Strength:

TA-N9000ES is a decent amp but truly an underperformer for the audiophile.

Weakness:

low power in five-channel. poor theatre presentation. lacking in precision at the low ends.

A year ago I went and bought The Sony TA-N900ES on the strength of many recommendations and strong word of mouth buzz. I always wondered about those dedicated home theatre models. How accurately can they take you to the theatre presence and give you the ump, bang and woof for the buck. I was disappointed in the TA-N900ES. I ran through my 400 plus movies and configured every silly tech trick allowed but did not get the feel of a rumble and the blood curling churl that sinks you back in your chair. I wanted the ringside sweet spot that the marriage of a TA-N9000ES and the TAE9000ES did not and could not deliver. At a summer barbecue I my neighbor’s system. He had three Harman Kardon Signature 1.5 two-channel amps chained and The Star Wars Trilogy ran on for the kids. The movie sound rocked and synchronized perfectly. The highs were high and lows were crystal clear and I was a Jedi Knight. I felt that I was in Audiophile heaven. The next weekend I bought the three amps from J&R in NY for $499 each, took them back to Jersey and now I am The Party. Every comment about my system begins with the jaw dropping comment WoW. Please, please, please do it again. These Amps usually retail for $1400/each but J&R had a sale. There has not been a day since that I have not sat back, admired, and enjoyed the sounds of the 150 pounds of pure amplifying six-channel muscle chained to my TAE9000ES. It is alive, precise, addictive, and the best damn musical investment that I have ever made.

Strength:

Fast Dynamics! Awesome Simplicity and Push Pull circuitry!

Weakness:

Nothing at all!

Just too good to be true at this price, it cant be beaten! Quick, natural and open sounding amp! Beats my Meridian amp for openness and value! Surely the best amp under US$5000.

Strength:

Extra Left/Right channel inputs is sweet and warm, strong bass (Running Infinity RS-IIIbs) clear highs and very balanced midrange

Weakness:

The normal a/v inputs lack the cleanness and warmth of the "extra inputs" Power supply runs out of juice in 5 channel mode.

The TA-N9000ES has warmth, strong bass and overall is very well balanced as a 2-channel amp. The Infinity speakers I have are 4-ohms and demand alot from this amp. In two channel extra input running non-bridged it has plenty of power to rattle the house. I have run the amp in five channel a/v mode using the other inputs (TA-E2000ESD preamp) and lost are the power in the bass, clarity in the mids and highs even at more normal listening levels. Normally, I feed the signal to the extra inputs from a SONY STR-GA8ES in power swap mode. I found this to sound better than the E2000ESD in overall warmth and clarity. If anyone is going to use this amp (TA-N9000ES) for surround sound buy two, one for the mains and one for the other channels. It may not like having 4-ohm and 8-ohms speakers hooked up together and that is causing the reduction in sound quality in it's a/v mode. Can anybody answer why?

Strength:

Warmth, bass, clarity and awesome detail!

Weakness:

It makes the US$5000 Krell a rip off!

Okay guys to sum this up, Krell sounds more musical in some respects and does have more power than the Sony. I am currently running the Sony in BTL mode and has since purchased 4 amps all running BTL for less than Krell dollars. With this setup, I must say that it beats the Krell both in home theater and 5 channel music. Sony pumps out 200w RMSx2 in BTL mode. Clean, clear and detailed sound! I recommend it to anyone.

Best value for the cost. Yeah there are some amps that are better, but also cost 4+ thousand more. Perfect for home theater and Stereo listening. Great bass, highs, and mids.

I got this amp a week ago together with E9000ES. Yesterday a had a chance to compare it to ARCAM Alpha 10. Regretably the ARCAM was much better - more and faster bass, cleaner middle and more musicial sound at all. Maybe N9000ES is great in home cinema, but in stereo it looses the compettion.

I purchased this amp about 3 months ago, approxiametly 4 weeks after I acquired a TA-E9000ES preamp (a stunning piece, which others will attest to). After the preamp purchase, I checked out several amps to hook up with my new AV anchor (ATI,Bryston,Classe,Marantz etc.,all excellent). However, I was so impressed with the preamp unit that I took a chance on the matching amp. Absolutely KILLER. For home theater it has instantaneous brutal power. Also, for music it is clean, refined, and no hum whatsoever (besides being under $1K). This amp plus its matching preamp are the new standard to beat for a seperates package under $4K.
