Strength:

AMAZING LEVEL OF "RED PUSH" alows my color blind friends to see it like the rest of us.

Weakness:

lets see... "RED PUSH" RED PUSH! oh, and a terrible progressive line converter inferior to the ones use by hitachi. Pushy sales guys that get extra's for selling Mitsubishi's compare to other better products.

OK, I had three of these tv;s and they all had problems. First the RED PUSH is ridiculous. Too much to comment on, i can't believe how many idiots gave this set a good review. I have seen no less than ten or twelve of these models up and working in showrooms, my house and friend's houses, they all do it!

The scan converter is crap, and anyone who thinks it is good is stupid. My new hitachi uses a 540line progrssive upconverter and is way better than that 480P mode on the mitsu. The sony is better too.

The viewing angle is terrible, only 110 degrees. My new hitachi has 160 degree viewing angle and looks good from all over thr room. Big improvment.

The mitsu uses 5 element lenses, (15) where as my new hitachi uses 6 element lenses (18) and the results are obvious.

THe focusing system was terrible on the mistu too. It was a low tech, 64 point non digital system. The repair guy told me that is was useless when he came to fix my first two sets. 64 points is a joke compared to my new hitachi that uses 256 points and no less than 8 sensors to get a perfect focus everytime. The mistsu was alwasy out of focus and three sets and two repair guys after weeks of frustration still could not fix this.

I bought this set because the salesman told me it was the best, i believed him, he was good. I later learned that sales people get extra's for selling Mitsubishi's over others and thats why the push them. After making my mistake and all then net surfing i did having no tv i learned about other sets and auditioned the Hitachi. It is the best Tv i have ever seen!!!

If you like only 64 focus points instead of 256, lots of red push, terrible reliability, a lame 110 degree viewing angle instead of a nice 160, and an inferioir 480P line doubler stop reading this and go get a mitsubishi!

If not, check out hitachi.com and compare them spec for spec against mistsu's site. You'll make the right decsion if you see them back to back. I alwasy loved mistsu untill now, i even like them after the second one broke. Three times in three months and a better cheaper competitor;s prod8uct changed me though......

Review for VS-60805
Best picture out there in this price range.
Only the Pioneer Elite is better but 3 times more money.
Customizable inputs, more adjustments than any other tv, great viewing angle vertical and horizontal.

Weakness:

Expensive...Not really...If you want cheaper looking Picture go buy a GE or RCA or Philips.
YES it is built in mexico..guess what so it sony, hitachi, ge, rca, ect. I think the only bigscreen built in Japan is the Panasonic (which was my second choice but same price for 25% smaller screen)
NO lockout for buttons on tv (problem if you have a 2 year old who likes to push buttons)

Like I said I actually own the VS-60805 which is a 60in 4:3 digital TV.

First thing I will tell anyone shopping for a Television is:
GO TO THE STORES AND LOOK AT THEM, LOOK AT THE BACK INPUTS, PLAY WITH THE REMOTE, ADJUST THE SETTINGS.

TRY AND AVOID BUYING A BIGSCREEN ON THE NET OR VIA-MAIL ORDER.

These things are big and heavy but still fragile and they all need calibration. If you buy from the store a guy will go and set it up and calibrate it for you. Those guys have secret codes that allow them to do things you cannot.

On to the Review:
PICTURE
Blows away hitachi, ge, rca, philips, toshiba
The only things that compare are sony (bad experience with new sony tvs) and Panasonic very nice but more money for a smaller TV.
This TV has a built in line doubler which is why you can get up to 2 feet away and not see scan lines. The set has plenty of brightness and color to suit anyone.

SETTINGS ADJUSTMENTS
Menu is easy to use.
Customized settings per input, FANTASTIC!! One of the best features. Why you ask? Because the signal coming from your VCR, Sat, DVD and antenna NEVER MATCH! One will be brighter or another will require more color or one will need the noise reduction.
The trick is to buy the AVIA or Video Essentials calibration DVD use it and try to reproduce the settings on the other inputs. And guess what, chances are that to get the same quality picture you will have to use different settings.

SOUND
Adequate, but hey go buy a surround system

INPUTS
Mine has 6 inputs plenty

QUALITY
Good better than the GE, JVC and Sony Picture tubes I had before (they broke down in less than 2 years each).
When I got my Mits I noticed a purple dot in the middle of the screen. I showed it to the install guy and he changed out the TV the very Next day (this is why you should buy bigscreens from a store).

I only have one complaint, NO lockout for buttons on the TV (problem if you have a 2 year old who likes to push buttons). I ended up taping a piece of wood over the front, crude but effective.

Strength:

Price vs. Performance. A lot of support for tweaks from "The Spot". Mitsubishi guarantee for future HDTV standards. Good format selections for filling the screen with 4:3 input.

Weakness:

64 point convergence versus other manufacturers have more. Some red push, but not bad.

This review is for the 2002 WS55809. Picture looked very good out of the box. I have analog cable and I was surprised how well the picture looked. DVDs look excellent. I only have a interlaced unit, but still the picture is incredible. I have not yet calibrated using AVIA. However I did adjust the convergence - only a few minor tweaks at the top and sides, and turned the SVM to 1. Contrast was turned down, brightness about the same, and sharpness down. Overall, I am well pleased. Good price, great picture, and HDTV capable when I get a HD receiver.

I would recommend the unit to any one. Although the 55" looked big in the show room, it got smaller once in the living room. I probably could have stood a 65" unit, but the pocketbook could not.

64-Point Convergence, Picture quality with a Progressive Scan DVD player is astounding!

I had purchased the Toshiba 40H80 way back in January, good set, but the green gun was defective. I get a replacement unit, that's defective!! The awesome reps at the Tweeter Milford, CT store and thier customer service manager in Mass. agreed to exchange it and I'd pay the difference for this new set.

Let's put it this way, don't buy this set if you have a small place! I don't. After doing the 64-Point convergence after 15 minutes, the picture was sparkling. Just a few average tweaks here and there and your'e ready to go. I must have watched a dozen DVD's on it so far. And I'm not done yet. I highly reccomend this TV if you can afford it! This is for the WS55807 Model.

Strength:

Great looking television right out of the box, exciting and excellent picture with all DVDs.

Weakness:

Resolution and picture detail so good, that it makes VHS and Cable look bad, so many artifacts and problems that come out and expose inferior picture sources.

I am very excited with this product and like it more and more every time I use it. I can't wait for the High Def DSS receiver to be released by Mitsubishi. I have yet to see high def through the TV, but everything that I have seen on it blows me away. I have yet to use Video Essentials on the TV, but the settings let you adjust both the convergence and multi-point convergence as well as automatically setting the picture to 6500 K right off the bat. Anamorphic DVDs look phenominal, so good that the others who watch it are very impressed, and all source material has the ability to be shown as 480p or 960i. Even people who are by no means videophiles, can easily tell that this is a far superior TV to all others on the market in this range! I would highly recommend this TV to anyone looking in the sub $7000 range and the TV has a sticker price of $3999!

Universal remote, IRIS auto adjusting contrast/brightness, multiple video inputs, outstanding picture quality

Having been a home theater enthusiast for over 5 years, I've drooled at the possibility of owning an HDTV compatible tv that was precisely the size of this unit. Thanks to Mitsubishi's recent financing plan (no interest, no payment until Jan 2001!) this dream has now become a reality.

Having owned it less than a week, I have been in awe at the remarkable clean, crisp, clear picture quality. I use to think that DSS video quality was comparable to DVD picture quality in my older RPTV. With this HDTV unit, it really shows every little flaw related to DBS signals (it still is better than analog cable or broadcast though). Watching anamorphic movies such as The Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, and The Prince of Egypt however through first generation Toshiba DVD player using a high quality s-video cable truly makes this TV truly shine.

The picture is nearly film-like. You are able to see every fine detail in Lelu's face as she balances on the edge of the skyscaper in T5E. With ST, you will be hard pressed to see any traces of jagged edges as the bugs invade Klandathu. Finally, the solid colors in TPOE will reveal no traces of artifacts or color saturation normally found on other SDTV units.

I am glad to have waited for the 2nd generation HDTV by Mitsu. I had originally considered the 1st gen Toshiba, Mitsu, and Panasonic units. For nearly $4k, this TV is sure to satisfy most videophiles.

(Can't wait to by a combination ATSC/DirecTV receiver soon.)

Picture quality, lots of inputs, individul input adjustments

Weakness:

does not support 720p

I have been watching this TV for over a month now and i think
it is a great TV, i did the video essentials thing with it and it looks even better, i went a step further and took the protective shield off , in doing that i got rid of the glare and the picture looks better, it has a front projector look, if anyone wants to try that, there are instructions in the manual to do so. I think this TV is among the best out there, and for 4k you can't beat that. I would also like the service codes.

Awesome picture on progressive DVD

Weakness:

Vertical Band (fixed). Not really a good mode for watching 4:3 TV - Not sure any 16:9 TV does, however.

TV is now about 7 weeks old - working fine, but...
Had the dreaded vertical band about 6" from the right.
Had ISF and fix of this yesterday.
What did I learn?
1. Band fix required about an hour and needed both wire re-routing and the ferrite component (took about
an hour). However, the band is gone.
2. Using Video Essentials and/or Avia yourself gets you about 90% of your best picture.
3. About the only thing you can't do yourself from the user menu and the above VE and Avia is the color
temperature matching at high and low white levels. This requires an expensive meter. However the Mits
was quite close from the box. Should be set to 6500. Out of the box was 6450 at the low level, and about
7000 at the high level (mid levels can't be adjusted). After calibration was within 100 at both top and
bottom.
4. After doing #3, the contrast got set to about 30% of the width of the adjustment bar, sharpness about
30% and color and tint exactly in the middle. (Factory settings are way high on both contrast and
sharpness).
5. Great check for color/tint is the redhead woman on VE test patterns (Title 18, Chapter about 20-23).
If she's OK, everything is OK.
6. Convergence check can be done yourself with the set-up menu, as he eyeballed each point, just as you
would.
7. BE SURE to check each input and adjust contrast/sharpness/color/tint on each one, as they are EACH
different out of the box. Anytime you unplug or have a power failure they will revert to the factory settings
(way too high contrast and sharpness) and you will have to readjust them. Tech says the color balance
settings he made will remain OK even if there is a power failure. (My TV inputs that had to be set are OTA
Antenna, DSS (S-Video), and DVD).
THE BIG QUESTION: Did it make a difference?? I'm glad the band is gone. I don't see any difference on
progressive scan DVD, but the local stations are crisper. And, I now know its working as well as it can be.
Was it worth $250? If you have $250 to spare. If that will deny you something else, I would probably just
go with Harry Homeowner VE or Avia adjustments.

nothing to mention

This is my first big screen projection - always had tube
and was even looking at the SONY HD -34 - but I coulded
justify the $$(8000) for only a 34inch . The picture is
great - DVDs look great also - Now I need to get
the Toshiba progressive 5109 and retire the venerable
SONY DSP3000 to the bedroom.
