I am reviewing the Ultra digital coax cable. I heard so many good things about these cables that I had to try them along with the S-video cable.

The Ultra brings detail and depth to my DVDs. My highs seems to be controlled...not so bright.

Excellent and friendly customer service. Brad was great. He assisted with affordable shipping to Hawaii...I received cables in 3 business days.

Strength:

This review is for the Ultra version of the 75-ohm Digital Audio cable. Strengths: warmth, musicality, detail; fast and responsive. I also appreciate the sturdy and robust build quality, a hallmark of all Better Cables products.

Weakness:

I have found no weakness with this cable.

I was impressed with my previous purchase from Better Cables ( Ultra Component Video/ 2 meter ) so, after receiving some positive feedback from other Ultra Digital users, I contacted Brad and ordered the Ultra digital. After 2 months of use, I am very satisfied with the performance of this cable. The detail and accuracy were very welcome , as was the overall warmness which this cable delivered -- as Brad stated it would.
My interest in the Ultra Digital was heightened when I upgraded my L,C,R speaker cables (Monster) to Analysis Plus bi-wire (Oval 12's/ Oval 9's). I did the center with a single Oval 9. The Monster Silver Digital was just to harsh and bright for the AP.
Granted, it is all system dependent....... yet when I added the Ultra Digital to my system ,I welcomed the smoother and calmer Ultra cable. Harshness was gone and it simply got "out of the way". As my AP wire continues to break in, the more I believe that the Ultra and the AP are a very good match.
I highly recommend the Ultra Digital cable to all those who are looking for a quality cable-- in both performance and price. I have nothing but praise for Better Cable products and Brad's efforts to provide a superior cable at a very reasonable price point in a market full of over-priced cables.

After hooking this cable up, the HT just came alive. The sound was much clearer, bass was deeper, overall sound quality seemed more natural compared to analog or Monster coax cable connection.

Cable itself is very well made, feels and looks nice, and the price can't be beat. (1m $39.99)

Used with Marantz AV-9000 preamp, Marantz MA-500 amps, Pioneer S-V605 HT speakers, Monster speaker cables

Strength:

Build quality, price, customer service, GREAT SOUND

Weakness:

none so far

I guess you could say that I'm one of those people who believes as long as you pay more than 30 bucks for digital cable and its got a fair amount of sheilding on it...its going to sound the same. This cable proved me wrong...usually i hate being wrong...but this time i'm extatic. This cable is very well built and looks very professional when installed in your rig. However the sound is truly fantastic...I immediatly noticed improved midrange and open high end. I would reccomend this cable to anyone looking to save a couple of bucks on a high end cable. You will get great service and a great cable at very reasonable price.

One has to be impressed not only with the quality of this cable, but the price! To add insult to injury the owner will take back anything that you do not love! The turn around on my order was great and there was no S&H charge to boot! I got rid of all my other cables and went strictly with bettercables.com! If you can find a better cable at this price let me know and I will eat my cable!

Strength:

Great DVD sound, very cool looking cable

Weakness:

None

From what I have heard, if you are using standard cables to hook up your DVD player, you might as well go back to VHS. Well, maybe it's not that bad. I never had the opportunity to try crappy cables (and I can't bring my self to even bother comparing now) with my system all set up for dolby digital sound so I don't have much of a basis. I pretty much went straight to the BetterCables digital coax. The sound quality is very impressive and you won't miss one bit of every explosion or voice. Unfortunately, I don't have a digital coax output on my CD player and don't play CD's on my dvd player. For the CD, I use an optical cable from BetterCables as well.

Highly recommend BetterCables, products, service, and prices are excellent. Paid 49.95 for 2 meter cable, cheaper than monster cable from Best Buy for what I suspect is a better product.

Strong performance out of the box

Huge increase in soundstage, crystal highs, tight lows.
You would have to spend much more before you could get something to out perform this cable. I don't even know
if that is even possible. Best buy in my book.

Strength:

Tight and Powerful Bass, Warmth, Large Soundstage, 6 month trial period

Weakness:

In comparison to Illuminations - lacks a little in transparency and midrange weight

The first thing that I noticed about the Ultra Coax's presentation was a near perfect bass reproduction. Even though I use it in a 2ch music system, I can tell this cable is perfect for low frequency effects, it out-performed the Illuminations on bass tightness and authority. However, I don't care about brain dead action movies. For music, The low-end of Jimmy Smith's B-3 sounded more like a B-2 Bomber with Ultra in place. That's what I care about.

The overall presentation was smooth and relatively neutral. It was less fatiguing and metallic than the Illumination's presentation, but in return, was slightly less tight and transparent. Further, the Ultra's presentation was sligtly lacking in midrange weight. Snares and Tenors didn't quite have the meatiness. But Given the price of the Ultra, it was not a big issue.

The performance of the Ultra was similiar to the $35 MSB Coax, but was more extended and dynamic in the frequency extremes.

All in All, I'm sticking with the Bettercable Ultra. My mid-level digital front end sounds best with a slightly warm Coax like the Ultra, in comparison to an exremely transparent cable like Illuminations. In this world of over priced cables, the Bettercables Ultra Coax. is a deal.

FYI, my system:

Marantz CD(transport)
Panasonic A120U DVD
Link Dac
directly into an Audiosource Amp Three power amp
NHT 1.5
Monster HTS-2000 power conditioner/surge protector
cables: Homemadeaudio Super Silvers, single runs of Kimber 8tc, Bettercables Ultra Coax.

Strength:

Looks cool

Weakness:

Not much different than my Monster Cable.

I borrowed this cable from my brother-inlaw to try on my new DVD player (Denon). I compared it to the (look out now) Monster Cable I bought at Circuit City. After a couple of weeks I have to say I think over all the Monster cable was as good or better. I was not as "scientific" as Rob below. But I did compare both movies and music.

For a very thourough review read Rob's PDF file below. Thanks Rob.

I am still looking for a good cable. The guy I just bough my interconnects from recommends trying the DH Labs digital cable for $15 more.
