Learning Remote, a clean 5.1-Chl audio and future proof.
Weakness:
No RE-EQ/Frt-effect button on remote. One-hand operation, the 12-numbered buttons s/b placed up-higher on the remote. For the money, the audio quality, a learning remote that's comparable to Marantz RC-2000's remote and other features like 5.1-inputs, RE-EQ, Front-Effect. This can't be beat. Excellent price and performance
Weakness:
Hard to program remote What happened to all those reviews? I don't know what all the hiss is about. I don't hear a thing! I bought one after I read all the negative reviews on it. I used to own a Denon AVR 2000 pro logic receiver. It was about 7 years old. Never a problem with it. Excellent performance. But it was $700 back then. I picked up mine for $310 at CC. It was an open box buy. The gentleman returned it for a 939 I think. The 575 looked like brand new and I couldn't resist. I find it amazing how it out performs my Denon for far less money than I originally spent. I use it with an Infinity ref system. I just purchased a Definitve Tech. 15" sub. It rocks! I also purchased the Onkyo DVD player. Excellent! I would have perfered the 676 with the S-vhs inputs and outputs, but at 310 at CC versus 580 mail order the difference just wasn't justified. My Denon has S-vhs inputs but I never used them. Anyway, I'm pleased with the performance. Similar Products Used: Denon AVR2000 |

Learning Remote, Great Receiver for under $500. DTS Decoding
Weakness:
No S-Video and no on screen display I see a lot of people saying certain Sony, Kenwood, and Pioneer models compare to the 575. There is no way. The discrete circuitry alone makes the 575 much better. It has a crisp sound and the DTS sounds remarkable. I work at Circuit City and after listening to selected HK, Onkyo, Sony, Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, and Technics products there is no comparison. Cheapo rubber knobs Their advertising convinced me to buy this. They are the only company out there that tries to tell you what is inside their product. I admit I really don't know what makes these things work, but at least they show you how its made and why its better and I like that. There has been a lot of talk about te "Humm" issue with this receiver. But why do some have this problem and others don't? This I cannot understand. Looking for a good receiver under $500
Weakness:
On a budget This "hissing" issue reminded me of the problem Audi experienced a few years back regarding "sudden acceleration". Some people would swears that it happened to them, some said they could find a thing. The bottom line - whether real or perceived - Onkyon needs to clarify and nip this issue in the butt, with real answers and solutions, no marketing stuffs. If there is problem, what can current owners do to rectify this issue ? What can Onkyo tells propective buyers ? I hate the prospect of taking a receiver home and then have to turn around and either exchange it or get a refund. It's just a waste of everybody's time (and money). |

Weakness:
lack of needless features Everyone does have their own personal tastes and I just really like this receiver compared to the Sony. It has less features but sounds and feels a lot better than the Sony. This receiver has been rated as the best receiver in the price range by many high end audio magazines. This is compared with the Sony that received Consumer Reports high honor(a respectable source for home audio?) So for me it came down to just feeling at ease. The Sony had more of an amplifier hiss than the Onkyo, but both were minimal. Also the remote is UGLY but GREAT. I now use it for my 15 year old tv because you can make it learn to do anything. My only complaint is that it seems to need a sub to make music have bass.(sony was the same way though) I just prefer a product that has its technology in high end parts and not tons of useless extra features. I had a Yamaha receiver that had 15 different sound fields and I honestly only used about 3 of them. So Onkyo's 8 is fine compared with Sony's 27! Similar Products Used: Sony STR-DE935 |

Strength:
Great sound. Easy to use. Looks great. Built like a tank. Never any "hissing" that everyone seems to be talking about.
Weakness:
No midrange controls I posted a review when I first purchased this receiver, and it is even better now than it was then, due to the addition of a Paradigm PS-1000 subwoofer. I have owned this receiver for almost a year now, and I still have not even had the slightest hints of any grounding problems. Most audiophiles would tell you that Onkyo is a crap company, but it's only because they don't want to admit that they got ripped off with their $5000+ amplifier or receiver. This receiver was a good deal price wise too. If you don't want a receiver with a bunch of fancy useless crap, this is the way to go. It has DSP that actually does what it's supposed to. Not DSP that you find on most receivers that just takes out a little bass or treble to change the sound. This is an awesome receiver and I recommend it to everyone who needs a receiver. It doesn't matter whether it is for music or home theater. Similar Products Used: Marantz. Harman Kardon. |
