Strength:
Looks, Sound, Features, Price
Weakness:
Heat, Remote,Number of digital inputs Incredible sound and features for the buck. Remote is cheesy, but I don't use the remote enough for it to be a problem. Runs hot, but with plenty of clearance on top and back hasn't been a big problem. |

Strength:
Good sound for the money, Many inputs, enough power for a medium size room.
Weakness:
Very cheap remote design, spring type speaker conectors, this is a good budget unit, easy for set up, better for moves than music. Similar Products Used: Previous:Yamaha DPL RXV-690,Kenwood stereo Receiver |

Strength:
Good power unit for smaller room, good clarity sound, Digital Dolby with optical fibre connection, DTS and AC3, 3 video inputs, 2x Channel Surround settings, Hall etc
Weakness:
Does get a little hot, will have to install an extra fan, the remote control would have to be worst I have ever owned for otions not on the device, can place unit off with remote but not on ??? Go figure I bought this receiver because I could save three hundred dollars and buy a decent sub. I stacked it up against the Sony 845 a good receiver though with indentical features to the Techinics product. Upon hearing the same type of sound produced from both recievers I faulted and went against the Sony. A decision I have not regretted as this amp is awesome when watching a live Rugby game with the spc Live setting on and the db's turned up on the rears. If you like loud clear sound coming from all around you I reccomend you go for this model. I also reccomend the DVD optical link as the system automatically senses the Dolby digital code. This amp is not for the more acoustically tuned kind of person, the Pro Logic Sherwood I still own was good in that respect it just lacked the grunt I wanted for DVD. All in all I am happy with the purchase as it offers everything I want, they could have done with a bit more user friendly stuff on the remote, do yourself a favour, Buy one ! Strength:
power 3 digital inputs price
Weakness:
bass this reciever gets alot of bad remarks i have never had any of these problems i did not know they even over heated it was news to my neighboor who has the 940. my reciever pushes two cerwinvega LS 312's 400 watts each two infinity il 10 interludes and a infinity center. my unit was referbished so if it had a problem it was fixed because i run mine all day sometimes at full blast no problem. i would recommend not putting anything on top of this reciever it takes in its air from the top and blows it out the back and use 14gauge or larger speaker wire . Strength:
Price to performance is excellent
Weakness:
Doesn't support Technics DCC player or older Technincs components I waited until Best Buy had this on sale, and it was worth the wait. The sound is excellent, the interface is great and the unit remembers settings for every individual speaker when you switch between inputs... even the Sony ES series won't switch speakers with the inputs. |

Strength:
Price, DD/DTS decoders
Weakness:
none After buying 36" Toshiba TV and DVD player, Dolby Pro Logic just didn't cut it anymore even though that receiver was only three years old. Shopped around for over two months looking at DD/DTS capable receivers. Most were priced more than I wanted to spend, so I just kept looking and waiting. A local retailer had a big sale and I ended up with this unit for $350 Canadian. Much less than any other brands with DD/DTS. Similar Products Used: Marantz, NAD, JVC |

Strength:
Good clean power, sounds good, looks good, easy for my wife to use, Dolby Digital and DTS... BIG bang for the buck!
Weakness:
Only one optical input, no S-video jacks for video switching, needs better remote. Although this receiver may have its shortcomings, with both Dolby Digital and DTS built in, made it a great value. By using a separate powered subwoofer to handle all the bass, it keeps the unit from running too hot. Having the taste for fine champagne and having only the money for beer, this was a good purchase. Now I have the Ultimate poor guy's home theater. Our friends think we spent a fortune. Combined with my 32 inch TV, DVD player, Cambridge Soundworks speaker system and a self-built subwoofer, I couldn't be more satisfied. More than enough gear for a 1 bedroom apartment. My neighbors are sure to file a complaint any day now. Similar Products Used: Compared to Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer, and Denon. |

Picked up this receiver at Sears for $332. My original plan was to buy the Yamaha 905 which Sears had for $477 that particular day. After auditioning both I decided to give Technics another try. I've owned the SA-GX770 for the past 4 years and my only complaint has been the distortion in the surrounds. Fortunately, that's not the case with the SA-DX930. Clean sound in all channels at high volume. DVD listening is most impressive. Considering the price which includes DTS, I'd have to say this is the best buy for Dolby Digital and DTS out there. As far as overall sound quality, I can't adequately offer comparisons as I wasn't able to audition different units with similar speakers, sources, and settings. All I know is that it sounds very good. |
