Strength:

Good thumpimg sound. Great remote.

Weakness:

Not enough in/out connections

Beauty, I got in here before that sad individual who keeps posting repeated 1 ratings on the other 575 boards. I wish he was man enough to provide a real email address. Or is he a woman. Must be a lonely individual with a manic obsessive personality. No doubt before long he will make an appearance here. So anyway, I am first after emailing the head honcho of this board with a plea for help. Read this and ignore all one ratings.

This is a repeated posting......
Agree, if you have not taken the unit home, DONT waste our time by posting a review and distorting the review rating. As for HISS must be a US problem.

Our models have SVHS connections so it is great.

Great 5 channel mode.

With very careful listening to classsical CDs not as 'full' sounding as the Luxman which although 10 years old is regarded as 'audiophile' quality and I cannot crank that unit up more than half way without HISS, but at that level it sounds louder than the Onkyo. But who cares when playing dance music at loud levels eg 55-65.

Probably not enough line outs. Could do with multi channel out.

Paid AU$1095, which after conversion from US$ and sales tax and import duties on top is not too bad.

Strength:

Dolby Digital, DTS, Remote.

Weakness:

Some Hiss, Can't Connect an EQ (no tape monitor)

This ia a great receiver for the price. I originaly purchased one from Bestpriceaudiovideo.com but it arrived dead so it went back. I then went to my local PC Richards and i got another one for $350.00??? (i think the salesmen made a mistake)This was the best deal ever, anywhere..

Yes there is some very low hiss, but i think that if you compare this negative to all the positives that this receiver has to offer it's no contest it's a great value.

Strength:

Great Sound and Good Remote

Weakness:

Has a bit of a hiss and not the most powerful think on the block

Well once again like other i say there is a hiss but if you dont turn off the sound source and turn it all the way up then you wont hear the hiss. I say " This is a Reciever and i use it to hear the sounds from my movie/cd. so i will never have it turned all the way up with out sound coming from it so im not to worried about that. 8) It could be a bit more powerful but i have a wife so this is powerful enough for me plus i got crappy speakers. Good remote no little lights on it so i have to turn on the light to mess with (oh well). Thats all

nope, i'm in the us and i don't have hiss in my unit either. bummer that we don't have s-video tho. didn't realize they made one WITH s-video. anyhow, just pray that 1 star moron (jason, george, bill, etc.) doesn't come around here too. i have a sneaking suspicion that he hasn't even tried the receiver or that he has some grudge against onkyo. sheesh.
for those of you who have just started reading these reviews, ignore the 1 star reviews. they're all made by the same person. this is a powerful, quiet receiver with lots of features and a good price tag to boot. and a learning macro remote!! it's not the only choice, but it's a good one. pick it up at www.bestpriceaudiovideo.com for $369 + $17 shipping...

Well Mark, something must've been wrong with your friend's and your setup or by some fluke you did receive faulty receivers. I have heard hiss, and the Onkyo 575 does NOT have hiss at 1 or 2. In . There was even some stupid rumor about Onkyo recalling the receivers which is NOT true. If there is so much hiss why do online hi fi mags all say it's quiet? Sound and Vision Magazine says,
"The TX-DS575 also proved quiet — it was clearly superior to some entry-level Dolby Digital receivers in this regard. "
Hmm...oh, I know, they must be paid off by Onkyo!!! Whatever. You can hate this receiver if you like. I really don't care if you don't buy it. But I'm telling you that I don't have hiss in mine. Maybe *I* received a faulty receiver??? And because of that, this IS a great receiver. Like I was saying, I heard hiss at first too, but then found out why and corrected it. Perhaps you're just not bright enough, or were too lazy to find out WHY it was hissing, although it doesn't exactly take a rocket scientist.

Strength:

Great clean sound. Five channel stereo is great.

Weakness:

Haven't found an yet.

I wanted to wait at least two months before submitting a review. I am extremely happy with the sound quality of this reciever. It has a very clean sound that took me a while to get used to. I kept thinking that something was missing. I found myself playing music at what I thought was a very low level and my wife would come in and tell me the house was shaking. I realized that what I was missing was a lot of background noise that existed on my Sony STR DE805G unit. At high volume levels, it did not sound loud because of the clarity of the signal. This unit was less money than the Sony that it replaced and I am very happy. After two months of use, the only background hiss I have encountered is if I turn up the volume and have the input set to something that I do not have a device connected to. I have also encountered a high hiss level on some of my CD's and have conclded that it is on the CD. Most of my CD's do not have a hiss when the song fades, even at high volume. I have also noted a hiss if I turn on the ampliflier before the input device. It seems that some devices do not ground their inputs before the power is turned on. I think it would be very easy to come to the false conclusion that their is a proplem with this unit. I know that my "speakers" sound much better than they did with my Sony reciever. I have spent more time listening to my CD collection in the last two months than the prior year due to the great sound quality. I didn't think it was possible. Many of the distortions that I blamed on my speakers turned out to be the amplifier. I would give this product a 5 based on the value alone. I am sure their are better amplifiers out there but I am shure none of them are in this price range. I paid $430 for the ampliflier.

People out there be careful of what you buy. I went down the electronics store and i had the chance to try out 2 onkyos. One did produce hiss and the other one didn't. One thing that might happen is that this hiss occurs according to what kind of speakers or other electric devices you have plugged in. Another thing is that the chance to get hiss is more than 50% so would you invest your money on something that takes special care and specific type of speakers and devices plugged in your house? I wouldn't. I'd buy something that i know that i get what i expect from it. Now onkyo can't convince me that a receiver is good and it is a proof of quality if it produces hiss. No way.

Strength:

Great Sound, DTS Re eQ, 3 Digital Outputs S-VHS Outputs, Learning Remote with macros

Weakness:

No on Screen Menu

Well, I think i am lucky to live in continent Europe, because we all get the model with S-VHS outputs. And we get 3 digital connection with one optic. No hiss noticed. The only weakness is no on screen menu, but it is ok with its big dot matrix screen. And evet it is not THX certified, with re eq it performs similar with the THX certified ones. If you live in Europe, its worth to buy. No sorry BUY IT!

Man. If you are that good would you tell me what was your hiss problem and how did you correct it? It is your oppinon to say whatever you want for this receiver you can even say that it is similar to a Ferrari but this is your oppinion. Mine is different and i express it according to my experience which was not that good. If you want to know the truth i've had an onkyo doldy surround receiver before and it was good. Sorry pal you don't have any right to take it personal. It is not about your receiver. It is about mine and you should better think before you write! I did i offend you so as to write such stuff about me? Please be serious and let people express themselves. For you it is a 5 star, for me and some other people it is a 1 star. Accept it and live with it.
