Strength:

Solid DEEP base, well controlled and room shakeing if needed. Also the remote controle to fine tune the volume of the sum

Weakness:

Non Yet

This is one mean sub...The price is a bit high but I don't think you will get real flate deep base down tow 20 cycles unless you spend this kind of money. I am a pipe organ freak when it comes to music and love the way this sub handles it well...It is reall great in HT and does a great job in music too...The real plus is the remote that comes with it so you can fine tune it's volume where you sit...This is a real plus with a sub that goes down so low...It allow you to adjust the base as needed...this is one great subwoofer that really is a true sub...

Strength:

Beautiful Sub, Phenomenal Performance.....very fast, extremely smooth.

Weakness:

Heavy, Expensive, Still trying to get things in the room from vibrating. Needs a long break in period.

Well, for your average $2700 bucks it doesnt get much better than this....Actually let me rephrase that. It doesnt get any better than this. I listened to an HGS 18 as well, but you know what. I wont ever have a room that big. My HGS 15 gives me 3 times more than i'll ever need. It comes with a accelerometer and a 3000Watt Peak amp.
Remote and the prettiest glossy box you've ever seen. All my friends were quite impressed and yes this sub can do structural damage if set too high.
Only warning is careful about listening to them. If you hear a bad one or one that doesnt blow you away, it is most likely because it takes a while for these things to break in. The first day i was mad at my purchase, by the 5th day, i was in subwoofer ecstacy. Enjoy for those of you who shell it out for this one. Its worth every penny and i Doubt you'll disagree. This is the kind of sub that all others are measured by.

Strength:

Very deep heart felt bass, no after shock it stops when it's supposed to.

Weakness:

placing it and not showing off it's great finish

Using a set of Jensen15 speakers in the front which have very good low end, this sub added the super low end I was missing in movies. T2 is really awesome, the Eagles Hell Freezes Over dvd( Hotel Calf.)thumps right thru you. United Audio is selling these New at agreat price get-em while their there.

Strength:

Controlled, fast, deep bass in reasonable size

Weakness:

Expensive, noisy

I do not own this speaker. I have been looking for a good sub recently and have evaluated several in stores and in my home. Compared with the Sunfires (10" and 12") and HGS-12 in my home, I liked the HGS-15 the best. It did a good job of giving me deep bass, cleanly, at a satisfying level. It also had good control - fast attacks, not boomy, and didn't hang-on after the sound should end. It was excellent with both music and movies.

My main speakers are Snells with fast, tight bass and prefer bass this way. The Sunfire seemed a hair behind the music, both getting going and ending, perhaps due to the passive radiator. The HGSD-12 seemed to be working too hard.

Sadly, I will probably not be buying this sub. It has excessive high frequency noise (not hum) that is just irritating once you realize it is there. It is present at a constant level regardless of input source (even shorted), or the settings of the gain, phase, cut-off frequency controls. I have talked with Velodyne about it and tried a second unit (it was actually worse), but is seems the nature of their beast. I just can't bring myself to pay $2500 to add a little low end to my system and noticeably degrade the noise floor of the rest of the spectrum of my system (it is at least 2-3 times noisier than the rest of my system). It might have been better if the driver was not pointing directly at the listening position (15 feet away), but I didn't try that and don't know what the effect would have been on bass performance.

Velodyne is in denial on this issue. I really hope they get this under control someday, because other than this fatal (for me) flaw, I thought the sub-woofer characteristics were great.

Strength:

Deep, clean, powerful bass. Goes all the way down to 20hz with ease.

Weakness:

Easy to overdrive. Was evicted from apartment because of this sub!

Unfortunately I don't have the room for two HGS-18's but these fit the bill quite nicley. They are fairly easy to setup but you have to be careful with the volume knob (I only have mine at 3 dots). If you are looking for the type of bass you hear at nightclubs, look elsewear. They only produce tight, accurate, musical bass. I was kicked out of my apartment because of these two beasts, but I now live in a house and life is good! Shop around for these subs to get a good deal, don't get stuck paying the $2500 they retail for. I love my two HGS-15's and wouldn't trade them for anything!

Strength:

the best sub ever! (except for the the HGS-18)

Weakness:

its heavy! (that really a good thing)

I have notice a few people have mentioned that this sub has noise problems. Ummmm what? I have owned this sub for quite while, and have had no problems. I have a friend who owns and HGS 12 and another who owns and HGS-18 (2 in fact) and they have had no problems either. If people have noise issues, that could be introduced by poor processing, long lengths of interconnect, or poorly sheilded interconnect. I have had mine hooked up via the single ended and via the balnced inputs, 2 meters long, using "Transparent" brand cables (my favorites) and have had flawless operation. Aside from all that, I think this is the 3rd best sub known to man. the only two better are the Velodyne HGS-18, and the KRELL Master Reference Sub (HOLY EXPLETIVE!). I could have got the HGS-15 but it was just a tad to big for my apartment. Considering the price and performance of the 15, you could make a case for it as the best sub on the market. As for sunfire, it is complete and total garbage in my opinion. If you want a small sub get the HGS-12 its the same size as the sunfire and it pounds the sunfire into the ground. People who think 2 grand or more is way to much for a sub are... well... wrong.

Strength:

Soul shattering bass. Zero distortion.

Weakness:

I need 1 more of these...

I'm not an audiophile. But I have heard quite a few subs in my day. No sub I've ever heard compares to the HGS-15. This is the most accurate, smooth, beautiful sub I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. I've had mine for a little over a week now and it's finally getting broken in. The HGS-15 has added a new dimension to my movie watching experience. I took a big leap from my previous sub, a Velodyne CT-150, to the HGS-15 and I'm very happy I made the switch. The HGS-15 seemingly has no end. During scenes in Star Wars: Episode 1 where my other sub would "top out", the HGS-15 extends deep and clean to levels I didn't even know the soundtrack went to, and that's just one example. I'm extremely pleased...highly recommended!

Strength:

Power, precision

Weakness:

only gloss finish (no wood option)

I loved my Infinity SSW212 and was distraught when it died. I use my sub only for HT as my fronts are full range and sound just fine on music alone (Dynaudio 72s)

On my quest, I listened to many subs in stores and auditioned 4 in my house. The HGS-15 was the only one able to fill my room effortlessly (12x20 and open doorways). In fact, it can shake the whole house effortlessly. Furthermore, it is even more accurate than my previous Infinity (also a servo mech). Though the Dynaudio sounded ok at low volumes, it could not keep up when the signal and volume turned up - just became mud. Same for Sunfire and HGS-10. I seriously considered REL products based on what I've read, but the nearest dealer was more than 300 miles away and decided against it.

The HGS-15 goes right through you. Check out the Pod race on Episode 1 and the Lobby Shooting Spree on Matrix. I was afraid the 15in woofer would be too slow, but it is unbelievable.
