Excellent receiver! I'd like to hear from anyone who has added on a THX-EX decoder. |

Strength:
Excellent sound fields, excellent decoding
Weakness:
Remote control is very weak Although the remote is very poor (gotta hate the flimsy door), the RX-V2095 is a top-notch receiver. The sound fields are very effective; you can definitely notice the improvement for the various settings. Auto detection of the input signal (digital vs. analog) is a big plus. You can't go wrong with this receiver. |

Strength:
The remote is awesome, but potentially confusing. The number keys double as the surround selector, but only when the remote is set to "A " position; when set to B or C, you can use the keys for the components, but only one of the two that are selected. The remote is preset for Yamaha components, and many of those cannot be erased, even if you don't have those components, somewhat limiting the learning capability of the unit. Some of the keys glow in the dark, but not for very long, and a lighted remote would have been nice. The FM reception seems better than on my old Pioneer receiver, but direct access tuning would be nice. The front panel has a very clean look, but at the expense of buttons for the surround modes and the inputs. (The remote, though does have direct inputs for both).
Weakness:
The unit has separate base, treble and balance knobs, a delightful throwback to egonomics, and a bass extension and a tone bypass. You can connect this to a unit in another room to control it, but unlike the 2095, there is no second remote for the seconr room. The remote is the large learning remote that Yamaha uses, capable of supporting 13 macros (multiple functions.) The macro feature is real cool. It has a ton of buttons. What is especially nice is that you don't have to go through a whole slew of submenus to do basic functions. Some of the keys work differently when the hinged door is open or shut, and there are three layers of memory keys. This unit has limited video selectibility. it retains the video from the last av source, even when playing an audio only source; but does not allow you to select the video from one source while playing the audio from another. However, by connecting the av audio to an audio source, one could get around that, if one needed to for dubbing video tapes. Not a major problem. Basically, the nits are mostly getting adjusted to another unit, but overall, it is more flexible and powerful than what I had before (Previously, I had hooked up a 35 watt Yamaha pro logic decoder to my 100 watt Pioneer Dolby surround (pre pro-logic) receiver. The DD is fantastic (I haven't tried out a DTS disc yet) and I really enjoy the receiver Similar Products Used: Yamaha 2095 |

Strength:
I've been very impressed with the 2095 it has had most of the features I was looking for, and then some. Originally I started with the 995 but I felt that it was lacking something. That something was more than made up for in the 2095. The 2 additional speakers fill the environment and make you beg for more.
Weakness:
The second room output is less than it seems. In addition, you cannot use a Yamaha receiver in the second room, and place a repeater in the second room to the first room as all the recievers use the exact same IR codes. This was a big letdown for me when I wanted to setup the second room, and had to go with a pioneer reciever instead of another Yamaha one When buying my receiver(s) I chose a store that would let me bring them back, no questions asked. I literally went through 5 different brands and at least 7 different models (and 2 different stores) before I finally found this beauty. I thought about the DSP-A1, but it was far too expensive for the additional features (which aren't much more than this one). Outstanding amplifier section, and clean sound!!!!!!! 7 channel mode ias awesome, and definitley puts it in top of the world. Dubbing selections, and power envelope make it a dream.
Weakness:
Remote control is very gadgety!!!!! Still labeling stickers, and programming macros features. Totaly Love the unit, Expected no less after having such a great time with my RX1100U. Second remote for zone 2 is dissapointing. Hooked up receiver to Bose acoustimass 10 surrouns sound speakers, and my rugged Cerwin Vega 380SE rockers. This reeiver can still thump the Cerwin's with a true all DDD recording from an audio CD. The on-screen programming and setup was very neat, and easy. Bought mine from Uncle Stereo in N.Y. via UPS. Paid $1065.00 Would definitely buy another piece from them. Similar Products Used: Replaced a fiteen year old Yamaha RX-1100U. Compared Denon, Onkyo, and Sony ES series. |

Strength:
5.1 channel input. Pre amp out. Good build quality.
Weakness:
No tape moniter loop. Plenty of power and flexability for the money. Very good stereo and excelent DD,DTS and DSP performance. The front effect channels can ad a largar soundstage presence on most material. Try the roxy and bottom line modes, they can be a nice change of pace from stereo without sounding artificial. I like the bass management system. I have Definitive Technology speakers and a stand alone sub and set the bass output to both. I can honestly say I have no complaints with this amp. Strength:
The number of DSP programs, S-Video switching, DTS, DD, multi-room operability. The receiver has a neverending list of features that it would take a full week to digest all the info on them. The clarity is amazing even at low volumes. I find my front speakers (B&W 603S2)'opening up' even more. The receiver pumps 100watts/channel. For the price the value is unbeatable.
Weakness:
Remote is a bit cumbersome to learn. I find myself bypassing the remote at times to make changes to settings. No THX certification, very heavy!! The receiver is loaded with so many features that it would take a full week to digest all the info. on them. The clarity is amazing even at low volumes. I find my front speakers (B&W 603S2)'opening up' even more. The receiver pumps 100watts/channel. For the price the value is unbeatable. Great for both music and HT. Strength:
Discrete 5.1 inputs, pre-outs, fancy dsp room simulation
Weakness:
None (don't consider missing rear center/6.1 a weakness). Remote hard to figure out. Very nice sound, though not sure I'm sold on the effects yet. Remote shouldn't be so Yamaha-centric and flimsy. A bargain at under $1000! Similar Products Used: Sony Prologic, Technics Integrated |
