Strength:

Picture, picture and BTW, PICTURE!

Weakness:

Crosstalk between channels in the tuner on lower channels, unless you have digital cable or satellite. Sound not great.

Have had this TV about three years. Bought it after reading many good reviews here and at Consumer Reports. Sound sucks, but pic is great. After getting digital cable and a DVD, the picture quality really showed. I never envy the sharpness on TV''s at showrooms or friends houses anymore. For analog input signals there is a little ghosting between channels, and overall the sound lacks range and clarity; but like everyone else, I run it through my audio system anyway.

Strength:

Great picture quality for the money. Four color temperatures and other adjustments let you get the picture just the way you like it.

Weakness:

Useless PIP (do people really watch DVDs and TV at the same time?). Sound.

I''ve had this for about six months now. It''s on every day for an average of 4-5 hours (we have an invalid at home with us). We are not home theater buffs, but needed a decent TV of this size. Compared them all at six stores, read all the reviews, bought this one and hoped for the best. It has not disappointed. I think it is one of the best TVs you can buy for the money. It was the best I tried in it''s price category, and the cheapest with a decent digital comb filter. If you watch primarily cable (as we do), after a digital filter, the signal is often the limiting factor anyway. I have been very pleased with the detail and color saturation, with the exception of greens (which on this set, as my other Sharp, tend to be a little blue) and the yellows (which are true, but a little washed out). Flesh tones are among the most accurate I''ve ever seen from any TV regardless of price. I didn''t care what the sound was like, since I''ve never heard "built in" sound that was really great anyway. The sound isnt very good in a "home theater" context, but it is not annoyingly brash or shrill, and is sufficient for our needs. If you want better sound, get a receiver and have at it - it has the jacks you need. Bottom line for me is that I continue to get a kick out of watching this set - I see picture detail (even on old black and white films) that I''ve never seen before, the color is great, and it is engrossing and just plain fun to watch. Better TVs? Plenty, I''m sure. Better for the money? I couldn''t find one. I am very pleased with this purchase

Strength:

excellent picture quality, low price

Weakness:

not enough inputs, features

I upgraded from a 27" RCA which I sold for $350. The Sharp was $499 orginally but I got for 25% off because it was the floor model which made It $375 (no tax because I bought It at the Air Force Base Exchange). So for the upgrade I paid $25!! The RCA had more video inputs and also had speaker clips so you you could hook up speakers for enhanced surround sound (not DPL). I upgraded because the RCA was just to small for my living room. A extra 5" made a big difference. I used AVIA dvd for the picture adjustments. The picture quality on the Sharp is 2 times better than the RCA. It does not hold black very well but it is still a really great picture. The colors are very accurate to the NTSC standard. It also had a better picture than the JVC and Panasonic I compared it to. I have it connected to my Denon receiver so I always have the TV speakers turned off so I can't really make an opinion on how they sound. The tv is used 50% for DSS, 35% for dvd movie, 15% for local channels. With excellent picture and low price I feel that this TV is the best in its class.

Strength:

Price, Video trueness, great when audio isn't important

Weakness:

Weight, bulk.

Just picked this up last week after reading the reviews from this site. I was looking specifically for a cheap 32" with lower quality sound/higher picture quality, since all audio would go through my main receiver.

I picked this up as an aging floor model, didn't even come with a box or manual, but paying $120 less--it was well worth it. This model is likely going to be phased out, according to the various sales reps I talked with around town. It is a complete steal if you can haggle a deal out of them just to get rid of it...!

Although only a week owned, I am very pleased with the picture quality. I can only imagine this thing has been on for the past few months being a floor model, but you wouldn't be able to tell.

A great holdover system for those who want size on a budget... Highly recommended. Sharp has about average reliability data according to Consumer Reports.

Strength:

Price, Picture quality

Weakness:

Sound, no picture preset

I was trying to find a 32 inch tv with a moderate price which had good picture quality and good price. I was looking at Samsung, Philip and RCA which almost sell for the same price. After reading other's review on the Philip and RCA models and how they suffer from quality control and bad repair history( RCA, GE) I zeroed in on Samsung and Sharp. Sharp got great review from E-Town and it was Home-Theater Magazine favarite for last couple of years . So I decided to go with Sharp.

And now the evaluation: Picture quality is very good. The red and blue are excellent( for green see below). I wouldn't say it will blow you away but you are not spending an arm and a leg for picture qaulity one would spend on Sony's Wega and Panasonic's Taho. For price it is very good. If you are using cable this TV will shine. It got excellent tuner and remote will store 12 favarite chanal that is accesable with atouch of a button. Also P-I-P will come in handy. The sound is Ok at best. it will help if it is routed through stereo. It is also very compact( depth wise). It doesn't take alot of room specially in the back.

Now the bad news: The flesh tone accuracy is only fair and green is too light in color.( these prblems are solvable by accesing servive menu: I would not recomend doing this unless you know what you are doing). Also there is no picture preset which enable the user to adjust picture controls via a single remote button. There is a picture temerature control( Blue, STD, RED).
The power supply is also weak. The picture size change some-what with brightness of screen. It is only noticable when there is a dark picture is playing and you hit the Menu botton, you could see the pictur size changing. It does not effect the picture quality so I does not effct the rating.
Also there is very faint hum noise( sound like a 60 Hz Hum) coming thru my Stereo if the valume is turned up very high while volume on my tv is turned down very low. I find out I could cure this by grounding my reciever.

All in all I am satisfaid with this set for the amount of money I paid. I could have spent $200 to $400 more on a set with a better picture quality, maybe, but in two to five years HDTV will be here and HDTV tv set will be more affordable, and I will move this TV to my bedroom. So at this cross-road, this set will fit the bill very nice.

I would give it four star for incorrect flesh-tone and sound which both can be corrected via service menu and by grounding your audio reciever.

The sharp is a great value, but not as good as the previous model from the year before-the KS400. For 1999, sharp has put a digital comb filter in the LS400. The KS400 did not have one, and the digital comb filter was the weakness in the sharp line for 1998. However, they did improve it quite a bit over the year before, and though the LS400 isn't quite as good as the KS400 IMO, it still is a great value and beats others priced higher hands down. Also consider that this tv is very simple to calibrate and even a basic adjustment using video essentials will yield great results.

I have had a Sharp 27" TV for 3 years and had been very satisfied with it.I recently decided to purchase a 32" TV and started to do some comparison
shopping. I looked at Sony, Toshiba, RCA, and Sharp. I must say that Sony
does have the best picture in my opinion. However the Sharp was a close 2nd
in my opinion. The Sony was selling for $720 and the Sharp was on sale for
$545. I have it hooked to my Hughes DSS and am very satisfied with the TV,
If you are in the market for a new TV you should check out Sharps products.
I think they are some of the best buys on the market.

the picture quality on this tv is as good as those in the $600 to $700 dollar price range. the sound quality from the tv speakers sucks, but i turned the speakers off and run it through my stereo receiver. dvd's look excellent through the s-video input. i got a great deal at costco, i couldnt buy a better tv for $400. I recomend this tv if you want great picture quality at a low price.

Weakness:

none at this price point!

The Sharp 32L-S400 is a great bargain for a <$1000.00 set.
I compared it with several models up to $1000.00 and found
it to be the best tradeoff for picture quality, features
and build quality.

I have owned 2 Sharp sets in the past. None had any problem.
The 32L-S400 replaced my 8 year old Sharp 27" set, which is
still working great.

The closest competitor was a Panasonic, but it was over
$100.00 higher, and didn't have fromt A/V jacks.

As being a Sharp tv owner for 8+ years, I have not
been let down so far. Hopefully the 32L-S400 will be as
good as my 27" was.

Bottom Line: Great value; Yes I would purchase again !
