Strength:
Great sound, solid build, price
Weakness:
somewhat subdued treble, only one optical input. I tried to find the hiss, a lot of the reviewees were raving about. 2 feet away from the speakers, without anything playing I could hear a faint hiss. But isn't that normal in all systems? Anyway so far I am very much satisfied with my reciever. It blew me away with 'Matrix'. It has a S-vedio connector, I guees it's only avaiable on Asian/European models. Similar Products Used: Kenwood 1077VR, Pioneer |

Strength:
Clarity, Power, Remote, EVERTHING!
Weakness:
A little complicated to set up remote (but once that's done it works great I was pretty skeptical after reading all the reviews of this product (and I did read all 3 threads). after reading the Sound and Vision article and all reviews on the internet, and auditioning it at American and Circuit City, I bought it from onecall for 396 + shipping. I would highly recommend onecall, great to talk to on the phone, great price, fast shipping. on to the receiver- i'm running 4 ohm speakers all around and the 575 has no problem whatsoever handling it. very impressive. I haven't heard any of the hissing or humming problems everyone is talking about. I really like the macro function on the remote. If you are thinking of buying this receiver and are still skeptical give me an e-mail at trtjohnw@uwc.edu and i'll help with any questions you have! |

Strength:
Price, Sound Quality, Build, DTS, 5-channel stereo
Weakness:
No 5-way posts for rear speakers, No Headphone ON/OFF switch (that allows speakers and HP to be used), Realy like the 575, the sound is GREAT, the "HISS" that people claim to be there, is not in mine. The only "noise" or "hiss" is a (non-full) sound that comes out of the rears when playing VCR tapes and TV in Pro-Logic, and I think that it is from my wire, the wire I used was old, gotta get some new! Hook it up with good wire and good power supply and you should be pleased. Similar Products Used: None with Dolby Digital |

Had the Onkyo for 4 weeks. After reading the reviews here I pretty well had a good idea of what I was getting. My expectations were fulfilled. Solid, great sound, DD is FAB. I think the hiss thing is personal. I claim to be a casual listner, and therefore to me there is NO hiss. If I had claimed to be an audiofile with my head in the speakers then, yeah, maybe. But I'm not. One criticism, I don't really care for the DSP's (what the heck is TV logic anyway ?). I cant imagine ever using any - except 5 channel stereo which I use all the time. Great for monday night football. Anyways I'd really recommend this baby to anyone. Another thing - if I had screwed up and bought a piece of s**t I would be on here to admit that too, If any of you think these reviews are skewed. Ta Ta |

SUPER CRISP CLEAN SOUND, GREAT LEARNING REMOTE, DIGITAL VOLUME CONTROL,PRICE,PRICE,PRICE!!!!
Weakness:
NO BACKLIT REMOTE, DISPLAY (VERSUS DS 676), NO S-VIDEO I HAVE BEEN SHOPPING FOR A NEW RECEIVER FOR A LITTLE WHILE NOW AND HAVE AUDITIONED H/K, SONY, YAMAHA, PIONEER, DENON....I WAS LOOKING FOR A RECEIVER IN ABOUT THE $500-600 RANGE THAT COULD GIVE ME EVERYTHING AND DO IT GOOD, IF NOT GREAT. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT THE SONY OUT OF ALL THE RECEIVERS I LISTENED TO (STR-935) HAD PROBABLY THE WORST SOUND QUALITY ALTHOUGH THE REMOTE WAS INTERESTING.....UNTIL I READ THE REVIEWS AT THIS SITE.....BUT WHEN I LISTENED TO THE ONKYO I THOUGHT IT DEFINITELY HAD POSSIBILITIES (MUCH MUCH CLEANER THAN THE SONY!)....EVEN THOUGH IT DIDN'T HAVE THAT COOL GAUDY BLUE LIGHT THE SONY HAS!......WHEN I SAW ALL THE FEATURES THE ONKYO GAVE ME AND THE BUILD QUALITY COMPARED TO THE SONY ...I WAS SOLD! I REALLY FELT THAT WITH THE DENON AND H/K I WOULD HAVE TO SETTLE FOR LESS FEATURES FOR THE MONEY...AND ALTHOUGH I LIKED THE YAMAHA SOUND....IT JUST DIDN'T APPEAL TO ME..ALONG WITH THE PIONEER. I DID NOT BUY THE ONKYO THOUGH EITHER. WHY? BECAUSE AFTER READING THE REVIEWS HERE....I TOO WISHED THAT IT HAD S-VIDEO...ANDI ALSO LIKED THE BACKLIT REMOTE AND DISPLAY BETTER ON THE DS 676.....BUT DIDN'T FEEL THAT IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA $300. LONG STORY SHORT....FINALLY I DECIDED THAT I WANTED THE 575...E-MAILED BESTPRICEAUDIOVIDEO.COM (AFTER ABOUT A WEEK STRAIGHT OF SHOPPING AROUND ON THE NET BEST PRICE I COULD FIND WAS $409 INCLUDING SHIP-DIGITAL HOME CINEMA AT YAHOO BUT WATCH ONLY 7 DAY EXCHANGE ONLY FOR DEFECTS)......FOR THEIR PRICE...THEY JUST E-MAILED ME BACK THAT THE 575 IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE THROUGH THEM...DUE TO GUESS WHAT?....ONKYO IS REPLACING IT IN MID-APRIL WITH A NEW 575X MODEL THAT WILL HAVE S-VIDEO AND A BACKLIT REMOTE...AND THE PRICE IS EXPECTED (BUT NOT GUARANTEED) TO BE ABOUT $379 + $25 UPS FROM BESTPRICEAUDIOVIDEO.COM......NEEDLESS TO SAY....I WILL HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER MONTH OR SO BEFORE I WILL GET THIS AWESOME PIECE OF EQUIP....MEANTIME I WILL JUST HAVE TO SUFFER WITH MY CRAPPY SONY PROLOGIC (415) THAT OVERHEATS AND WATCH THE PROTECT LIGHT COME ON EVERY 30 MINUTES OR SO.......... Strength:
DTS, Lucasfilm Cinema Re-EQ, Learning Remote, 5-channel Stereo, Wonderful Sound (no audible hiss!!)
Weakness:
For those that need it, lacks S-Video inputs, only one optical input, no optical outputs. Hiss is not a problem with my unit. The sound is wonderful in both stereo and Dolby Digital. There's plenty of power. Definite plusses are DTS, Lucasfilm Cinema Re-EQ, and a 5 channel stereo mode that doesn't introduce any DSP "enhancements". Learning remote is great. FM and Phono sound is excellent. I was reluctant to replace my Yamaha RX-V660 which lacked Dolby Digital and DTS, but I don't miss it one bit. Lacks S-Video for those who need it (I don't. I'm holding out for component (3 wire) video). Also, only one optical cable connection (there are 2 digital coax connections). In summary, I enthusiastically recommend this receiver. Enjoy. Strength:
The 575 is exactly what I was looking for in an a receiver. It handles the latest in audio standards;provides crystal clear power, perfect reproduction of audio with D/A conversion;simple to setup and use, features and performance of the most expensive units i have seen.
Weakness:
The power on/standby setup has always been weird to me. I found the Onkyo 575 able to harness the latest in technology and standards while maintaining a professional and simple design. Most importantly, it made my music and home theatre experience the best it has ever been. I also feel ready for the future with this unit. Similar Products Used: Looked at Sony, Pioneer, Denon, lower priced Onkyo's and found the 575 to be the best combination for the money. |

Strength:
Price, Strong DTS, Great remote, Clean Sound
Weakness:
No s-video inputs, no on screen layout, only 1 optical in, But at this price who cares!! This unit is one of the best amps that I listened to under $1000.00. I listened to the Sonys, Pioneer, and Dennon's. This unit sounded better, or as good as all of them. And the price $369.00!! WOW! Clean interface, and nice universal remote (it would be nice if it had manf. codes though) top off a great sounding, cool running amp. Similar Products Used: Onkyo tx-906 |
