I purchased a demo 992 for $450 ($500 including a 5 year warranty). This Dobly Digital receiver is replacing an old Pioneer Pro-Logic system. |

I have the RX-V992 and really enjoy it. It has everything you need except DTS decoding. As I understand there are not many DTS DVD's out there and it will take a very long time for it to be a standard. But DD will always be there. My favorite DSP effect is the "70mm Movie Theater". It really kicks. |

Very nice, except they forgot 5.1 channel input. For a receiver with so much (bells & whistles) how did they forget the most critical input for an A/V receiver. Other than that it's an excellent piece of equipment. I would give it a better rating, but when I e-mailed Yamaha and asked if there was any way to upgrade for DTS, they said buy a RXV-995 or 795. |

This is a great HT receiver, clean crisp sound, great digital and prologic performances. got plenty of inputs and outputs, + s-vhs. Just love this units, the remote is great but very ugly. Very good units for the price. |

I bought his product about a year ago and still i have not found anything to fault about. Features are awesome, performance is outstanding for the money, plenty of power and AC-3 is breath taking! |

Strength:
Excellant processing ability
Weakness:
Bright sound I love the versatality of this unit however, I do have a problem with hissing noise. If I set an input to cd/dvd, tuner, tv, etc and turn the volume up approaching the halfway point, without any other equipment being turned on, I can hear a hiss in the speakers. When I select cd/dvd, I can actually hear whatever radio station the tuner is set to, coming from the speakers. I am bringing the unit in for servicing but was wondering if anybody else had encountered this problem. i have the unit matched with M&K LCR75's and MX105 Sub. On movies, the system is unbeatable for shear presence however on music I find it too bright. I would give the unit 5 stars but am taking off 1 star for the hiss problem and 1 star for brightness. |

Strength:
Versatile HT Receiver. Lot's of inputs.
Weakness:
No DTS or 5.1 Channel Input Great receiver. Terrific sound for both stereo and Dolby Digital. Simple front pannel layout. Sound Fields are there if you are into them. I wish I had waited for the 995 or the 2095, though. But then again. I enjoyed it for almost two years before they came out. Still don't feel the need to shell out the bucks for the upgrade yet. |

Strength:
Variety of sound fields, cost, remote
Weakness:
no DTS, could use a little more power (like 995) Excellent component. . . have 7 speakers connected and can handle 3 more. Beautiful sound. Remote is awesome for controlling all my components (once I figured out how to use it). Replaced my old Pioneer and WOW! Recommend to all. |

Strength:
Yamaha quality
Weakness:
Remote. Yamaha really needs to work on this end. Replaced a 5+ year old Pioneer VSX-901 with this to get Dolby Digital decoding for DVD/DBS. Not nearly as fully featured as the Pioneer. Lacks ability to select audio and video sources separately, wireless remote multiroom source changing and many of the Pioneer's other features that I never, ever used (eg video enhancement). Pioneer's remote much, much better. All that said, sound is absolutely fantastic. It's able to drive the lows into the subwolfers of my Definitive Technology speakers via rca cable. Does auto switching between composite video and svideo. Saves and recalls sound field settings by source. All in all got a terrific bargain on this at a local reseller. With the 995 only adding DTS processing, which I believe should go the way of Divx, it was a steal. |
