Strength:

Great hissing sound!! Awesome channel bleed!

Weakness:

None - I love this noise machine!!

This receiver sucks! Try it for yourself and listen to the thing hiss and hum! Thank god for companies like Denon who actually make products that perform as advertised!

Ive had the 575 for over 3 months and am thoroughly happy with it.

Great service from Douglas HiFi, down here in Perth. After various sessions in their rooms, they have let me use an HK AVR65; Marantz 676; Sony DB925; plus an assortment of sub woofers at home. As Steve the man there says, his aim is to make sure I am happy.

Have read the hissteria, and well yes if you turn it right up in DSP mode with nothing playing there is some noise - but all the receivers made some noise (esp HK) in this scenario. The 575 is dead silent in 2 stereo mode (as they all are) including both A & B speakers being driven.

I cannot play this anywhere near max volumes, it is too loud. Five channel is great for that all round music sound; remote was the easiest to use of all. To be honest, on all boxes I find the DSP effects end up being a novelty and I have always ended listening to the sound as it was meant to be played.

For music/home cinema on an affordable budget this is a beauty and with the price considered I give it 5.

Ive got a set of Tannoy Mercury's M2.5, M1 and MC connected which I also think offer value of epic proportions. Something about them inspires a sense of personal attachment.

Ive also got a set of cables through to speakers in another room, which with the multi-CD player, mean I can program it up, listen to the music and let the kids watch TV (without the receiver, sorry kids)

Strength:

Great value for the money: DD, DTS, 5-channel stereo, learning remote, power.

Weakness:

No s-video switching seems to be a problem for some.

When I upgraded from pro-logic I was looking at the Pioneer 608, JVC 888, Technics 930, etc. Yawa Audio suggested this and the Denon 1600(?) as better quality alternatives. I selected the Onkyo for the DTS, and couldn't be happier. I have had no hissing or other quality-control problems at all. I use this with Energy Take 5/e:xl-S8 speakers and the Toshiba 3109 DVD player. My interest is mostly HT, and the Onkyo performs admirably in all respects. For $400 I can't imagine a better mix of features and quality components.

Strength:

Clean, powerful music and HT reproduction

Weakness:

Features, but how much more can you ask for at this price range?

This is an excellent receiver. I did not have any problems with it for the time that I had it. It played music and HT excellent and without any of the reported hisses. For the money, you can't go wrong. Its built like a tank and the remote is also nice, too.

I have auditioned this unit for about months now and I am impressed. As for the hissy people below:

MAKE SURE THE HISS YOU HEAR IS NOT THE WIND PASSING THROUGH THE HOLLOW SPACE BETWEEN YOUR EARS.

Strength:

Easy to use, good looking, great remote control design.

Weakness:

Nasty hiss present when listening at low volume.

This reciever has a terrble hiss when listening at low volumes and when used with headphones. It makes a highly noticeable "shhhhhh" during low volumes and quiet passages. When I first heard the hiss, I immediately went back to the retailer and tested the floor model only to hear the same hiss. I later discovered that the Onkyo 676 has a hum in the center channel and the 777 (the THX model) was recalled due to a sound card defect. So, I purchased a Pioneer Eleite 24 TX (THX certified)for only $250 more than the Onkyo 575 and $250 less than the Onkyo 777. I am highly impressed with the Pioneer and recomend it to anyone who wants great sound.

Strength:

great remote, great sound, easy to use

Weakness:

none so far

I have been using this receiver for about 4 months now and it works great. The only time I hear a hiss is when the volume is cranked up and no music is playing but who cares if thats the only time it happens. The remote is very easy to program and runs my tv, DVD, vcr and cd player. You cant find a better receiver in the $400 range.

Strength:

build quality, clean looks, 5ch. stereo, high current power, ability to change settings on the fly, memorizes settings for convenience, a/b speaker switch.

Weakness:

spring connectors for rear speakers, no pre-out or main-in connections.

i have had this unit for 2 years. i love it. no problems what-so-ever. yes, none of the famous "hissing" problems that were prevalent on early models. i find their is plenty of power to drive my old a/d/s L520's in 2 channel stereo. the sound could be a little warmer. i have the treble knob at 10 o'clock to compensate somewhat. bass response is excellent. dolby digital performance is very robust. for dvd's, i have to use the midnight mode late at night a lot because i live in an apartment. otherwise, my neighbors would hate me. this baby can get pretty loud when playing dvd's. the a/b switch is used to run another set of speakers in the bedroom. can be switched on or off from the remote. very handy. this receiver never gets too hot. must be the large heat sinks onkyo uses, without the need of a noisy fan. my only regret is the unit's limited hook-up options with no pre-out or main-in inputs and no optical out. oh well, what do you expect at this price point? 5 channel stereo is a great function, although i don't use it much. i have polk audio rear speakers for use with dolby digital dvd soundtracks, but they don't blend with my a/d/s speakers for music in 5 channel stereo. the a/d/s speakers are just way better than the polk's for music, so i just go 2 channel when listening to cd's. overall, this unit is great at this price point. i dock it 1 star because 2-channel stereo performance is just a little above average. nice unit!

Strength:

Warm sound, good features. NO HISS.

I've used this receiver to listen to classical, jazz, funk, r&b and rock--the sound produced by this receiver is invariably warm, full, and rich. Especially given the low price, this receiver is a very, very good investment.
