I have the SWX10B model.I've noticed that during dark scenes in DVD movies where light is eminating from a source, such as a candle burning in in a dark room a green halo appears around the lit object. Also blue and green dots sometimes move randomly accross the screen.Sears has picked up the tv checked checked it out, brought it back and told me thats normal for that tv.I refuse to believe that it's normal.Has anyone else experienced this problem?.

Great all around picture to include CAble DVD and VHS

Weakness:

Bought 53UWX10B from sears before i read the reviews love it has a great piocture even with cable, some reviews say it has a dad picture from the cable I disagree I used RCA gold coated coax cables one from my wall to my cable box and another fromthe cable box to the TV, grat pic as good as my Hitachi 35 inch tube which I thought had a great picture. I also used RCA gold monster cables for my DVD and VHS and my cable box audio to my stero, works great. Easy to set up just need to tweek the picture setting to your personnel pref. As far as the magic focus goes some people said it did not work well I have had zero problems with mine got it home hooked the TV up let it warm up 20 min as per the dirrections Did the magic focus thig in all the setting movie sport news ect. then on a sport channel witth a DVD and a VHS, sears said the only time you really need to do the magic focus thing is when you move the TV it self and if the pic starts to look blurry. I did the magic focus 3 Mth ago and had zero problems or any need to use it yet and have a great picture. As for the channel vahnge being slow this is true but i go thru my cable box and the problem goes away, but when i use my ANT B selection for PIP which does not goe thru my cable box yeat it is slow but i do not use my PIP that much. Sound is ok but not great I fix this buy running thru my JVC stero and suround sound speakers a cheap fix to a small problem since i already had the stero and the speekers. As far as not being able to read CNN or ESPN score tickers on the bottom of the screen if you whatch the TV in Smooth wide this problems goes away and if it still does not read your owners manual and ajust your picture center. It took me about one hour to have every thing hooked up adjusted and ready to go . would recomend this TV to any one price and qulity is great.

Strength:

Bright clear picture Very easy to use and change screen aspects

Weakness:

Soundg

Very good picture for rear projection tv especially with DVD''s. With Dish 501 Satellite, it is better than I expected after reading other reviews and I will probably upgrade to HDTV next year. Most of the reviews that I read before purchasing this model were very helpful. I would recommend this TV to anyone, its definately the best picture for the money. The only drawback is the sound quality and I get around this by going through my sony receiver for quality sound.

This is a response to the reviewer who said that a progressive scan DVD player was unnecessary. This is correct because Hitachi has included the circuitry for 3:2 pulldown within the Television. This means that the Hitachi has a built in deinterlacer, including a film mode that is activated when you select Movie Mode on the Theater Menu. Hence, the Hitachi will convert normal television signals into 480p, and will also convert signals that were converted from 24 FPS film to 60 fps interlaced back to 24 fps using 3:2 pulldown. This is a great feature, and makes a progressive scan DVD player redundant.

Strength:

Crystal clear picture, warranty, price

Weakness:

Words scrolling across at bottom of screen cannot see like on CNN (adjustment problem???)

We bought this HDTV from Circuit City. It was a floor model and got it at such a "steal" we couldn''t pass up. We purchased the extended warranty for an extra 3 years for the same price we could have one in the box. This HDTV is EXCELLENT!! The picture is crystal clear and sound is wonderful. There is a major difference between the High Definition and the other two, Analog & Digital. The warranty that comes with this, purchased extra or not, also sold us on this. We could not have been more pleased with this. Watching football or nascar racing is like having it right there in your room. The only problem we have with this set is words scrolling across on the bottom of the screen like watching CNN is not visible. Some people may find this a problem, but I''m sure it''s just something we haven''t found out how to adjust yet.

i purchased the 53UWX10b at Circuit and i have loved it i have a sony s360 dvd player and was recently going to upgrade to a progressive scan dvd player when i was told by Hitachi that PROGRESSIVE SCAN DVD PLAYERS are not needed with this model because it has full-time progressive scna built int o the television set...I was floored i had no idea this was true and even the guys at circuit city and best buy tried to convince this was not true but until i read somewhere else i am going to trusty hitachi...anways i also use monster 3 cables for the hook ups on my dvd and have an onlyno 595 dts dolby diigal amp and the bose am-6 speakers for surround sound this hitachi brings out the best in all of my products and i could not be more satisfied....especially at the price circuit city gave me on the set if anyone has any info on progressive scan and this set i would appreciate it thanks...Will

Just so you know I bought a Sony 57 for about $700 under the sale price, my friend bought the hitachi for $2100, added a surround system w/ DVD and Receiver for another $450 - out the door for $2550 + tax. So stop paying 3400 at sears. We did get two tv''s at once to get a great price but still could have got it for about the same with some negotiating.

Strength:

Bright, punchy picture. Vibrant colors and excellent resolution w/ dvds. Remote is great!

Weakness:

It takes the MAgic Focus a few tries to get everything lined
up. Tweaking through internal grid necessary to line up
everything precisely. Greenish tint to dark portions of picture - resolved through service menu adjustment.

I initially picked the demo unit to take home but CC made
a mistake on the pricing placard as it listed another model in the fine print. Therefore, I got brand new unit for
the demo's price (about $250 less than listed). Two weeks
later they made the same mistake and I got them to price match my purchase for an additional $150 off. Once it
arrived at my home, the Magic Focus did not align correctly
as I didn't let the set warm up at least 1/2 hour (very important!). It is necessary to have entire screen utilized for Magic Focus to work properly. I used a football telecast in smooth wide mode to do so. Then I used an anamorphic DVD and did the same. I finally tweaked it
by accessing the service mode and convergence is now dead on. The set also exhibited a greenish tint in the darker
portions of scenes (e.g. underwater scenes in The Hunt...Red October and The Phantom Menace in which the overall look should be bluish)which I corrected through the
service menu( a little research on the net will show you how). Using the Avia calibration DVD, I was able to correct
for any red push. The internal line doubler seems to work quite well but an external one would be better for analog
or satellite if you find it the minor artifacting distracting. By and all, this is an very good HDTV out of the box and a outstanding bargain once tweaked. What
initial reservations I had purchasing this unit have been replaced by great pleasure when watching a widescreen dvd.

I was finally successful

Strength:

Great Picture, Easy to set up and use

Weakness:

No Dolby or DTS

TV gives as good as possible picture in standard and DVD's are amazing, not enough shows in HDTV for me to spend the cash now but look foward to next years superbowl in HDTV.
At first I was disapointed that the TV does not support Dolby or DTS. The adds for the TV mislead you by talking about "bbe sound" and other crap that they have added.
I connected the satallite receiver and DVD directly to my Denon A/V receiver and now I do have digital sound.

I would recommend this TV to anyone that is making it part of a Home Theater, using an A/V receiver connected as I have.

If you are simply connecting rear speakers to the TV for surround, I do not remember the model # but spend the extra $'s and go Dolby digital.

Strength:

Price, 6 High Brightness CRTs with 8 convergence points

Weakness:

cabinet depth (29inches), lack of manual convergence mode

This is a review for the 53 SWX 10B. After 3 weeks of shopping and comparing, finally had to decide between the UWX and SWX Hitachi. Both are excellent with very bright pictures compared to the Sony or Mitsu's, but the SWX has a slightly cleaner resolution which is noticeable when used with a good progressive DVD player (I have it hooked via component cables and Toslink to a Panasonic RP91; also excellent). Both sets need a good satellite signal (>95%) for a clean picture without frame wobble/pixelation. The vibrant colors put the others to shame. Hitachi High Brightness CRTs work well in brightly lit rooms as well (don't even try it with a Sony).

Sears sales and delivery were excellent with a competitive price-matching system.
