Soundstage and Bass response

Weakness:

remote can't turn unit on/off

"The happy medium" in Madison, WI, sells it for $317, shipping costs may be less than Sound City if you are in the upper midwest. They have a web site - happymedium.com.

My sentiments echo exactly the previous reviewer as I also have mini monitors. In my case the inability to turn the power on remotely is a plus - my 3 year old can't reach the actual unit but certainly could figure out how get his hands on the remote and use that :-).

Strength:

Simplicity in style and design

Weakness:

None

I'm a real tight wad when it comes to spending money on something I enjoy so much. I want the most for my money and don't want to pay for the extras I'll never use.
I hit the nail on the head with this little puppy!! I based alot of my decision from magazines and reviews posted here without really listening to the unit. I heard their receivers and the 317, but never the C340. I ordered from Sound City ( $309.00 plus shipping I won't pay MSRP on anything).
Out of the box the unit was simple in style and easy on the eyes. I'm to old to be reading the manuel on how to turn something off that I turned on by mistake.(ie. processors,eq. and the likes)
When the unit was hooked up and fired up I immediately noticed tighter more defined base from my mini monitors. The familiar boomy-bloated bass was gone. Everything sounded more open and spacious. I won't go into all the rest of the superlatives, but if your looking for: quality, value and the most bang for your buck, you won't be dissapointed.
Thanks here to all previous reviewers and to my wife for putting up with the constant research, reading magazines and the "lets go to the stereo store while were out". ENJOY

Strength:

Everything, and I love the design of NAD equipment. Are people buying audio gear for looks or sound anyway?

Weakness:

Nothing

Just one more review to praise the c340. The quality of sound that this little unit produces is awesome. No need to elaborate further, but if you are looking at any other "superstore" brand in this price range or above, make sure you head out and audition the c340. You will not be disappointed.

Strength:

that wonderful NAD sound

Weakness:

Not enough snob appeal for morons like Vlad the Inhaler (below).

This wonderful integrated amp is just about the only option for anyone on a basement budget who craves tube-like warmth without sacrificing the precision and reliability of transistors.

Vlad (reviewer below) is Bad. To me, he represents everything evil about audioreview.com. To wit, he writes:

1. "The preout-powerin jumpers are a sound killer right out of the box."

This is utter superstitious nonsense of the tweak-nut variety. The jumpers are less than half an inch long, and perfectly conductive. What exactly does Vlad think high-end designer do *inside* their integrated amps -- weld every circuit directly to the next one?? Let alone the MANY inches of interconnect used to wire separates together! Utterly moronic.

2. "Lets give it a few days to "burn-in" and see what happens..."

If Vlad really believes transistor amps benefit from extensive burn-in, why wouldn't he wait to post his review until he'd done a reasonable burn in? The most likely explanation? He essentially made up his mind before auditioning the amplifier. Classic audio snob behavior.

Strength:

It is a terrific amplifier.

Weakness:

Clueless wonders like reviewer below who posts reviews without a genuine clue.

Hi all, just defending what I think is a great amplifier. I've used it for well over two years, and have a musician's ear. I know good from bad. I also hate to see it when a) somebody posts a review who doesn't even own the damn piece of equipment, and b) someone posts that same garbage review three times. Hey reviewer below -- the entire audio world cannot be wrong, including a bunch of highly paid published critics and over 80 people on this site. This amp rocks! Fuzzy vocals? Your speakers must have been blown by that vacuum! What a crock! Enjoy your car amp, dude.

Weakness:

Sub-par Sonics and Handling

I'm sorry if I go against the grain here, but I must agree with the Elitist "Vlad" (apparently a pseudonym).
A friend lent me his recently acquired 340 and said nothing other than, "listen for a couple weeks and we'll talk then." I had been looking for a 40-60w integrated to power a pair of AR302 3 1/2 ohm
low efficiency speaks used for DVD and hi-fi vcr playback sound. Sometimes this system is used for background music
while i'm vacuuming (with a 105db Eureka canister).
In any event, this unit did not provide anything resembling honest sound reproduction. The voices sounded very dirty and buzzy and the midbass was bloated and loose. Also, the controls felt unacceptably cheap in the hand. I ended up going with a 200W CAR AMP powered by a 10amp DC supply from Radioshack for 99 bucks plus 99.00 for the supply( i know, too small: 115 watts). But, I got my fifty watts stable into one-ohm for under 200 bucks and very clean, dynamic, uneditorialised sound. I feel you would be better off to buy a "classic" receiver from a yard sale or pawn shop before I could recommend this NAD. Ps: Talking latter, my friend was also dissapointed in the NAD to the extent he would not use it in a modest system either. Caveat: This was the review of a sample of ONE. The unit may have one too many critical parts on the bad end of quality control limits, creating a bad sample. Please do your own listining and comparisons! I hear some of these reviews are posted buy dealers to boost sales. I have no agenda other than to help you avoid all the mistakes and lost dollars I've experienced.

Strength:

Looks like Hobbiest gear

Weakness:

Not neutral, adds moderate grainey texture

Fellow 'Files:
My review sample was very grainy even after many days of run-in to get the electrolytics within operating parameters.
The unit possesed heavy texturing to any signal along with excessive midbass and lack of ability to resolve and present small shifts in amplitude (sometimes referred to as microdynamics). I can only assume the power supply was faulty in some way, I could not imagine a company would market a design that performed this way, intentionally. I await another sample, if my friend is so inclined ... some people dont like their stuff put under scrutiney, especially if its below par. (The defending reviewer below does not form a credible argument, and only hurles insults.
Therefore they have NO credibility until they learn to put their thoughts into a concise argument with some experience and logic tied to it. Maybe she/he represents the distributer.) Bcak to the review. The unit is somewhat largish for its output and may not fit into a cramped cabinet. The potentiometers and switches do not have a nice damped greasy feel, they feel like a $15 clock radio. This is not acceptible at this price point. Lastly, NAD should give up on the soft clipping feature, it degrades the sound noticibly when engaged - unless they only market to headbangers that clip their amps constantly. I would pass on this one, unless you can trial it for a few days prior to purchasing. Good sound speaks for itself and is easy to recognise. Good luck, and remember this hobby can be fun if you dont let the grouches get you down!

Recently purchased this amplifer. The sound is "as good as it gets". Nice layout on the amplifier, with many smart functions as: Tone Defeat, Impedance Sensing Circuitry, Remote Control, Soft Clipping.
