I compared this unit to many other that were of comparable price. I looked at the Toshiba, Sony, Pioneer, Samsung and others that were $400 and under without the built in digital decoder. I was planning on buying a Dolby Digital Receiver with built in Dolby Digital and DTS decoder so I would feel covered for any other audio needs that might pop up such as digital cable. To me, this seemed to be the only way to go. In my opinion the Panasonic A110 had the best picture quality out of any of the DVD players that I looked at. I've tested it out on countless movies looking for a glitch from a picture too hard to handle (caused by the player and not the DVD) and I haven’t found one yet. The thing that really sold me on the A110 though, was the fact that it had DTS sound. None of the brands even remotely close to my price range had DTS. Yes, there were others out that were DTS ready but when I started looking at those the price jumped way up. I have my A110 hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V795 Receiver that has built in Dolby Digital and DTS. I feel like I'm in movie Heaven and with the Dolby digital and DTS built in my receiver I feel comfortable about the future of my home theatre. This Panasonic is a winner and as for the Yamaha, well that is another rave review. |

Based on reviews from this site and others, I purchased the A-110 as an entry level DVD unit. I am playing the A-110 through my Yamaha RX-2095. Video and audio performance is exceptional. I have not experienced any of the reported problems with dual layer discs. To the contrary, the performance of the A-110 has been flawless. If this is only an entry level DVD, I can only imagine what a "high end" unit is capable of. If you buy this unit, you will NOT be disappointed. |

Got this unit in Dec. 98, am satisfied with it. I don't have a receiver yet but hooked it up to someone's DD receiver and it sounded great. Plays perfect even when a friend complains about jitter on his Japanese animation DVD on his Sony S-300 DVD player. Paid $299 + tax. locally. Excellent for the value at the time which this unit has DTS out. It's still selling at $299. Panasonic is introducing A115/A120 which has component output and other features, A110 >might< be discontinued. |

I'm gonna try to make this short and sweet. I agree with all the positive reviews on this item. Can't hardly beat this price. It was one of the few to include DTS when I purchased it. As far a problems with dual layer discs? Never had any problem. Come on, be honest, if your considering this product your trying to save a few dollars and yet still get into the DVD world right? Well for the money this is hard to beat. period One little nit-pick though. The "disc try open" button is about an 1/8th in away from "play" on the remote. This has caused several nasty words in our house when the lights are low and you paused it to go get another bowl of popcorn! |

Strength:
Was an excellent machine when it was working.
Weakness:
Well you can add me to the list of folks whose Panasonic A110 has fallen to the "pixellation/freeze" problem. Before I was made aware of the scope of this problem by this website I took my A110 back to Best Buy. Their service center told me that it would cost over $200 U.S. to fix the problem. I told them to ship it back and I am at this time waiting for it. Subsequently since becoming aware of how widespread this problem is, I have contacted Panasonic and told them of my problem. They called me back today and "Chris" told me to send it to the nearest Panasonic service center for a $45.00 "evaluation." I will do so A.S.A.P. in the mean time I hope that Panasonic will choose to do the right thing in my case also. Similar Products Used: Sony DVP-S360 |

Strength:
RELIABILITY!, great video quality, price
Weakness:
Lacking on special features I wonder at the reliability issues raised here. I have had this unit for 2 years and have not had any issues whatsoever. It plays without pause every DVD I put into it. It does a reasonably good job on CD audio. The video quality is as good as anything I have seen. I work with 4 or 5 others who purchased this unit at my word. All currently still use this unit and have had no issues. They range from 1-2 years of use. The high demand for this unit at certain points may have resulted in some quality control issues. It happens to the best and I would caution saying you would never buy any other Panasonic products. I live and breathe their televisions. Their support I can't say much about...I've never needed to call them. I recommend that everyone consider the number of Toshiba (a fairly well respected unit) 2108's that can be found refurbished out there. |

I have been using this product almost nightly for the past 11 months. Have yet to have any problems. No pixelation, no disc reading errors (except for cdr music, big deal to me) and the sound has remained excellent. This untit was purchased for a bedroom and I must say that when my Faroudja went out in the media room, I was upset... Repalced with this one temporarily and had still had little to no problems. In fact it was hard to notice any differences between the 2 products... I guess all of the bad review must be due to those few lemons that fall off any line. The worst car I ever owned was a honda.... go figure... |

Generally, I'm happy with this player. There have been several hiccups, though. First, I have had trouble with pixelization on several discs. It is very sensitive to foreign material on the disc (e.g., fingerprints). I bought the Criterion Special Edition Disc of Robocop and the disc locked up about halway through. I wrote Criterion to get a replacement, and when I told them I had the A-110, they said the problem was the player's firmware. Skeptical I tried the disc in several other models - without a hitch. I wrote Panasonic about the problem, and they blithely referred me to the dreaded authorized repair agent. Second, the player will not read music CD-R media. I have the player hooked up digitally to a Denon 2700 and the sound and picture are great. |

Strength:
?
Weakness:
It WILL fail after the warranty expires... Same deal as everybody else... Slowly degrading, pixelation problem followed by the No Disc message problem. Called Panasonic customer support and this b*-on-wheels "Chris" called back. Rude, loud and obnoxious. Wouldn't even let me state my problem. She was so rude, I called back to complain about the treatment I got from her. Look, I'm not looking to pull something on them, but it appears a high number of these players were defective. All she offered was the free $45 evaluation. At this point looks like I'm screwed. I'm just going to have to buy another DVD player. I won't buy another Panasonic anything from now on. |
