Strength:

Digital comb filter, picture, sound, price

Weakness:

slight glare

Excellent picture...excllent sound...great price. What more could you ask for? I picked up the AV-27D201 for $545 (Canadian)about a week ago and I haven't regretted buying it since. This tv gives you all the quality and features of a $1200+ tv. The only flaw is the glare on the screen.

Strength:

Excellent picture, lots of inputs

Weakness:

AV COMPU Link does not work

I have purchased this TV primaraly because of the inputs (component in), picture size and the picture quality - with a capatiblity of 700 lines of horz. resolution. Furthermore, since I have a JVC VCR I wanted to use the AV COMPU Link features. In my case it AV COMPU Link does not work like described in the manual of the TV, VCR and on JVC WWW Site.
Overall, I would highly recommend this TV to one that seeks high-quality picture and sound.

Strength:

Inputs, price, remote

Weakness:

Video settings

Had this TV for all of one day and I love it already. The video settings are totally retarded, but I'm not too fussy when it comes to that stuff. It looks good enough for me. I have a crappy cable connection and even crappier VCR, so it's tough to judge how much better the picture could be if I had some proper hardware.

The remote is leaps and bounds above my other JVC remote (for a CD player) - it learned the codes for my VCR and cable box with no difficulty. The channel and volume buttons are nicely spaced out. It would've been nice if it were illuminated, but that ain't a big deal.

The BBE sound is fabulous, but I'm not so sure about the HyperSurround. Takes some getting used to, I guess.

Great value for what I paid for it - $599CDN.

Strength:

Speakers and component Input

Weakness:

Setting the color

I was shopping for a 27inch tv for about six months.
Look at the Panasonic Flat screen the picture is better than the D200 but the component inputs and the price is why
I chose D200. The picture looks great when playing my dvd.
If you are looking to watch a great picture when playing your dvd or use the s-video to play your dreamcast and save
a ton of money I highly recommend this tv. Also go with
the D200 it is the same as the D500 with out the PIP and
you save about $100.00 Dollars. One more minor thing setting the colors is a pain.

Weakness:

The remote could be better.

Good picture, good sound, great price. Can't beat its value for the money.

Strength:

The sound is truly amazing for a relatively small set. Also, the remote is well-designed and the set is very good-looking compared to many others.

Weakness:

Picture quality was extremely disappointing -- lacking in color accuracy and image reproduction, and plagued by fuzziness and distortion. Problems appeared to worsen with time.

After seeing the rave reviews for the JVC AV27D201 among a variety of sources, I purchased one with a great deal of anticipation. Upon getting it home and setting it up, I was extremely disappointed. The picture was extremely fuzzy -- and a cable test with my smaller bedroom TV revealed that the cable signal was not the problem. In addition, the colors were way too bright, and no amount of adjustment seemed to correct the problem. As the week progressed the fuzziness of the picture seemed to worsen.

On the positive side, the set had the best sound of any set I have ever used, and the remote was exrtremely well-designed. Also, the "Hyperscan" didn't give me the problems that have been reported elsewhere.

I really hoped that this set would meet my needs, because the price was extremely reasonable. However, after one week of disappointment I returned the set to the retailer. At this point I am reluctant to purchase another JVC product -- and I'll save up for a flat-screen set from Panasonic or Sony.

The new set replaced a 15-year-old NEC which was a great unit for its time. Other brands compared were Sony, Panasonic and Toshiba.

Strength:

Low cost, component inputs, good picture

Weakness:

Color seems a bit iffy, comb filter is weak

This review is for the AV32D200, since there wasn't an option for me to add it. I picked up this set a couple weeks ago and, compared to the 19 inch Goldstar that I used for five years beforehand it was a -huge- improvement.

I shopped around for a new tv---considered the Toshibas, but thought that the picture on the JVC D-series looked much better. Considered some of the Panasonic models, but didn't want to pay extra for a PIP option: useless to me. Also, this model had a component input option.

Cable is alright. It particularly has an impact on my enjoyment of the various shows, movies that I watch on cable, VHS and DVD---particularly DVD, the picture is crystal clear through the player since using component inputs bypasses the somewhat inadequate comb filter. Playing the N64 via S-video never looked better. I'd comment more on the sound, which seems to be galaxies beyond what my Goldstar produced, but I current have the speakers turned off (via a nifty color that allows you control of them and other features, such as three different picture settings, one of which you can adjust to your taste---definately recommended with a Video Essentials DVD, the picture is horrible out of the box with the factory settings) since I currently have a surround sound system. Finally, a picture sized to match the sound.

The picture is definately as good as the more expensive Panasonic Superflats and even begins to approach the Sony Wegas, for a fraction of the price. It's proved very dependable, and I've had no problems with picture distortion or geometry or any of the other things that I often see afflicting the more costly higher-end models.

I picked mine up for $630 though I've heard of folks finding it for $580 and less, so shop around. Great bargain with a great picture. Glad I bought it.

outputs, component, s-video, and 2 av

Weakness:

for the price? none

I was gonna spend about 300-400 dollars more on a TV until I came across this one, it had all the options I wanted and its picture was very close to those that were priced about 30 percent more. To get something with a big difference from this you have to buy the $1200+ sony which is 3 times as much. If you are looking for something under 800 with a good amount of features, you should check this out, cause I think that extra 400-500 you can save, would be better put elsewhere. Right now is a bad time to buy TV's cause everything is priced so highly, my advice is to buy this JVC, then when the HDTV's drop in price, upgrade to that. Until that happens their is really no reason to spend crazy amounts of money on a non-HDTV

Remote is just OK
On-screen menus are also just OK

I really have been pleased with this television. At the time that I purchased it, this model was the only one that I could find with component inputs for my DVD player for under $500.

The picture quality is very good for the money spent - the extra lines of resolution make a difference compared to other models in the same price range.

I bought this TV when I was in Grad School and needed a good TV for not a lot of money. I am sure that whichever family member or friend ends up with this TV when I upgrade to a new one will be very happy with it.
