Strength:

Picture, sound, price and overall looks

Weakness:

none as of yet

I went in and was pretty open to what ever was the best deal. I was looking at sony primarily the flat screen models. I did not want to spend that much $$$$ so I decided that I would look at the regular trinitron. I liked the picture on the JVC-AV32d501 better than the trinitron as well as the sound. I also liked the fact that it had component video inputs and 3 s-video inputs (lots of options). I also think that it looks better than all of the other models of the same type. I was pleased when I got home and hooked it up to my dvd player and was amazed at the picture!!!!!!!!!! If I had it to do all over again, I wouldn't think twice about it. I am very happy thus far!!!!!!

Strength:

Image quality, sound out of the box, inputs and overall value.

Weakness:

None yet...

I bought the D501 and have been very impressed thus far. The inputs are great - DVDs look great. Good sound too. I considered the flat screens by Sony and Panasonic - - the Wega was tooooo heavy for me and the Panasonic was not avialable in my neck of the woods. The JVC had the best image quality IMHO, second only to the Wega - - but for $300 less and PIP plus better inputs, the JVC was a no brainer. I do wish the tube was flater, but I got more than I gave up by rejecting the Wega.

Strength:

Great picture quality, great price, great features.

I love this TV. For the price, it can not be beat. I compared it to the Sony Wega, and the color was better on the JVC and it was $300 less than the Wega. The picture quality is great. I had a couple of channels that came in fuzzy on my old TV that are perfect now. I also have it compu-linked with my other JVC components. When I want to watch a movie it changes channels by itself. All of my JVC equipment syncs together. It works great and I love it.

orginally chose the jvc av32d200 but i was having a problem with the picture[saw a lot of shimmering lines but it ended up being cable reception in the area not the tv]so i took it back and bought the magnavox[sorry but i do not remember the model #]what a mistake!! magnavox picture could not even come close to the jvc's so then i took back the magnavox and got another JVC D500[they had no more d200's]now i couldnt be happier.Great picture, great sound,[sound to me was very important because i do not have the tv hooked up to a seperate amplifier]component video jacks [which i thought would make a HUGE difference over Svideo jacks but to my eyes NOT REALLY]and great all around value.unless you want to spend 1300.00 on a wega this is the best TV you could buy

Strength:

Video preferences option (Theater, Standard, and Choice). Remote, Picture Quality, and the actual design of the TV itself, which looks wider than normal and GREAT for movies.

Weakness:

None thus far, except that this TV is a little wider than most 32" ones (I had to bust out the side of my entertainment center just to fit it in!).

I am actually reviewing the AV32D501 model of this TV (which has not yet been posted for review), which is essentially the same model as the 500, but just has a few extra inputs. I purchased this TV the first day it arrived at Circuit City for $712.00 (not including the 3-year insurance). This TV is the best one that I have ever had! The 501 has 2 A/V inputs in the rear and 1 in the front (for camcorders, etc.), 2 S-Video inputs, and 1 Composite Video input (for DVD players). This is why I gave it a Value 5-star rating. It has EVERYTHING!!! The picture quality is supurb, rivaling even the large screen digital TV's. I looks just like the theaters when watching a movie (colors and words are VERY vibrant and do not run together). Video games have never seen better picture quality as this, especially for a 32" tube TV. I really believe that this is the best you can get. Also I have everything hooked up through S-Video through a hub. I used to be a big fan of Phillips Magnavox (I also reviewed the TP3284C model of this TV) until I went through 4 of their TV's. I will no longer purchase antoherPhillips product again. JVC now has grabbed my attention with this excellent TV. To be honest, I have actually LOOKED for problems with this TV. But so far, have yet to find any. I recommed this TV, whether you are and avid Video Enthusiast or Gamer, or an occasional Viewer and/or Gamer. The only thing that I haven't yet tried with the TV is the sound. I have it hooked up to a home theater system, therefore I do not need the speakers on the TV (which are built on the sides, much like the Proscan systems). But it does have many audio options, along with video. Actually, too many to mention here.

Strength:

PIP, 2 S-Video inputs, 800 lines resolution, surround sound

Weakness:

Remote buttons are not intuitively placed, extremely heavy

After living with my RCA for a while, I was tired of squinting at the screen. I needed a 32" screen, PIP, good resolution, and a decent amount of inputs (at least 3). I settled on the JVC AV-32D501 because I read a lot of good reviews on it and it was a really good value! I haggled with the salesman at Futureshop for $990 CDN. I thought that was a fair price since I didn't want to dish out an additional $600 CDN for the Sony or the Proscan hi-res. Futureshop also gave free delivery and that was a lifesaver.
Let me tell you, the box is huge. And since the tv weighed more than 120 LBS, I needed help getting the TV out of the box and onto the stand.
But this tv is a beauty. Initial setup was a breeze, and you could tweak a lot out of this tv. Picture was pretty clear since all I have is regular cable, not digital. Surround sound was impressive.
I have some minor beefs. Why does the screen darken when you press the display button (say to check the time)? When I scan my channels, I like to go to a particular channel and then use up and down keys. However, the number pad is on the top of the remote while the up/down is on the bottom half. Very annoying. Also, the step in volume levels controls are too large. I find myself wanting to listen at a level between say volume 6 and 7. The PIP is nice except I can't choose the channel I want in the PIP directly. I have to use the +/- PIP channel buttons. DVDs look good except that I could barely see some resolution lines.
I think JVC's next step is to put some more resolution lines to clear up the DVD problem. Other than that, it's a very good tv with a nice big screen that won't break the budget.

Strength:

Sound, price

Weakness:

Picture

Great sound and a very good value. Small details on the picture aren't quite as clear as my 5-year old Sony set. I can't get the contrast and brightness adjusted properly... this aspect of the picture also compares unfavorably to the Sony sets I've always owned in the past. Perhaps I'm spoiled.

However, under most viewing conditions, the difference on the picture would not be perceptible, especially if you don't have a Sony to compare it to. Plus, the sound quality of the comparable Sony model is not as good. To get a Sony with sound as good, you apparently have to spend another $500 and you don't get PIP.

I may have a defective unit - the outer third of the picture has barely visible darker/lighter bands radiating out from center. It is being replaced and if the bands persist, it goes back and I'll pay the extra $500 for the Sony. I personally have no use for PIP anyway.

Strength:

(Hopefully) High quality, sound & picture, looks, value, nice remote

Weakness:

On remote: Power button for VCR seems too close to channel
increment

I needed to replace a 32 inch Sony. Upon considering
both Toshiba and Panasonic 32's, the JVC D501 won out
mostly due to: claims of quality, picture, sound ( I am not hooking it to any theater sytem ), and value. Additionally, it is a good looking system i.e., not silver. After a bit a tweaking, the picture definition is outstanding given both $650 (or anything below $1000 for that matter)and that the feed is basic cable. I would recommend this television without reservation.
