While the amplifier section is lacking in watts available,(80 watts x 5), it should be fine for most applications. |

I traded up to this badboy after months of agony. I was not sure which receiver to choose. I had a Denon Int Amp from about 8 years ago with on DPL. It still sounded great but I was missing out. I almost bought the AVR-2700(Denon) but a little out of my price range of 1200CAD and for what you got I was not convinced of the price. I also thought about the Sony 30ES but not enough good things said in any of the postings to outweigh the bad. I then thought about the Yamaha V795 or V793. So...I went to the store today and saw this one marked up at 899CAD. I managed to buy, I mean steal it at 650CAD or 400USD plus tax including the trade. I have a Sony S3000 DVD player I hooked into it and in one word WOW! The thing was amazing!!! My only compaint it the remote looks kind of dorky however very smart and actually useful. I programed in all of my other components without any problems and the manual was very helpful on several occasions, just as a refresher. The DSP modes are quite fun too!I could go on and on but this is a really great piece and do yourself a favour a pick up one. Thumbs Up! |

When I came across the reviews on the Carver Cinema System 5.2 speakers and saw they were discounted to $699 I ordered them that day. I didn't have a receiver to drive them, and read the reviews below which convinced me to buy the RX-V992. Am I glad I did! |

I would have to agree Bruce, Great Price and maybe, just maybe when DTS comes into play then you move up. I'm not too keen on buying the same movies again just to hear them in another format. |

After owning the 793 for 3 months, I was hooked on Yamaha. Getting to know my salesmen well, he brought to my attention that the 992 was clearing out for the new 995's. I talked to the Yamaha rep for western canada, asking what would be the difference in the two(793-992).I was told the larger current supply(amp) would perform better than the 793's, for base responce, just by the increased damping facter. So I brought the 992 home, and noticed the difference, a much cleaner base. The extra s-video connections are handy, as well as the extra 6 or 7 lbs in sure wieght, the difference I paid,$199, was well worth it! Looking forward to upgrading to the 995 sometime or 2095 would be excellent, any thoughts? |

I purchased a demo 992 for $450 ($500 including a 5 year warranty). This Dobly Digital receiver is replacing an old Pioneer Pro-Logic system. |

I have the RX-V992 and really enjoy it. It has everything you need except DTS decoding. As I understand there are not many DTS DVD's out there and it will take a very long time for it to be a standard. But DD will always be there. My favorite DSP effect is the "70mm Movie Theater". It really kicks. |

Very nice, except they forgot 5.1 channel input. For a receiver with so much (bells & whistles) how did they forget the most critical input for an A/V receiver. Other than that it's an excellent piece of equipment. I would give it a better rating, but when I e-mailed Yamaha and asked if there was any way to upgrade for DTS, they said buy a RXV-995 or 795. |
