I bought my A110 abot 3Mos ago. I have read of some people havingproblems with dual layer discs. After watching over 50 movies, the
player has performed perfectly. Sound is great too. Toshiba is a
good alternative, however, I prefer the better access to service
Panasonic has.

This is not high end equipment, I rate it a 3. Great value and performance

Strength:

Good unit for 2 Years
Panasonic Customer Service

Weakness:

Two years later is died...No Disc error message

I put my DVD 110 in the repair-shop (No Disc error message) and then I found this website. I called the Panasonic Customer Service Center and told them there was a problem with this model and gave them this website and how there were other complaints on this model. They replaced my unit with a DVD-RV65U after the repair shop told me it was $180.00 to fix it. I have to say Panasonic stuck to their product on this one.

Strength:

Several months of excellent performance...

Weakness:

...from a machine that becomes a pricey paperweight.

I had the exact same problems with this unit as everyone else. After about one year, the image started to pixellate. Then the sound would drop out. Then the player would refuse to jump to certain chapters. Then it would refuse to play at all. We took it to the authorized service center, and even though it was out of warranty they did not charge for labor. A new "optical pickup" got the machine back in working order for one more year. Last weekend, we went from a little pixellation to "No Disc" in just about 30 minutes. Those of you who say you have not had any problems: Beware! It happens very suddenly and without warning. This time, I called the Customer Service line and was told that a special department has been set up to deal A110 litigants, I mean owners. One day later, I got a call from Panasonic saying that if I take or ship the POS A110 to their service center, they will mail me a new DVD-RV65 at no charge! EVERONE with problems should call Panasonic instead of just giving in, pitching the A110, and buying a good DVD player. I cannot vouch for the quality of the RV65, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Strength:

Play all media type except MP3's

Weakness:

Needs to improve on quality assurance and customer service process.

I don't know why people are giving this player 4 to 5 stars when they have obvious problems with this player. I had to spend $90 on the first service about 10 months ago. This is the infamous NO DISC problem that is previous reported. Now my player is also having the picture freeze and pixelation problem as previously mentioned. I wishes I had thrown this player out the first time. I'm refusing to pay for anymore service with this model. PANASONIC warrantee and their Customer Service sucks !!!! They refuse to take responsiblity for their defective products. I would like to know how many people is having this problem beside all the posting on this website. I think this warrant a Class Action Suite. Any lawyer out there want to take this case on? If Ford/Honda can have recalls on their manufacture defect why does Panasonic refusing to admit their fault.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this DVD player or any Panasonic product for that matters !!!

Pixellate and hang, pixellate and hang.
I called on Monday and got a case number; no request for serial number or mention of DVD-110A team. The rep told me I would be called in 24-48 hours. So on Friday I called back, and was told that my case had been forwarded to the "merchandizing" department and I would be transferred. The rep there explained that merchandizing was the "most technical group in the call center". He gave me the procedure for initializing the unit (mentioned previously in these posts: turn unit on, then hold reverse skip + pause/still + power until it shuts off) and said if that doesn't work to take it to the factory service center. The service center isn't far from my house, and it sounds like some people have had more luck there anyway, so unless a miracle occurs with the re-init I expect to be up there shortly. He also advised me that I shouldn't believe anything I read on the internet about Panasonic products that wasn't on the Panasonic web site. My unit is over two years old (Christmas present, so no receipt, either) so I don't feel they owe me anything, and I was ready to upgrade to a progressive scan player and projection system anyway, so as much as anything this is a test of whether I am ever going to buy Pana equipment again or not.

Strength:

Great Picture and excellent sound DD and DTS mode

Weakness:

Gets warm

I reviewed this player about a year ago. I was having the same problem like everyone on board. ie. Picture freezes and the unit gets hot after about 45min. to an hour playing time. But i have never experience the "no disc" horror. I am counting my blessing. But i have been happy with this unit since i have cured some of its sickness thanks to this website my unit has been working just great! I've had this for 3 years now! I just keep it in an open space when it tends to get hot I have a fan behind the unit and i turn it on and the unit tends to cool down! This is important especially in the hot summer months. I don't use the fan in the winter because this unit plays cool during those months. Every six months or so I open the unit and I would clean and lubricate the railings of the lens and this will help the picture from freezing up! I know when you by a product you shoud'nt have to deal with all this crap! But hey! I don't want to buy another player and if this thing last me 3 more years I will be happy with that! Just remember...This unit was one of the first DVD players on the market. So it can't be to perfect. But I have been happy with it as long as i take care of it. Just remember....Keep the unit cool (put it in an ope space) because heat kills! clean and lubricate the rails and clean your disc everytime you put one in. Especially the rented one.

Strength:

Used to work well

Weakness:

Dies after 14 months

Like everyone else, mine started with pixelation and has recently displayed the no disc error. After reading below, I tried the fix to hit the reverse buttons and power button simultaneously. This works for now, but I have doubts it will last.

My next DVD player certainly won't be a Panasonic.

Strength:

Starts out working great.

Weakness:

Ends up an ugly door stop!

Well, add my name to the list of people that have been ripped off by Panasonic! The bad thing for me is that I didn't originally purchase a warranty plan. After having the thing barely over 90 days it locked up luckily the guy at the Panasonic dealer let me purchase an extended warrenty as if it wasn't broken yet. Got it fixed and used it about a year and it messed up again. Got it fixed, renewed my freaking $75 a year extended warranty. Warranty has now run out and it has broken again. If ANYONE knows of something we can do at this point in time then PLEASE email me at jaypugh@hotmail.com. I'm discusted because I did like the picture when it was working but I don't want to basically rent it for $75 a year by having to keep fixing it. Has anyone else been able to get Panasonic to replace their A110?
