Strength:

16:9 MODE

Weakness:

Television is over priced , and under featured , Sony''s warranty sucks . JVC offers the best warranty and cost less , Sony can''t give a reason for why that is so.

I have had a problem that Sony can''t answer, neither can the techs. The problem is a darker line on one side of the screen .This was kind of resolved by turning the brightness down . Now when i watch dvds with the 16:9 mode where it''s dark on the movie the screen looks like distortion. Like a scrambled picture Only in some areas. It''s starting to get annoying. Please email if have answers or advice. Thanks for reading

I originally purchased the 43" sony projection tv. I did not like it so I returned it and got the Wega 36". I really like this TV. Picture quality is great on dvd's and really good on regular cable. I get alot less glare on this than any other tube tv and it just looks bigger than the rest.

This is an Update to my mosts a few weeks ago.

I recieved the TV back from service and it was worse than it was before they took it. We exchanged it for another 36FS12 which was delivered today. Several of the problems that the other set had was not in this, but one problem sis remain. I have my cable box hooked up to the set on Video1 using a high quality S-Video cable. When watching a DVD on Video4 using component, there is a white rolling bar line that is moving from right to left. However if I unplug the S-video, the bar goes away. I am thinking of trying the Panasonic CT-32HX40 and see if I get the same thing.

Strength:

Picture Quality watching DVDs

Weakness:

weight, picture quality watching analog cable or VHS, white bars through dark scenes

Basically i understood when buying this television that the picture quality would be poor through analog sorces so thats not an issue other than for the price of the set it could be better than poor. although certain stations are clear most are not. Vhs is basically bad i only use vhs for watching movies i have not aquired on dvd yet.
The dvd picture is great i couldn't ask for more. The only problem I really have is that while watching dark scenes on any video source I have noticed that the color(black and white) is not uniform on the screen. What i can see very clearly is mutiple vertical stationary bars about 1-2 inches thick on both sides of the screen (about 3 inches from the edge extending inward) much lighter than the rest of the screen. I can rid this problem only when turning the brightness level way down, but that in turn makes another problem which is it makes the screen way to dark. This problem is quite annoying especially when watching movies such as SEVEN where most scenes are dark. I have contacted SONY about the problem and they didn't give me much to go on so i'm lost there.
The only other problem is the speakers. Horrible tin cans.
All in all though the television is good. Although it is priced way too high. Without the white bar problem and the poor speaker quality i would say this is a pretty good buy.
If anyone can help me with the white bar problem please email me peanutking15@hotmail.com

Have several complaints about black on black and the cable grainess issue. Please read below and answer the questions, which I will put online later after I get enough data.

Hi,

I have gotten several emails on the following questions from Wega owners. I plan to send the complete report to everyone after I have gotten all the emails: But if you could answer the following questions, that would be great:

1. What is your perfect settings and why? (i.e. Movie, picture:100%, brightness:75%, color: 30%...etc or you can write Movie, picture: 70 bars, Brightness: 50 bars... so forth)

2. Do you have more distortion when you add an extra connection? (i.e. some wega owners have dvd with componet video and when they put an s-video for their PS2 or other devices, it creates a distortion when viewing the dvd or tv for that matter)

3. On Movie settings, when you increase the brightness past 50%, do you get distortion or just bright black screen? (ie. most wega owners say that when past 50%, the black becames distorted and snowy).

Email me any questions, you would like to ask the wega group? Either through audioreview email form or at claudiomeira@hotmail.com Thanks in advance.

Strength:

Clear Picture

Weakness:

Weight, remote and other problems

I found the picture to be exceptionally clear. My set had a problem when using my Toshiba dvd player through the component vid inputs I had a vertical line that scanned from right to left across the screen. You could only see it
with lighter colored backgrounds but I found it annoying. The line did not appear when running through the s video inputs. I also found that any vertical line in the background (ie:wall or corner of building)bends near the top of the screen! This is totally unacceptable. After returning the set I noticed that many of the demo models do the same thing. I thought that the remote was too light as it didn't feel like you were holding anything and it wouldn't operate my Star Choice sat reciever. The delivery charge was worth every cent. I'm glad I didn't have to carry it up stairs!
I recently tried a Hitachi 36" Ultravision and thought the picture was close to the Sony for a lot less money. I didn't have any of the video problems with it

Strength:

Great picture when you have it set properly. Flat screen is fantastic.

Weakness:

Hard to get the picture "right" at first. Turn off the Scan Velocity Modulation. Highly recommend the Avia setup disk to set up color, picture, brightness, sharpness. My picture had a slot rotation right out of the box, but the onscreen adjustment fixed that. I use the movie setting all the time, since SVM is turned off by default. Weight -- but I was lucky to have had it delivered. I hate to think that I'll have to move the TV when my wife wants the room repainted...

Great picture if you have a good signal. Beware that this TV really shows the flaws in any signal source you have. DVD look fantastic, esp. in the 16x9 format.

I have digital cable, which is sig. better than analog cable, but the signal clarity of the channels vary. I tried DishNetwork but this TV really shows up the flaws in the MPEG decoding. Lots of pixellation (looks blocky in gradual color variations). Digital cable exhibits the same thing, but to a lesser degree.

I see the same problems others have mentioned with a form of dot crawl on white text or on the yardage lines on football games. And blurry text. Has anyone found a way to solve those problems?

I compared to projection TVs that were larger, but the picture on this direct view set is sign. better in my opinion. Very happy -- would be happier if someone can tell me how to improve the text problems.

View the view I wrote below.

I wrote a review which is below. But I want to write regarding the grainy cable which seems to be a huge problem. Which after all, most of us spend watching rather than dvd movies. My cable on my Wega is very grainy on some channels and decent to good on some other channels. I have had alot of emails regarding grainy cable and whether direct tv or digital cable will help. After a some research. I have notice that digital cable or direct tv makes a great improvement over normal cable. Email me, if you have digital cable or direct tv and tell me about your experience also if you have normal cable. Thanks. my email is claudiomeira@hotmail.com
