My first purchase of a DVD player was the fabulous Sony DVP S7000. I loved this machine. Well built, nice looks, great performance. However, this $1000 unit lacked one major thing. DTS capabile output for DVD applications. Since I recently upgraded to the Yamaha DSP A1 amp, I decided that I needed to rid myself of the Sony DVP S7000 and find a dvd player that could perform well and pass a DTS signal for DVD.
Enter the Panasonic DVD A110.
Before selling my Sony 7000, I did a direct comparison with the Panasonic DVD A110.
Picture quality: same or better on the Panasonic !!! (Can this be right? Yes, as both I and my friends confirmed this several times)
DVD Audio quality: same as picture quality
Audio through analog outputs: Good but not as good as the Sony. However, since the D/A's in the Yamaha DSP A1 sound better than those of the Sony DVP S7000 that shortly became a moot point.

Additionally, the Panasonic has 96 KHz/24 bit DACs while the Sony downconverts to 48KHz/20 bit.

Ergonomics: The Sony was better, better remote as well but hey it retails for double the price.

Considering that the Panasonic DVD A110 can be had for only $349 shipped to your door with warranty included, it makes this machine a steal to those looking to get a dvd player that performs well and keeps up with the current standards in the audio industry.
I rate this player 5 stars for value, 5 stars for performance, 3 stars for ergonomics and 5 stars for all of the entertainment it provides me with in my home.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Combine this beauty with the Yamaha DSP A1 and you have a killer system that costs only:
Yamaha DSP A1 $1999 shipped
Panasonic DVD A110 $349 shipped
Total cost: $2349

Q: What can compete with this?
A: Nothing !!!

My brother in-law who live a cross the street from me bought this unit so I do have a lot of time checking it out. For movies, the picture and sound (in AC-3) is good. However, when it come to music (through the A110 digital PCM), the A110 fell flat on its' face. Him and I kept wonder why it did not sounded good until I stumble upon a review on the internet of the A310 (http://www.soundstage.com/video/revequip/ian01.html). It's turned out that Panasonic put out only 16bit/48kHz sampling rate through its' digital PCM. This means that it's not good to use it as a transport. Even music through the analog audio outputs is subpar so now my brother in-law is looking to sell his A110 and buy the Toshiba 3108. It's much more simpler and cost effective to have a unit that have music and movies sound tracks play through one digital cable. For a beginner system the A110 get a 5 stars but it does not fit well into a beter system.

This DVD player is awesome. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of other more expensive players, but for $349 with DTS and DD compatibility who cares! The sound and picture quality is excellent!

The Panasonic A110 is an excellent DVD player! The video quality is excellent, out beating many higher priced models, and it has fewer glitches with software than the Toshiba’s and Sony's, in my experience. The sound is great for many of the more moderately price DVD players. Don't let the $300 - 400 price scare you into thinking it's cheap. This player is all you need if you already have AC3 and/or DTS decoder. Then in a few years when standards start to become standard upgrade to a high performance player that can double as a CD transport.

I would highly recommend this DVD player to anyone who is looking for a moderatly priced unit. Picture quality is excellent, its pretty user freindly and has all the functions I need. The remote is cheasy, and the sound quality isnt much better than a Sony when listening to the stereo outs, but used with an external DAC it makes a decent cd player too. For the money I dont think you can beat this one.

I bought this unit because David Ranada chose this unit as one of the best products he reviewed for the year for Stereo Review. I know most people don't put much weight on Stereo Review around here, but the sound quality for CD's is truly astounding. Don't waste your money on an ultra expensive CD player. This player will kick its ass and shows what a sham the high-end world really is. The fact that this player also has pretty much every DVD feature you need, makes it an excellent buy. Don't be fooled by it's low price - it is a true bargain.

I was extremely dissapointed in this unit from Panasonic. The unit diplays blacks very poorly (will not pass the Pluge test on Video Essentials), stalls on dual layer disks, and has very poor sound on PCM.
The Toshiba 2108 is a much better player, and includes component outs to be future proof, plus offers a substantially better picture.

Check out the reviews on the Toshiba 2108 in Home Theater, and you'll see why its a better glitch free player.

I really like the picture / sound quality of the A110. Although Sterio Review''s "best products" was, in fact, the A310, I believe the only difference is the A310 has the internal DD decoder. I used to have the Toshiba model mentioned previously, but the Panasonic has a much better picture quality. Perhaps is unit has a problem not consistent with others...
