I just had a chance to listen to this amp, and personally I feel it is highly overated. This maybe a great HT amp but for stereo listening it does not meet the grade. This amp did not sound any better than my Carver HR-875 integrated amp. In fact the Carver had better imaging. If all you listen to is in your face Rock and Roll and want a good HT amp this maybe for you, but if you ever listen to the occasional Jazz CD or female vocalist than I would look else where . Some of the other amps that I think are more musical are the Adcom GFA-7500, B&K AV5000 series II, and the Rotel RB-985mkII. All of these are in the same price range to and will perfom more than adequately in HT.

I started out using the adcom 5500 and 5802 before trying this sony amp. I found the adcoms to be harsh, but powerful. When I auditioned the the sony amp, I tried running it at 115 watts per channel, and found it to be lacking in power (I run Martin Logan Aerious speakers with a definitive technologies sub woofer). I then tried the sony amp in BTL mode at 200 watts. To me it was just as powerful as the adcoms and much smoother. I was so pleased that I ended up purchasing another sony amp. I use one of the amps to run in BTL mode (200 watts) for stereo use. When I want home threater and I use the other amp in BTL+1 mode to run the two rear and center channels. You can have the best of both world (HT and Stereo) with these amps!

EMPLOYED @ SONY (ENTERTAINMENT), PRODUCTS CAN BE HAD @ COST AND SOMETIMES LESS(B-PRICE). ALWAYS HAD SONY PRODUCTS.
MANY REVIEWS I'VE READ MENTION HUMMING ON HIGHER-END MORE EXPENSIVE AMPS.I REALLY CAN'T COMPARE THIS AMP WITH ANY OTHERS, ONLY THE ONES I SEE AND HEAR AT "THE GOOD GUYS". THE ONLY HUMMING I HEAR IS THE NEIGHBORS GIRLFRIEND LATE A NIGHT AND OCCASIONALLY MINE. ANYWAY, IF YOU'RE LOOKING TO BUY A HOME THEATER SYSTEM,I STRONGLY RECOMMEND SONY TAN9000ES AND TAE9000ES MATCHED UP WITH THE DVP-S7700. THE PERFECT THREESOME! OH, BY THE WAY, WHAT IS THIS LIP SYNC GLITCH I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT. IS THAT LIKE THOSE OLD BRUCE LEE FILMS? "THE MATRIX" GAVE ME NO PROBLEMS NOR DID "CRUEL INTENTIONS". I MUST AGREE WITH EVERYONE 'BOUT THE STINKIN' REMOTE ON THE TAE, WHAT A WASTE. IF THERE WAS A WAY TO TURN IT UP W/OUT THE REMOTE, I WOULD THROW ON TO THE 101 EASTBOUND. IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN E-MAIL WITH EASY INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO ADJUST THE EQ ON MY TAE (22 STEP PROCEDURE, ETC. ETC.),I WOULD APPRECIATE IT THANX!

I have used this amplifier for almost 6 months. Using bridge 2 channels to drive my celestion A2. Couple to TAE-9000es and DVP S7700. I mainly used in stereo mode for listening classical music and 3 channels for home theater. I found that this amplifier performs very well at 200w per channel, it drives my A2 with crisp, clear smoothness without edginess. The only thing lack is bass in this amplifier. However, when listen to music with lots of bass, I generally switch to 5.1 mode, 3 front channels driven by TAN-9000es, rear channels by holfi audis signature and B&W ASW3000 subwoofer. I never go above -35 db on my TAE-9000es when watching movie at 5.1 mode, felt that it will rock my house down. For the price I pay, this amp delivers what I want at bridge 2 channels for less that A$1500 and it matches to some expensive brand. It is fairly lay back at 5 channels, generally not recommended to drive speaker with low sensitivity.

I owned this amp for almost a month with a new Sony Preamp TAE9000es. Before I owned Threshold, Audio Reseach, and Classe amps (far more expensive than Sony), none of those amps has lower distortion and hiss than sony. It's so quiet, powerful, and the best built-amp for the money. Without doubt, this is the best multi channel amp for the money ever.

I did a blindfold test of this amp, a Krell, Proceed, and Machintosh. Tho only amp that stood out was the Machintosh. It sounded horrible. TO my ears, this amp sounded just as rich, and deep in bass tone as it's much more expensive competition. I purchased the amp, and pre/amp combo, along with a Pioneer Elite DV-09. This is an awsome setup. picture and sound quality are great. I am using Paradigm mini monitors for front and rear, Energy 10' Sub, and Energy Center channel. Sounds great. This amp is outstanding, especially for the bucks.
