Strength:

Excellent DSP modes. OSD setup. Strong/clean amp section.

Weakness:

Could use a little work on remote design.

I've listened to a lot of receivers and I don't see many that can compete with the 2095. It has a solid amp section with the best damping ratio in its class. I looked at the Sony TA-E9000ES, Onkyo TX-DS777 & Pioneer Elite and overall, the Yamaha has them beat.

I have heard the 2095 and think that it is a great receiver. I am getting it more for home theatre as compared to music listening. I compared it against the Denon 3600dts and liked it better. I wanted to know two things: (1) did anyone else compare the two receivers and if so what were your feelings; (2) where is the best and/or cheapest place to buy it?

I have owned the RX-V2095 for about two weeks now and couldn't be more satisfied. I find the sound quality to be excellent, on par with anything in it's price category. I had mainly compared this unit to the Denon's (3600 and 5600) and found the Yamaha to sound as good as they did while being a much, much better value. Stereo through my Definitive DR7 towers is awesome - I just wish Definitve still made these speakers so I could buy another pair for my HT setup. I had auditioned the 2095 on some PSB silver's, and found it to be a bit bright and even a little harsh at higher levels. This is not the case at all on my DR7's. I got my unit a local Yamaha dealer for $1300. I would certainly recommend that any potential buyers go to their local shops first - this price is nealy as good as you can get mail order - plus I have the confidence of a full manufacturers warranty. Tuner performance is excellent, and I found this unit to be quite good looking as well - the minimalist approach to the front bezel is the way to go.
The remote, while quite capable and sophisticated, is just not laid out very well. I think it would have been better to forget about the door and just use a slider switch for function shifting (but not like the cheeseball slider on the side). It's a real PITA if you're using it to control your TV since you need to open the door and fiddle with the side slider for direct-accessing a channel. All in all though, I give this unit a solid five stars, and highly recommend anyone looking for a $1000 - $1500 receiver give this unit a good look/listen.

To everyone,
The time is near in releasing the information on the Yamaha RX-V2095
best price. I am in the process of purchasing mine. In the past week I
currently received over 162 Emails on the subject of the $1195 price tag
inc. S/H with factory 2 yr warranty. The wait is almost over. My unit will
take two weeks to get because of the popularity and backorders from Yamaha direct. My work roommate saw it was such a great deal he purchased one too.

This supplier is friendly and is willing to work with his customers.

I have listened to both the RX-V995 and the 2095 receivers. Both sounded near equal from video sound signal information, CD/FM music better on the 2095, both have the same DSP YSS918 chip. I compared both receivers in a quite mode with no signal input. Next I turned the volume up to half way. In the Demo room I was in the center in a 7 speaker array. The RX-V995 receivers hiss or amp noise was approaching to be loud. Under the same test conditions for the RX-V2095 I had to go to each speaker and put my ear into the speaker enclosure to hear any hiss. From this I concluded the amp was by and far superior to the 995 receiver. Signal to noise ratio was 96 for the RX-V2095, S/N 89 for the RX-V995. Amps are not the same, you truly do get what you pay for. The FM Tuner performace was the same for both.

Do yourself a favor if you are interested in buying either receiver.
For $300 more go with the 2095 it has 7 ch of discrete amps. It is the same as the DSP-A1 including a tuner. The 7 ch setup is much more detail in sound than the 5 ch setup.

I will broadcast again soon. Keep looking.

Thanks,

The Yamaha RX-V2095 is the best receiver around!
I doubt that its uses same amps as DSP-A1. The DSP-A1
is much heavier which leads me to believe that it has
bigger power supply. It translates into more power/current
when needed.

I earlier compared DSP-A1 and 2095, and concluded that 2095 is a better
value( thanks to Mr R. Fawcette for valuable information) . However,
after carefully going over their specs, I find that DSP-A1
has clearly better DACs.
RX-V2095: 2-ch 64fs 20-bit A/D and 8-ch 8fs 20-Bit D/A
DSP-A1: 2-ch 128fs 24-bit A/D and 8-ch 8fs 24-Bit D/A

Also, with DVD audio spec. just out that specifies 24-bit DACS, the
DSP-A1 is better suited for DVD audio.

I am in the market for a receiver. I've listen to the Yamaha RX-V2095 and was very please with its sound and built quality.
Now, I’m looking at buying the Yamaha Rx-V995 or Yamaha RX-V2095 or the latest Denon that are comparable in price with the Yamaha. If you could please share your ideas and opinions on the above it would be truly appreciated. Also recommendation of a mail order company would help.

I posted a review about three months ago when I had just purchased the 2095 and stated that that I was very pleased with it but my speakers were too small to handle the sound and power output of the 2095. Well four months later I have gotten bigger speakers (Paradigm Reference Studio 60's for mains and Paradigm Reference CC-450 center) and am now running 7 speakers for the full DSP effect. Wow! It is truly amazing the differnce that 7 speakers make over 5. I no longer listen to music in just plain stereo 2 speaker mode but rather in 7 speaker surround. My preferred DSP modes for music are the Roxy Theater for rock music and the Disco DSP for any music with a good bass note. I have also begun to appreciate movies with 7 channel sound and am using the Digital Enhanced DSP and the Digital Adventure DSP modes more than just plain Dolby Digital. I have viewed some DTS movies but the difference between DTS and Dolby is minimal(if any differnce at all but I don't want to get into that whole DTS vs. Dolby debate). Anyways, I am still very happy with the 2095 after living with it for a few months and am getting very much musical and movie enjoyment out of it. Oh, and if you want to check out an excellent movie, give Ronin a look. The car chase scenes are some of the best ever filmed and the sound and picture quality are indeed reference quality. And it has a very involving story to boot!! Trust me, you can't go wrong with this movie and it sounds awesome on the 2095. 5 stars for the 2095 and Ronin too.

Am kinda audio novice....but looking to build a hometheater system....Other day, I had the opportunity to listen to 2095 in a nearby store here. Its just awesome (ofcourse the acoustics of a closed room does help but its just plain awesome).....the store quoted a price of $1550 but I keep reading here in postings that people bot it for 1150-1250 ....any pointers greatly appreciated.....

Also, am looking for small speakers....any suggestions which ones are good ? like BAs or polk audio or bose....budget around 1000 - 1100 for all the speakers (5 or 7)....any pointers greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

Initially I settled on RXV995 but decided to audition the 2095 anyway despite the dealer's warning that I might be persuaded to stretch my budget. He was ABSOLUTELY right! After listening to the 7-channel DSP mode on RXV2095, I was hooked! The front soundstage created was awesome. I had to cough out more $$$ for it but hell, it's worth it!
