Strength:

Clean, powerful, full range sound at all listening levels. It does whatever you would expect a high quality amplifier to do with all types of signals fed into it. And it does it flawlessly.

Weakness:

Only that it draws 400 watts of power. This may scare off some who are conscious of electrical consumption, these days. However, most units of this type are high juice users.

This unit which I am using with its sister TAE9000ES, puts out sound which I consider to be awesome. I have a pair of BOSE 901 Series VI, for left and right front, a Cambridge Soundworks Centerstage for the center, a pair of CS Surround 5.1 speakers for the rear, and a HSU VTF2 powered sub. I have listened to a lot of stuff from a lot of brands(whose names I won`t bother to list here, but you know who they are)and at any price, and have heard no better.
I am amused by some of the reviews I have read on this page, about this unit, wherein hum is heard, or buzzes, or lack of power, etc. May I suggest that you have your connections checked out, then your associated equipment, and finally, your hearing, if you still hear hum or buzzes etc, from this unit assuming your amp is not somehow defective.

Have been a long term Sony high-end power amp devotee. They have always been great performers.

I must say, this 5-ch amp, when mated with its pre (TA-E9000ES) is incredible. I was using a Carver before this, but the N9000es is 'tuned' much better, supports all impedance ranges for speakers, can be used in 2, 3, 4, or 5-channel modes, has adequate o/p (115x5 or 200x2), sony s-link, and delivers very clean sound. My carver was a 5-ch amp too, but sounded a little when put in 5-ch mode.

I purchased this Amp with my TA-E900ES. It is perfectly matched with my TA-E9000ES and puts out crystal clear, all the way up to the max of the TA-E9000ES volume control sound on both CD and DVD output.
Great piece, easy to use. Debating getting a second one to run front/center off one and rear off another one.

I just came accross with a review on this unit against top US brands including Krell, Proceed and McIntoch. To me the best review is a consumer's view. Hence, I agree with the expriences expressed personally for this unit. I have a Sony amp model TA-N330ES which I think a predecessor of this new model. Honestly, I like how it sound. Soft, deep bass, and clear at par if not better than the amercian systems just mentioned. Considering performance and value, I'll channel my fund for this unit instead of the known one I've choosen before.

a Casual Listener

I'm just a casual listener and a big fan of Sony products. Recently I was thinking about investing in home theater, especially the TA-N9000ES and went to a store nearby my house to check it out. While I was at store, I overheard some customers saying that the picture and the sound has a little bit of time lag when watching a movie, so the movie looks like it was doved. Is this true? I've read so many good reviews about this model that I would love to get it, but I'm a little concerned.

John B.may have heard people talking about the "lip-synch" problem on the Sony 550D DVD player, which I have experienced once in the 30 plus movies I've watched.

This amp is a giant killer! I have 2 N9000ES to do HT at 200W. Orginally I bought the Sony amp only to drive my 2 passive Snell 12" subwoofers, because I already have the Sunfire Cinema Grand 200Wx5. However, after extensive comparison of the Sony to the Sunfire in my home, I found that the Sony in the 115W x 5 mode comes close to the Sunfire. But, in the 200W stereo mode, the Sony just blew the Cinema Grand away! The music is so clear and powerful. I can feel the vibrations of the music, and I feel as if the band or the orchestra (depend on type of music) is playing in the room in front of me! I never felt this with the CG. And the bass from the Sony is louder, tighter, and much quicker thanthat of the CG. I was so surprised since the CG is rated 200Wx5, and to make sure, I took out the Radio Shack meter and measured the sound level of both amps at the same volume setting. Check this out, the Sony at 200W is putting out almost 10db more than than the CG! And, at 115Wx5, the Sony's sound level is about the same as that of the CG at 200Wx5! So, I sold the CG and got another N9000ES! Just to think that I thought the Sunfire was s a keeper for me. And I'm very happy with the decision. If you are considering getting the CG or if you already have one, do the comparison like I did and find out for yourself. You can get 2 N9000ES for around $1800, much less than the cost of 1 CG, and for twice the REAL power!!!!

one word fantastic. from the moment i installed the n9000es and the e9000es together with the dvd 7700 i knew this was the system i always dreamed about. my cds played on the 7700 have me hearing things in my music i never heard before. i haven't heard any humm at any range. when playing my dvd movies in dts mode it was like nothing i ever heard before. this is truly a great piece for the money. i'm not rich hi end for less money to fit my buget. p.s sony is honoring the warranty even though i puchased my pieces from an unaurthorized dealer. they replaced my remote right away my amp went out and they replaced it with a new one, and they did the upgrade with no questions or problems at all. hats off to the sony service center in beltsville
