give it 1 star on value, $400 for a years worth of entertainment and then prob another $400 for the next, is not very valuable. i gave it 2 stars because it did work well for one year.. |

Strength:
Well, It was a DVD player for a few months.
Weakness:
Forces you to buy a new player or use your movies for skeet shooting. I bought this thing over a year ago. Like some others here I had been extremely pleased with my A110 but you can add me to the list of people burned by the defective panasonic A110. Similar Products Used: I doesn't matter! |

problematic Ditto's to complaint's & problems listed by other e-mailer's. Timeline and problem sequence almost identical to mine. Have been thinking of taking my player for repair's but with horror stories like these am considering my local waste disposal service as my best possible solution. Have alway's held Panasonic products in high regard but am begining to see my previous trust may no longer be founded. If this disregard by Panasonic for consumer product support is typical of their current company policy I can never again give them a product recommendation. I am not a novice to hometheather having purchased my first prologic system nearly 10 yr's ago and upgraded it to digital in 1998. I have owned many different brands of equipment and to this point have never experienced a negative product support problem from any other manufacture. I hope Panasonic has the family jewels to own up to their product problem's & correct them before it get's so bad they loose all consumer support. |

failed to work after limited use Beware...do not buy any panasonic products! They do not stand behind their products or warranties. After limited use of the dvd player, the product was unable to read the disc. The player was returned to the company..only to be returned to us after the warranty had expired, without any repairs made. The product and company SUCK. The company response...buy another panasonic...YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!! |

Its a Panasonic F/U to previous review: Well, I hate to say it but I was right about the response I would get from Panasonic. I just got off the phone with them and this is what they said. "There are no recalls on the A110 to correct any problems". I guess these problems are only aparent to us consumers. "We are not concerned with the small percentage of people that have problems with our product". I guess we don't mean jack to them! They told me that we were such a small percentage of the consumers that they felt there was no problem to deal with. My statement that they got their money and that was all they were concerned with was right on the mark. I hope all of you who have Panasonic products have good luck with them because ther is no customer support if you have any problems. I, on the other hand, am going to look up other brands on audioreview.com and find another brand of DVD player to buy. Good luck to all and to the 1% who don't matter to Panasonic, SPEAK UP AND BE HEARD! |

Purchased the player in January, for about ~$300 which was not too bad back then . Was very happy and had not experienced any problems until July when the "no disc" error popped up. I Tried resetting the machine with the technician on the phone and it did not help. What's up with that? At the very least Panasonic should not charge for labor. Its in PA right now and I am out $100 for labor charges (although they emphasize that they will cover the part due to the one-year warranty on parts- ooohhh). Needless to say, I do not recommend Panasonic dvd players to anyone. |

The audio capability of the A110 is AWESOME!!! I just bought a 24/96 DVD of Muddy Waters from Classic records and can't stop listening to it! However, to output the true 24/96 signal you must use the ANALOG output on the DVD. If you use the DIGITAL output it will down convert the signal to 16/48 for copyright protection. You MUST ALSO select "off" at the LPCM setting in the DVD player. This is not very well explained in the owners manual ( page 76 ). It took me a couple of weeks to figure it out. Running 24/96 on my Yamaha RX-V2095 sounds just as good as the $30,000 vacuum tube set-up I listened to today at a local hi end shop. The SACD and 24/96 formats sound the death knell for LP's and tubes. RIP. |

I purchased the A110 in May of 1998 for $360 and have had no problems with it. I have seen Sony's and Pioneer's in action and they lack the fast/slow forward/reverse flexibility that this unit has. There are 11 forward speeds (5 slow, 5 fast, one being normal playback) and 10 reverse speeds. The unit has only had the occasional flicker with a scratched rental disc and the video is crisp. |
