Strength:

Great Picture, Great Sound, Great Everything.

Weakness:

Color of remote. Why grey, the TV's black?

When i picked it up at the store it looked small, I thought maybe 32 instead, but since I was shopping for my Mother who presently has an old floor model Electrohome, I didn't want to overwhelm her with such a large TV. I have been testing it at my place for a week. One it is more then big enough, it will not fit in my entertainment stand, width wise. It looks great it sounds great. The picture quality is well beyond my own RCA Colortrack 2000. My mom will not have any trouble seeing this picture, unlike old TV, the tube was going. I think when I take this to my moms I'm going to have withdrawal symptons. Going back to a 21 inch, can I handle it? Guess I'll be visiting Mom more often. :)

Memory of settings

I LOVE this TV. I have the original model D200 that has the 700 lines of resolution, so I can't comment on user complaints regarding the 201 or 202 having reduced resolution or sound. As for the sound, mine has the full 5 watts but I wish it didn't. I run my sound through my HT system anyway and cut out the TV speakers. However, this is my first and only gripe with this TV. The way I have to hook up my cable is to run it right into the TV and send the audio signal to the receiver. I turn the internal TV speaker to OFF and run the TV at full volume to send the audio out signal to my receiver at full signal. However, I live in an old house and we are subject to blown fuses from time to time. Whenever we blow a fuse, the TV resets to the default settings established by JVC. So, whenever that happens and the TV comes back on...the TV speaker defaults back to ON, and you get blown out of the room.

I realize this is more a problem with my house than the TV, but it's still annoying I cannot set this to OFF and make that the default setting in the case of a blown fuse or power outage. OK, enough venting.

Outside of that, this TV is an incredible bargain. First it gives a great picture. I don't care about the remote because I use an all in one remote (as most others probably do as well). Picture on DVD is outstanding...crystal clear and it has component in features (although my DVD player doesn't have component OUT, but when I upgrade that will be solved).

My only other complaint is that I didn't get the 32" or 36" model when I was shopping....would have made a difference for DVD's big time. If you can get one of the original 200's used, do not hesitate to go for it...no mechanical problems or anything in the 2+ years I've owned this set. I can't wait to put this in my bedroom when I upgrade to a 16:9 big screen unit in 2002!!!

Strength:

Great picture; easy to use on-screen menus.

Weakness:

Constant buzzing noticeable at low volume levels; illuminated remote is a joke.

After reading the numerous reviews on this TV, and the comparisons made to the competition, I decided that dollar for dollar it was the one for me.

I went to several stores that offered this TV and viewed it in comparison to the competition. While there is no comparison to a WEGA or JVC's own i-ART, you can't do much better when you consider the features for the price.

My only two complaints involve a constant buzzing that I notice when I have the volume down low (setting 0, 1, or 2), and the illuminated remote is a waste of time. The only buttons that illuminate are the four grouped in a circle that I could find with my eyes gouged out. Perhaps the NUMBER BUTTONS and the FUNCTION BUTTONS could be illuminated? Now that would make sense.

Hyperscan channel changing is a feature I'd like to be able to shut off.

Component In is an excellent feature for a TV of this price.

Very impressed with the picture.

It only took me a short time to get the settings the way I liked them. Perhaps the time in the store playing with the TV made it easier to do. Still, I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Now, what can you do for me in the way of a multi-function DVD player?

Strength:

Quality picture, fantastic sound, good easy to use remote and instructions.

Weakness:

Slight glare, but with all the extras video input-output front A/V jacks and price, A little glare seems minor.

Purchased the AV27D201 seven months ago, Did,nt impress me at first in the store, However the picture seem to have a better quality than the other sets. Once I got it home and set up (wow) beautiful picture and the best sound i,ve heard on any T,V, very good remote and classy looking to boot.

Horizontal Screen Distortion

My six year old Panasonic needed a $200 repair, so it was time to hunt for a bargain. Let me say that this is it! I have the 2001 model so it has the lesser 600 line resolution and cheaper speakers, but it's still a great deal.

I do agree with a couple problems experienced by other reviewers. Yes it has glare, and yes the colors out of the box tend to be too vivid. I use a digital cable box for the tuner and the TV as a monitor, but it still experiences the graininess with poor signals. I don't think its the tuner, perhaps the comb filter or the fact that there is just not enough good data in a bad signal to match the higher resolution.

A more serious problem is with the horizontal distortion. With things like a letterboxed movie, a stock ticker, or the cable menu, there is a visable "bending" along the horizontal towards the edges of the screen. It's slight, but very noticible.

I have another 3 weeks to decide if it is enough to want to take the TV back. I'm not sure that anything else out there can touch the value of this set. I may go back and give the Panasonic products another look. I think it's just a matter of if I can deal with the distortion. As I really don't notice it 80% of the time, the set could be a keeper.

Strength:

Price. Picture Quality. Reduced Curvature.

Weakness:

Curvature is not reduced enough.
Slight Glare. Sound is not particularly great IMHO.

This is a great TV. I would definitely prefer a flat screen but it would cost twice as much. I find the picture quality of this TV as good or better than any other TV out there excluding flat screens. I do not think the sound is all that great but I picky about sound. When needed I run sound through my HT audio system any way.

Don't know yet

I went to Circuit City to check out the Phillips that they advertised. Mainly interested in an up to date tv to hold me 'till finances allow me to go to HDTV.
After comparing this one (AV-27D302) to the Phillips I willingly paid the extra $100 for what seemed to be a much larger screen (although both were 27 inchers) and a better picture.

I have not had it long enough to form a strong opinion but just wanted to say that I did not realize that this TV had hyperscan untill reading about it here. It is not that much of a bother for me.

One word, horrible. I recently purchased a DVD player and had high hopes for this tv becuse of the component inputs. My first tv blew out in less than 48 hours. I took it back to Circuit City and got a replacement. Did it help....NO. The replacementlasted about 15 miutes before the TV went completely green. Rather than get a third I replaced it with the Sony AV27V42 model and completely happy.
