Strength:

picture, inputs, remote

Weakness:

quality (?)

I have seen the picture look amazing using a Pioneer 434, but it is the second unit as the first one broke after the 3rd day in my home.

As a result, i am nervous of the replacement units quality, especially after reading the reviews of similar problems.

So i have a quick question for other owners:

Are all the crosses in the convergence setting supposed to line up perfectly? My corner crosses are impossible to set 'all white' with blue or red halo's distorting them.

I was not initially concerned as the picture can look fantastic, especially since the Video Essentials calibration, but I could use some input from other owners as to their experiences setting the convergence. Do I need a technician or am i being neurotic?

Thanks for sharing any advice/experiences.

Incredible picture, questionable quality.

Strength:

Plenty of inputs, remote is handy,

Weakness:

focus, visual noise

After calling in the technician only a week after getting the thing in the door. The clarity is not there. The tech did the convergence adjustment and a few other tricks, but to no success. The other thing is it has some visual noise that shows up when viewing half tone scenes (ie sky, clouds)
This noise can easily be seen by ejecting a DVD and the screen saver on my Toshiba DVD player set to gray. The only sujestion the tech had was to reduce the sharpness. Very disapionted with the TV and Tosiba's (send tech and keep sending tech and do not return) policy.

Strength:

Picture quality

Weakness:

None so far

I have had this model for a month and really like it. HD content rules! DVD's look great but not near as good as HD signals. I have not had the power problem and hopefully will not experience it in the future. For the money this is an excellent TV. I feel this is the best purchase I have made since my acoustic energy speakers (and that's saying a lot)! I am running a Denon 1500 DVD player, General Instruments HD decoder and Motorola digital cable box.

Strength:

Image Quality

Weakness:

Audio ( you need an extra audio System)

I am still amazed at image quality after a year. I plugged my Pioneer DV-434 progressive scan. A simple Yamaha RX-V795 drive the Paradigm speakers. The whole system cost me around 4000$US and I get a good bang for the money.
The only bad thing is the TV audio system which is not up to the quality of the set.

GREAT PICTURE,LOTS OF INPUTS,

Weakness:

NONE TO REMARK ABOUT.

I HAVE HAD THIS T.V. FOR THREE MONTHS AND HAVE BEEN VERY HAPPY WITH IT. I BOUGHT IT AFTER CHECKING THE REVIEWS ON THIS SITE.
MY REMARKS TO THE OTHERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FACTORY CONTRAST SETTINGS...USE YOUR HEADS! THEY ARE SET WITH HIGH CONTRAST AND BRIGHTNESS SO THEY CAN BE SEEN UNDER FLOURECENT LIGHTS FOUND IN YOUR TYPICAL STORE SETTING.NO ONE WOULD BUY A REAR-PROJ.T.V. IF THEY COULD NOT SEE THE PICTURE AT THE STORE. JUST REDUCE CONTRAST/BRIGHTNESS TO
50%,AND SHARPNESS UNDER 10%.
AS FOR PICTURE QUALITY, THIS SET ONLY GIVES WHAT IT GETS.
(CRAPPY SIGNAL IN = CRAPPY PICTURE).WITH BASIC CABLE, THE PICTURE IS PRETTY FAIR. WITH DIGITAL CABLE THE PICTURE IS MUCH BETTER. WITH MY PROGRESIVE SCAN-DVD PLAYER THE PICTURE IS AWESOME!!!!. I HAVE NOT TRIED A HDTV SIGNAL YET BUT I CAN'T WAIT. OCCASIONALLY I SEE SOME DOT CRAWL BUT CAN REDUCE IT WITH THE PROPER CONTRAST SETTINGS.
MY SET ONLY TURNS OFF WITH THE REMOTE. NO PROBLEMS LIKE SOME OTHERS HAVE HAD.
LOOKED AT SONY HITACHI RCA PANASONIC.... THIS WAS THE BEST BUY.
A TECHNICAL REPAIRMAN I KNOW ALSO HAS AND LOVES THIS SET.
WILL UPDATE IN THE FUTURE.

Strength:

Like picture when it is working and remote control is good.

Weakness:

First TV didn't work at all. The second TV flickers on and off within an instance. First unit was replaced. Remote doesn't recognize my Denon AVR 1500 prologic unit. Considering options with my second unit.

Since the first Toshiba didn't work and second is flickering off and on with a split second, I am sonsidering changing to a Sony but the extra $800 is putting me off.

Strength:

built in Line-Doubler, numerous inputs, price, the remote isn't bad either (backlit).

Weakness:

you really need a audio setup with this TV, built in speakers will not cut it

The built in line-doubler on this set makes up for a lot of flaws in most TV broadcasts. Until HD programming is the standard less than perfect images will be the norm, but this TV does it's best to make up for the FCC's lack of inovation. Until then watching DVD's on my progressive scan player makes movie theaters not so tempting. I was impressed with the lack of adjusting that needed to be done when I first hooked it up - it seemed like the picture settings were right on target (not usually the case with most of the TVs I've seen, even my friends Toshiba (non-HD) was way off with it's standard adjustment). I have yet to experience any of the disruptions in power as seen in earlier reviews (my set is a 2001). So until plasma sets come down in price and get a little better in picture the price for this product is just right.
