Strength:

Great Picture, awesome DVD playback, excellent sound quality, great value

Weakness:

Possibly remote but it's not that bad

Great Value with alot of options for the price. After reading the reviews on this site I went to Circuit City to comparison shop and I liked the picture on this set better than all other 32's beside flat screens TV's and the only other curved screen set that compared to this set was the Sony but I couldn't force myself to spend the extra money for something that wasn't noticiably different. I would highly recommend this TV to anyone.

Picture, adjustments

Weakness:

Nothing serious

I shopped for awhile, and was planning on going with the Toshiba because of a cheeper price when I found this on onecall.com for $610 shipped to my door, plus a $50 coupon from techbargains.com and I was sold. $560 shipped to my door, it came the next day. Love the picture. My friend has the panasonic superflat and I think he is very silently jealous of my TV since he paid nearly double, no component in, and the picture quality is nearly the same. Played around with S-video and component video to see which was better and couldn't decide. They looked slightly different, but subjectivily I couldn't say which one was better. Definately better than composite though. I enjoyed changing the settings with the THX optimode setup from my Toy Story 2 DVD and love the picture quality now. Looks very, very nice. Would recommend this TV to anyone.

Strength:

Picture quality, combined with good sound, and options, make for a great all around t.v. 800, not 700 lines of res. make it that much better for a 32"

Weakness:

I don't like how they arranged the buttons on the remote...I'm used to a more organized RCA remote. Also, it has much less degree of range.

In the store, sitting beside the bigger 36" and 42" tvs, this looked pretty small. When I took it home and opened the box I almost fell over. This is for my bedroom and I could not believe how large it was.
The style is so nice, with the side firing speakers. The quick channel changing is a big plus, I hate tvs that take 2 seconds to change channels. The on screen menus are pretty simple and easy to navigate, which is always important. Another cool thing is that you can chose between having the alarm come on just one time or everyday; I always forgot to turn my old one off for the weekend -- it woke me up at 7am.
Anyway, the more important thing is, I got a big deal on Boxing week, saved about 120 US and they threw in the matching stand for 35 US. I have a Pioneer DVP 333 with the component hook-up, the picture is pure vanilla, sweet and crisp. Right now I have some shabby computer speakers with a sub for extra sound, but they work very well to fill up a bedroom, I am very impressed with the sound. The bass from the tv is a little weak, but not really if you adjust the settings, it's fine.
The 501 remote has lit channel and volume buttons, but those are the ones anybody can find in the dark. This tv NEEDS a glow remote, after 2 weeks I have memorized most of the buttons, but still, that glow is cool.
The only weakness with this tv is that the remote doesn't have much range...only up to about 40 degrees either way...that can get annoying if you're really lazy like me. I just want to push the button and have it work no matter what.
Still, all the great things about this tv make that remote problem completely insignificant.
No other 32" tv has all the features this one does, although there is no PIP, but who uses PIP? Get the 201 instead of the 501 also. You will not be dissapointed with this tv, it's amazing.

Strength:

Great picture, good sound, component & s-video inputs, fast channel switching, 3 video modes

Weakness:

Unlit remote that only controls TV and VCR (not multiple components), size (big!), unfriendly on-screen menus, bright red LED when powered on.

I bought a Panasonic 32" TV last year in hopes of holding onto it until HDTV was truly ready. What a mistake. I tried to really like the set and overlooked it's glaring flaws. In the end, I couldn't bear it anymore and sold it to a friend who loved the thing. And why not? His former TV was 13"...But I digress.
I did a lot of research (this time) before dropping another 600 bucks on yet another TV. I wanted a Wega but it lacked the features I wanted and, like other reviewers, hate TV's that take forever to switch channels. The JVC throws out an absolutely beautiful picture from our componet-out DVD player and the s-video allows use of 2 game systems and a VCR (via switchbox, of course). You have to change the factory picture settings if you want the best picture even though 'Theater mode' is pretty sweet. Very soft look. Adjusting the set via on-screen menus takes a while to get used to but luckily, it's not something you have to do every time you switch video sources *cough* panasonicsucks *cough* The side-front firing stock speakers are great even if they add to the TV's overall size. We ~really~ had a tough time getting this thing to fit in our current center but there it sits. I think ALL TV makers should: Light their remotes and give them a paging feature for those times when your 3-year old daughter decides to play hide and no seek with the thing. They should also give the owner the option of using the thing to control multiple pieces of equipment. A minor gripe that will be dealt with by purchasing one of those really cool, LCD screen, multi-remotes. Overall, I think this is simply the best 32" analog TV available. Especially for the money. If you're in the market for a new set, you have to at least consider the JVC. And if some sales guy starts pointing you towards a Panasonic be afraid. Be very afraid...

Weakness:

The remote

After researching on this site and others ,I do like the Toshiba line up as well as the wega from Sony. Wega was double the price and the Toshba was about the same maybe abit more, JVC
seem to have the quality and features I was looking for, as well as a great price.I have no regrets going with JVC.

Strength:

Great Picture, Quick Channel change, good sound

Weakness:

Odd remote layout

I bought This TV after looking at every other model in my price range. I looked at a 27" WEGA for a similar price but I really wanted the additional picture size. The "theatre" picture setting is really a nice touch for movies and the quick channel change is great with my digital cable terminal which takes a verrrryyyyy long time to change stations.

This is the first JVC product I have purchased and I am now sure that it wont be the last.

Im also finding that the TV is terrific for watching sports, and it makes my DVD collection look like they should.

HIGHLY RECOMENDED FOR THE PRICE!!!!!

Strength:

Picture Quality!!! Paid $999.00 Canadian.

Weakness:

Screen glare and lack of input button on front of unit.

This television has an unbelievable picture quality. I did a lot of research before purchasing it and and compared it to most other competing models out there. I am running a Toshiba SD-1600 DVD player connected to the TV through the component video outputs, AMAZING!!! The only other television that looks as good is the Sony VVega line, and for the price difference it is no contest.

As far as the weaknesses mentioned they are minor. The screen glare can be annoying on a really bright afternoon or when a light is in front of the set. I usually just lower the blinds or a light behind the set. My only other complaint is when I load a DVD into the play and can not switch the input on the TV to DVD. I have to use the controller, not a big deal just a bit annoying.

Overall, I am convinced that there is not better set on the market for the price. A great buy for someone waiting for the price of HDTV's to come down or anyone who just wants an excellent television.

Strength:

800 lines of resolution, component input, s-video, front A/V inputs, great sound, good value for the money, looks like a 36", good picture, great for my PS2.

Weakness:

High glare, need to turn down lights to avoid glare

I wanted a Sony WEGA from the get go. Love the picture and the flat screen but couldn't afford it.
Went to Circuit City and was looking at other brands in the 32" size. I was shown this model and was thoroughly impressed. Didn't feel like I needed the picture in picture of the D501 model so saved some money there. Can't find another TV at this price with the quality of resolution, and the inputs it is capable of. The picture compared to all of the TVs around were not nearly as sharp. The colors are very warm. The dark tube is great. It has preset settings for movies, personal, etc. The sound is great compared to others (Panasonic, Toshiba, and some Sonys..)
There is one thing that you must consider when buying a TV of this type compared to that of a flat screen (SONY & JVC)is that they are still only ANALOG!!!!! Why spend $400-600 more for a flat screen that is still just an analog TV. Hold out for the HDTVs to come down in price and then put this one in your bedroom!!

Strength:

Everything.

Weakness:

Reflective screen glass.

I'll keep it simple, since the engineers in the crowd seem to have all missed the boat on this one: this is a serious kick-ass TV, and I could not be more impressed with the quality of the sound and picture. I unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone interested in their money's worth.

After a sold month of internet consumer site research, I bought a Panasonic 27SF37 based on recommendations from the rabble. Great non-reflective screen, and THAT'S IT. Could not get one clear picture, one acceptable color setting, one non-blooming red pixel, nada -- not one moment where I said Hey, good. Back it went, and for only a bit more dough, picked up the larger-screen JVC AV32D201. Hooked up DishNetwork satellite and sat back to velvety blacks, crystalline whites, non-blooming reds, and incredibly realistic flesh tones. Equally important, this set has the best sound on any TV anywhere (most seem to be made these days with lousy built-in speakers, for the home theatre crowd; I don't want to have to do anything but turn on the TV when I want to watch TV.)

My previous TV was also a JVC which ran flawlessly for 8 years before being repossessed by my $*#&! brother-in-law.

In sum: run, do not walk, to this set.

My recommended settings: (sorry, forgot the scale numbers):
TINT: default
COLOR: two lower than default
PICTURE: two lower than default
BRIGHT: one lower than default
DETAIL: two lower than default
SOUND: BBE on / surround off

Strength:

great picture, cost, decent audio

Weakness:

TV as big as 36", side mounted speakers cause this.

Got this TV just before DirecTV hooked up. Picture much better then w/old cable company. Picked this TV over the other JVC (not D series) for the better audio (not viewing ht). As the other reviewer, this set is temp. till digital TV's become more affordable and tech issues worked out.
At this level TV's only Sony seemed better.
