I recently purchased the Techics SA-DX930 to replace an old Sony amp/tuner seperates system. I listened to many receivers of various price ranges and found this receiver to be the cleanest sound for the money. I found it had more than adequate power, the channel separation is excellent, and the low end is very clean. I don't have a sub woofer but it would give you the boomy bass if that is the sound you like. The overall sound improvement out of my existing speakers is 10 fold. |

This receiver sounded great but burned out after six weeks. That sucked! |

Strength:
Good layout and sound for price range
Weakness:
Runs extremely hot. Two different units have burned out on me. Absolutely wouldn't recommend it. Each of the units I've had burned out in less than 3 months of regular use. |

Strength:
good layout, looks nice, power, digital & optical inputs
Weakness:
does get hot this receiver does get hot but the fan does an ok job of cooling it down. Ive had mine for about a year and use it continuously and have had no problems with it. I even have an EQ hooked to it and all though it gets warm it has an auto shutdown to keep it from being damaged. Mine is even enclosed in part of home theater system with little air and does great. It has lots of power and sounds good. I recommend this product without hesitation and is a great value. Similar Products Used: jvc, technics |

Strength:
Good Sound
Weakness:
Burns out I would not recommend this product to anyone. It runs extremely hot and I've had 2 units burn out in less than 5 mos. Panasonic/Technics also has lousy support. Try calling them and find out for yourself |

Strength:
High Price/Performance Ratio. Great features. Excellent Owners Manual. DTS capable.
Weakness:
Runs Hot, Crappy remote. This is a tough one to review objectively. First let me say that I am from the school that a high quality audio-only and a HT setup should not be the same system unless you simply don't have the room or the budget. Similar Products Used: Sony, Pioneer |

Strength:
100x5, Dolby Digital, DTS, A number of DSP options.
Weakness:
Runs HOT.. If you get this receiver, you may want to add an extra fan. Lacks a sleep timer and station naming, two features I used on my previous receiver. I bought mine from a local electronics store for an amazing price ($99) so I might be at least a little biased. It came without a power cord or remote as an out of box item. A trip to Radio Shack took care of the power cable, and I'm ordering a remote soon. As everyone else has said, the heat seems to be an issue with this receiver. Setting the volume dial above the 12:00 position seems to kick the fan into high gear. All in all, it seems to be a wonderful receiver and the $349-399 price range isn't too bad. Similar Products Used: I've had a Phillips Surround Sound reciever for quite a while and I love having the 5.1 sound. We also have a Yamaha Pro-Logic receiver. |

Strength:
Price,Clean Power, DTS/DD, Sounds fields are distinct and useful.
Weakness:
No sleep or loudness control. No s-video. Apparent Temperature problems. No 3D stereo mode. No loudness control. This receiver seems to be a solid performer. I haven't had any hiss or popping. The sound fields are distinctly defined and the power output is abundant. This receiver has everything for my component needs and price range. It could be however limiting if I decide to buy extra equipment like a mini disc or a dish. I don't see that in my near future so I purchased this from the Air Force base for $300.00 and no tax. I decided there was no use in spending a good percentage of my disposable income on a receiver that I will probably replace when I get a newer TV. I always buy the unit with every little gadget and then never use them. This time I bought something that will only do what I need it to do, play DTS/DD. I was a little tentative about my decision when I bought this unit and read the reviews until I read the reviews on the other units at the same price range and even more expensive units which have issues with popping and hissing and defective units out of the box. This unit does heat up, but I haven't seen a unit that has a lot of power not heat up. Although I did worry last night when I tested the fan, I turned the unit on and turned it to a source that wasn't playing. I cranked the volume up to full, the fan didn't turn on. Then I left it there to see if the fan was thermally activated. The fan still didn't turn on. I left the receiver on at low volume all night and when I woke up it was still working and sounding great. I am going to call technics about the fan but for now I'm keeping it. For the price you can’t loose. If you trade it for another receiver you will just be trading one problem for another. Similar Products Used: Technics receiver, Technics CD player |

Strength:
I've never heard sonic images sound this good for the price of under $200 with built in DD/DTS-Unbelievable!
Weakness:
Heating problem-quickly fixed by modification involving fuses/diodes. I was impressed to learn that it has TA-KE capacitor technology and built in DD/DTS and I got it for under $200 new. I was very impressed with the sound and have considered others in its class and found this brand and particular model to be superior. I have never been a fan of Technics until this experience and would highly recommend it for those whose just starting to get into home theater system and has limited budget. I am in no way an audiophile but has a brother whose one and I have done my research. Similar Products Used: Sony AV Receiver Dolby Prologic. |
