After waiting weeks for the C340 to ship, I'm gald I didn't rush out and buy another amp. This thing sounds great and seems much louder that 50wpc. I assume this is due the the new impedience sensing circuitry in this amp. It has a clean layout, 7 inputs, pre-out/pwr-in, and good construction. In the typical NAD tradition they left out the bells and whistles and just construsted a simple great sounding integrated amp.

Picked up a NAD C340 for my bedroom system last week. I didn't expect this level of performance for $350! Bass is deep and treble is extended without the grain and grit typical in this price range. A fantastic deal!

Once again it goes to show it is not the watt rating but thedynamic headroom that makes one amplifier sound better then another.
Very clean,(tone defeat activated), tones, great stereo imaging,
and clean tight base. Don't be scared to turn up the volume, the
NAD C340 will handle the pressure. The NAD C340 is a very serious
Hi-Fi amplifier! I paid $380.00, including tax!!!! I'm still shaking
my head!! Best, Lance

I find the NAD C340 produces beautiful sounds from Magneplanar MMGsas long as the music is not too complex and the recording is not too
aggressively bright. Most folk, rock, jazz and classical sounds great,
especially with small numbers of instruments and voices. Bright pop
recordings can be fixed using the tone controls (yes, I'm a believer
in tone controls). When I tried turning up the volume to get a better
sense of detail on a Beethoven symphony, I discovered what clipping
sounds like. These problems have more to do with the speakers than
the amp. Although I'll upgrade to a muscle amp, the C340 sounds
so good on almost all music I can live with it for a while.

After being backordered for three weeks, I finally received my C340. I purchased it from www.soundcity.com for $320 shipped. I upgraded from a Denon PMA-860 integrated amp, which produced very clean sound, but tended to be a bit thin in the bass frequency. The most noticeable difference from the Denon is the quality of bass. The C340 produces punchy, detailed bass while remaining under control. The midrange is much more defined also. I can now hear the subtle details hidden in many of my CDs. Combined with also British-made Tannoy M2 speakers, you get the well-known laid back British sound that you could listen to for hours and hours without getting tired. I love the way string instruments and piano sound with this system. One thing bothered me though. The remote control does have a power button, but you can't turn the unit on/off with it. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having a remote? It does allow you to control volume and choose the source. It'll also control other NAD components you may have.
For: Very good bass reproduction, detailed mid, can't buy better at this price.
Against: Can't power the unit on/off with the remote, no switched electrical outlets for other components.

I'm sure there are many amps better than the C340, but at a substantial increase in price. If you believe in "Simple is Best", this amp is for you.

I just purchased my NAD C340 Amplifier and I am plenty pleased with the simplicity of the product yet the clear sound produced from it through my Phase Technology Teatro 7.5 speakers. With no sub-woofer, the bass is plenty and the mids are more audible than ever and the highs are clear yet soft. I agree with one reviewer who said the down side is the inability to power off by remote. But this is a small price to pay for such and efficient amp at $399. I say hats off to NAD for sticking to their guns. I sold them 10 years ago and the appearance has not changed... Reminds me of another little gem called MacIntosh.
Great for jazz enthusiasts!!!

Strength:

Great system for the price, best in the price range of $300-700

Weakness:

HF lacks li'l bit of brightness, but not a whole lot

I found it well pleasing with B&W Matrix 1 (yeah, still have these things)
NAD C540 (the new 24bit dual d/a), and Kimber Kable PBJ interconnects and speaker cable.....

combination of these really gave a great sounds..it's an overkill in my small bedroom system....but hey i like it that way....

simplicity is best and price matches more than performance....

This is the best amp available at this price point. For most listeners (at least those looking in this price range) it has power to spare. The sound is amazingly life-like--warm and detailed. The highs don't produce fatigue and the lows are powerful and controlled. You can't do any better for this price (or for hundreds more).
