Strength:

Merky Deep Bass! Very powerful! Tight, solid. Price!

Weakness:

Size. Not being able to listen before buying. Waiting.

My Sub finally arrived on Dec 31st. Hooray. I called it a day at work and headed home to play. It was nicely packed. I couldn't unpack it fast enough. I uninstalled my AudioSource SWfifteen, and made room for my UPGRADE! Took me seconds to plug it in and ready for the test-n-tune. ( Ya right!, like I'm going to test-n-tune before I listen to this bad boy). After listening to it (even before tuning it) Oh My God that thing rocks! I obviously bought allot more sub than I need, ALLOT!, but being a bass junky, I think I can deal with it ;o). It's behemoth and was hard to find a good spot in my HT but none the less that baby is incredible. I found the spot where it will live, dialed it in with my handy dandy Radio Shack SPL meter (used the AVIA Disk) and settled down for some serious demo time. I tried about 20 audio disks and found that the PB2+ had so mukin futch bass that I hardly needed to turn up the gain past 9 O'clock (I run a pair of NHT 2.9s as fronts). Then I switched to some DVD's. When I read the reviews about how it shakes the couch and rattles the pictures and other objects in the house I thought that I could appreciate that, being my Audio Source SWfififteen does all of that. Boy I had no idea! The reviews were understating the couch moving and the pictures rattling. Someone who has never experienced a SUPER SUB is incapable of imagining what this thing can do. At one point I had my system at my reference level (about 95db) and realized I had my AV unit set to Standard output rather than Max, so during a segment of Lord Of the Rings, I made the switch. At the precise time I made the switch there was a clash of and Ork and an Elf! I almost had a heart attack, It scared the HeLL out of me. I felt like I had been assaulted, wronged, or defiled! A couple seconds later all that went away and I grinned from ear to ear and said to myself OMG! I need someone else to hear (feel) this thing. I called my brother (audiophile with a Velodyne HGS18) told him to get on over hear fer a demo. He was very impressed and now wants to bring his Velodyne over for some A-B comparisons. I've heard the Velodyne and up until I heard the SVS I had no doubt that the Velodyne is 2nd to none. Well I'm not so sure about that anymore. Especially for the price! I never thought that a sub could produce such ultra low bass with anything less than a 15" driver. Boy was I wrong! I was going to build my own sub and while researching components, I accidentally ran across the SVS website (lucky me). My brother is a high end cabinet maker and my other brother owns and operates an electronics shop, so I felt that we could design and make a WORTHY Super-Sub. Had I built the sub I was going to, it would have cost me just about the same as the PB2+. After reading the reviews and weighing the R&D that SVS has put into their product, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to own a WORLDCLASS sub. I decided not to attempt a DIY sub and try the SVS. I'm so glad I went with the SVS. Having only owned it for less than a week, and still getting to know the sub, I am impressed, amazed and thrilled to have it in my system. There is NO-ONE out there that has tighter, cleaner and deeper bass than I have! I tried it at 25hz, 20 and 16hz and found the Merky lows (16hz)is where I want to live. I run a Yamaho RX995 AV (as preamp) with AMC 5 channel amp, Pioneer DVD, NHT 2.9s (bi-amp'd with NHT SA-3 as fronts), NHT AC-1 Center, NHT Super Ones (rears). The sub blends seemlesly with my NHTs. At least I think so. I have no doubt that I would have been pleased with one of SVS's smaller subs, but I have a PB2+. I guess I will have to buy a bigger house with a bigger HT room.

Tout, vraiment tout...

Weakness:

Strength:

Service, quality, power, and ease of set-up. SVS goes the extra mile. Immediately after opening the superb packaging, you know this is quality stuff. Comes set on a quality pallet looking thing, surrounded by quality padding. The delivery is flawless--the guy even helped me move the unit into the house. Power is endless and you can tune the unit three ways by blocking or unblocking three ports with supplied plugs--easy to do.

Weakness:

None that I can find. Impossible to find anything close at around $1,199. Velodyne, Klipsh, JBL, and others watch out. The word's getting out.

I am so happy I made the choice and went with SVS, especially the PB2+. Initially in doubt about buying, albeit an outstanding rated product in everything I've read but, relatively unknown to me. I knew Velodyne and Klipsh were good and thought I'd get one of these. The PB2+ rocks, 150 pounds of quality and power. I've never seen or heard anything close to it except in the multi-thousand dollar range. Then the Velodyne compared decently. I'm in the military and had an older Sony ES pre-amp/amp system bought while I was stationed in Japan in the 70s. Was time to upgrade to full digital Home Theater multi-channel sound i.e. THX, PLII, etc. and had bought a Denon AVR 4802R Receiver and Denon high-end DVD player. I already had great speakers but needed a good subwoofer to take advantage of LFE and various new home theater modes. I had my heart set on a Velodyne or maybe a Klipsh in the $1000 to $1500 range. I found the SVS site, read the reviews, and made the choice to go with SVS--I'm sure glad I did. I thought there was some risk, there is none. Read the reviews, read the reviews. Equally important to the outstanding sound and quality of the PB2+, is service after the sale. SVS is outstanding. Ron, Erik, and Tom will "spoon feed" you until you've received the unit and have it happily set up. The PB2+ is powerful, easy to use, and adjustble with three tuning ports down to 16HZ. Movies and music have never sounded to good. I'd have paid twice as much for this. Velodyne isn't even close unless you pay at least 2X what I paid for the SVS PB2+. I did go to local vendors and listened to high-end Velodynes/Klipshs and asked salespeople pointed questions on SVS. All had great things to say about SVS--all knew about SVS and were careful in comparing their product to SVS. The unit is big but would fit in nicely anywhere--you can put things on it vs the outstanding cylinder subs SVS is famous for. The finish is a quality, black, hard to damage service. Has an auto feature that turns it on and off when bass signals are present. Takes two people to move the unit around though. You would expect weight with something of quality. As mentioned, equally important is service. SVS backs their stuff. I had problems with UPS. No problem, SVS took care of the the problem with minimal disruption to me. Had me another unit out in days. You can pay more but why? Read the reviews. They're definitely not wrong. You can't go wrong with any of the SVS products.

My 1st true sub but have done extensive research prior to going with SVS. Visited all the high-end home/theater stores in the Washing DC, Northern Virginia area. I've listened to the "really expensive" subs, they don't sound as good or appear as high-quality as the SVS PB2+. Why did I go with SVS and wasn't it risky? Maybe a little risky but only because I wasn't familiar with SVS, but read the reviews, read the reviews. You can't go wrong.

Strength:

Quickness, Speed, Impact, and just plain LOUD! Blends will with my Magneplanar IIIa's

Weakness:

I life will be short lived, so I might as well enjoy it. My wife returns next Wednesday.

I wanted more SPL than my antiquated 1997 Velodyne ULD-15 (400 watt with feedback accelerometer) was putting out. The PB2 plus has a bigger box, more speaker area, and has more than twice the power. My only concern was distortion at high volumes in a 2200 cubic ft listening space. I received the unit last friday and have yet to use the recommended sound pressure level meter to properly do the set up. I started with no port plugs and found that a single plug works best in my environment. Listening tests were mostly SACDs and DVD video. I was concerned that trading up from a 1997 Velodyne to the SVS PB2-Plus would result in little improvement. In my mind, I was trading more SPL for more harmonic distortion. On this point, I was and am greatly mistaken, the SVS quickly dispensed with my reservations and left the Velodyne behind in SPL, low distortion, overall visceral impact. (Yes, my socks are blown clear into the next room!) With the Velodyne, I thought the room was limited to the maximum SPL's it could support, I was wrong on this point as the PB2-Plus, effortlessly, moved air, earth, furniture and my two corgies (dogs). Yes, it was worth the wait! I can't wait to try more DVD's and SACD's.

Strength:

Bass...AWESOME BASS!!! like you've never heard of felt before.

Weakness:

BIG and Heavy!!

Had the PDR10 for a couple of years, but my system always seemed to be lacking something. I thought it may be the main speakers or the receiver causing my problem. I asked a question regarding my problem on a few forums and all replies said "get a bigger sub!" So I searched, read many reviews and auditioned a few. But none really impressed me...especially to be spending a grand or more. SVS kept coming up in the reveiws I was reading, I posted questions based on hte ways I want to hear and feel the bass, the reply all pointed toward SVS...o.k., so now which model? At 1st I was leaning toward 25-31+ but could get WAF on the cylinders. Next were the boxes, these were a bit more exceptable...but couldn't decide on the PB1-ISD or the PB2+. After e-mailing with Tom at SVS I decided on the PB2. When it finally got delivered I could not believe the size of the thing, it's just plain huge!...there's no way around it. I hooked it up, calibrated and was in awe of the bass I felt, but was a bit boomy. Moved it 4 more times(no easy feat@150lbs)till I found the best location. I couldn't believe the sounds I was missing with the PDR10. By adding the sub it made my whole setup sound better.

Strength:

Excellent bass response, good value, and well constructed. Very flexible in set-up (can easily tune for extended response, maximum output, or compromise of the two). Woofers extremely well protected (electronically w/variable subsonic filter; physically as located between cabinet and built-in bass). Very easy to acoustically blend with existing speakers.

Weakness:

Big, big, and big. Did I say big? Cabinet is somewhat "industrial" looking (OK by me, but this is NOT a piece of furniture).

Purchased on July 3rd to replace an AR SW30. Using this sub in a LARGE (9000 ft^3 room). While the AR served me well, I wanted to FEEL the bass rather than just hear it, and I could never get a good tactile bass response with the AR in this room. Purchased this model after reviewing many others (primarily Hsu Research, Velodyne, and other models at SVS). I was concerned with Hsu tube models as I have 3 small kids; concerned that the tube models are top heavy, the woofer is exposed, and the amp is outboard rather than built-in (read: protected) in the speaker. Also, while a tube takes up less space and is a very efficient design (also used by SVS), they're not easy to hide! This was more than I planned to spend, but decided to spend the $$$ after several E-mails / responses from Tom at SVS. At first, even after following calibration instructions, I was disappointed. Seemed to provide less "bass" than the AR it replaced! The key is that my previous sub overemphasized the upper bass, while the PB-2+ does not. Play a track with REAL low bass, and this sub really shines. A good example is the "sock scene" on Monsters, Inc. You could hear a muffled explosion with the AR; you can FEEL it with the PB-2+ (rattles glasses / pictures in the room). The sub blends in with my main speakers (Boston VR950's / VR-10 center / A-40 II's in the rear) much better than the AR. Crossing over at 100 Hz at the receiver (all other speakers sent to small), I still had to use the low-pass with the AR to reduce the "boominess" in the upper bass. With the PB-2+, am running in bypass mode on the sub with excellent blending. Using in 16 Hz (extended range) mode with one port blocked, as I don't typically listen to music or movies at concert-like levels, and am more interested in extended, smooth bass response than absolute level. In a small room, this sub is probably overkill unless you play REALLY loud. It is a LARGE sub, so check with your significant other before buying (you won't hide it easily).

after rreading and researching reviews on http://www.hometheaterspot.com and on http://www.hometheaterforum.com , i decided to purchase the pb2-plus from svs. i had spent over one year researching and listening to subs ranging from 110 dollars to 3500 dolars, and i was looking to spend in the 1000 dollar range since most subs i had previewed in this range were providing the most bang for the buck. so, after recieving the pb2 plus, i was pleasantly suprised. then, after tweaking the controls, turning up the gain a little` i blew myself away. my wife had straightened the big picture on the wall twice and then said to me, it must be the subwoofer that is moving it. she also said when watching phonebooth on dvd that she felt the couch shake. this is solid performance. i not only wanted to hear the sub, but also wanted to feel the sub - and this pb2 plus provides that. you can return the sub anytime up until 45 days, but no one has yet to do this, because they love their SVS purchases. every movie we watch brings on new and grand experiences with the pb2 plus - highly recommended.

Strength:

So low and so loud, and oh so very clean sounding. When it calls for the bass to end/stop, it does RIGHT NOW. It will stop on a dime ! Seriously !

Weakness:

There are none !

This is without a doubt the only sub to consider if you are spending 2500.00 or less, and guess what, you get it today for HALF that price, 1199.00 plus only 50.00 shipping ! So buy 2! How does SVS do it so cheap? I can tell you. They cut out the middle man. Most retailers double what they pay for items and call that retail. SVS eliminates the retailer and sells it DIRECT to you, that way, there is not another mark up to support another business. Also, I have never dealt with a company as concerned with a customers satisfaction as SVS is. Now to the sub. UNBELIEVABLE,AWESOME,LOUD AND LOW AND JUST PLAIN GORGEOUS TO LOOK AT ! I have sent every kind of low bass thru this baby and it has never bottomed out. My pant legs have been moved at certain scenes. Sometimes, like the exploding sock in "MONSTERS INC.", it feels as tho the rooms walls are bowing out. I can NOT say enough good about this sub. Don't believe it?, don't take my word for it, order one risk free. If you are not 110% satisfied with the purchase, you have 45 days to return it. Beat that !
