Strength:

Decent power and strength. I like to second set of output which I can have another pair of speakers in a different room.

Weakness:

Haven't find it so far.

Like many of the people who complained here, I got this unit from uBid as well. Luckly, this unit is working perfectly for me so far after almost a year. As I look through most of the complains, it seems that uBid is the problem, not JVC. For the price I paid, I believe it's the best solution for this amount.

you are warned.............................

Thank you for your recent inquiry concerning your JVC product.

UBID is not an authorized dealer for JVC. We do not know where they buy
their products from or the quality of those products. They may be selling
new, used, or refurbished products but we have no way of knowing. If you
purchased a new receiver than you have a 2 year parts and labor warranty and
can send the unit directly to JVC to be repaired. If you purchased a
refurbished receiver then the warranty is 30 days labor and 90 days parts
which you would be out of according to your purchase date.

We hope this information is helpful.

Please include this e-mail in your response for us to better service your
inquiry.

Strength:

Outstanding features and Outstanding value......paid $509

Weakness:

Somewhat complex remote

This is an excellent receiver. I have not experienced any hum or background distortion at all. My Klipsch Epic speakers and center channel are finally being driven to their potential. I couldn't be more satisifed with my choice. Impossible to go wrong with this receiver.....especially for the price!

So far I am thrilled I didn't cave into brand-snobbery and buy the Yamaha or Denon. Both are excellent systems, but at $500 more, I really couldn't see or hear the justification of the expense. Now, on to the 1028! I love the optical setups. Plenty O'inputs to spare. Sound doesn't happen until volume hits around 45 or so. Not sure why anyone would care, the sound is clean and strong and not overly loud at that point. From there the volume just goes up. At 90 or so it is quite loud and I couldn't imagine the neighbors would appreciate extended stays in this setting. The AV Compulink feature is brilliant. This connects any other JVC components you have together. If you put a dvd in and hit play, the reciever comes on and selects the appropriate settings. My wife loves the simplicity and ease of use. The remote works my RCA 52" as well.

IMHO: The reason this unit deserves a 5 STAR review is not because it is better then a Yamaha or Denon or HK receiver costing 2 or 3 times as much. This is simply not a fair compairison. It DOES deserve a 5 STAR rating because at a very fair price you get solid performance, features, and value.

I only recently started researching audio gear but found the 1028-VBK to be the best bang for your buck. For @ $580 you get dolby digital, DTS, loads of optical and rca inputs and great sound. I matched the receiver with the JVC XL-MC334 200 cd and the XV-D701 dvd. It is quite handy having the compu-link system. As far as the receiver goes, yes there are better receivers out there. but they cost more. For the features sound and price I would expect to pay closer to the list but for $580 I am happy. The sound is clean, in "simulated" surround there is some hiss, but you can turn the rear speakers down if need be. The on screen display is great for finding CDs if you have the JVC changer and the remote is great, especially the fact that is lights up and can be used from other rooms if need be. I don't need a digital out but if I had a CD burner it would have been nice. That may bother some folks. The big picture is that this is a great piece of equipment at a great price. I've had it for a month and it makes movie watching (DVD) a really great experience. Give this unit a try or spend more elsewhere for less.

I have had this unit for almost a week now and I think it is a great value. The only thing that kind of bothered me is that you do have to turn the volume up considerably to get any kind of performance out of it. I think this is my own perception problem because in the old days you were never supposed to turn an amplifier past 3/4 volume ever! This is not the case with this amp. I have run this thing at 85 of 90 possible volume level and the sound is clean and loud! I bought this unit for my home theater. DD and DTS was a must. The DD is awesome! Can't wait to hook up my new SUB. The remote is great as well as the RF extend feature and multi room/source capability. Only thing that is lacking as others have noted, AC-3 RF input for laserdisc and an Optical out for CR-R/RW. Other than that for under $600, there is not a better value out there.

I have had my JVC-RX1028VBK for 2 months now. Going by the specs. it looked like a great receiver. In real life it is just mediocre.
First of all, there IS a hiss. I find it quite annoying, especially if you turn the compression on for night time listening. If the compression is off, it is OK but you can still hear it if you listen carefully.

Second, maybe I'm old fashioned but I like a REAL volume control not an electronic one that requires almost 2 full turns to go from min to max and reacts slowly even when you turn it quickly. Also, the volume does not stay where you left it but goes back to around 30 (very low volume) when you change modes. This is irritating.

Other things I find annoying are the remote that will not control my Panasonic DVD player or Sony VCR and the fact that the receiver turns on automatically when you turn on the TV but does not turn off after you shut off the TV. So if you turn off the receiver first, then the TV, you must do it quickly otherwise the receiver turns back on again. Also, if you hold the subwoofer volume button down, it increases or decreases the volume very slowly. It is faster (but again annoying) to hit the button repeatedly to change the sub volume. The RF remote is a nice feature but if it cannot contol my other equipment it is useless to me. The remote is not at all intuitive nor are the other controls. To some it up, this receiver has a lot of features but they are poorly implemented. The manual is poor. It does not explain the features or operation very well. Some features are not documented at all.

If this was JVC's low end or midrange receiver, I could give it 3 or 4 stars. But being that it is their top of the line receiver, I can only give it 2 stars. They really could have done a much better job of designing it.

Strength:

Very Cheap!! Can upgrade to a amp and correct the hum, and still be a good deal.

Weakness:

Some hummmm!!

I like this unit, there is no other unit with so many options at such a low price, and as I said if you don't like the Hummm.......upgrade to a separate amp.

Strength:

It has great features lots of digital audio inputs, and like an old system I like the compulink for the other JVC DVD and CD player I recently purchesed

Weakness:

The rear surround channel would buzz and I could hear the radio channel whil playing movies.
I can't figure out how to hear sound through the PCM channel.

I was lulled into buying a JVC system,( Receiver,DVD and CD player) by the low prices on UBID.I bought the receiver 2 weeks ago and had it setup for 4 days before I heard a buzzing in my rear channel.
I like the look and the ease of operation, I never read the manuals, I feel it should be easy enugh to figure out. I am still having difficulty setting up the PCM signal. Nothing I do seems to be able to get any life out of that line. Either it is made unusually hard to set up or it doesn't work but I'll worry about that once I get the amp back from the shop.
I feel a sense of regret creeping in as I take my received to the shop, and I just had problems with my DVD 701 fluttering, yesterday.
I bought a JVC surround system 11 years ago and now it "rocks" my garage. My old system works great but I am leary of this current combo. I would say choose a different brand Pioneer or Sony, I have never had a problem with the many components I have bought in the past. I didn't believe you could have problem with electronics in this day and age but I feel until JVC gets its act together stay away.
I wish I had bought a low end Elite receiver from Pioneer, but what am I suppsed to do my wife draws the line at 4 receivers in the house.
