Strength:

Great upgrade. Improved sound quality of bass.
Easy retrofit.

Weakness:

None

I upgraded my SVS PB12-plus/2 to the new 12.3 subwoofers.

I must say there is a marked improvement in bass tightness, bass is fuller and more authoritative.

It made an already excellent sub better.

My sub is the 2005 model. It already sounded great but SVS is offering the upgrade kit previous owners of the sub for $99 each for a limited time. I bought two. The retrofit kit was easy to install with clear instructions included with the sub on how to retrofit.

SVS started shipping new subs with the new 12.3 subs in March or April of this year. Check with SVS before you buy the upgrade kit to see if you already have the new subs.

I am quite pleased with the upgrade.

Strength:

Improved performance of SVS PB12-plus/2 sub.
Easy retrofit.

Weakness:

None.

I upgraded the subwoofers on my SVS PB12-plus/2 from the 12.2 to the 12.3's. The new 12.3 subs are cleaner, tigher bass with more body. It is an improvement in bass quality but the baseline plus/2 with the 12.2's are still good sounding. Great sound got better.

The retrofit of the sub was very easy and the instructions were very clear. No issue with retrofitting if your handy with simple tools.

I paid $99 each for the subs from SVS. Special limited time offer for previous owners of /2's who are interested in the upgrade.

If you bought your sub in April or later of this year, 2006, you already have the new 12.3 subs. I believe they started shipping subs in March, early April of this year with the upgrades. Check with SVS if you already have the upgrades before you buy these.

Craftmanship and attention to detail is unbeleivable even at twice this price!
900 Watt Bash Amp is more powerful than other subs I've owned with bash amps with twice the wattage!
Driver technology is unmatched in any sub you can buy in a brick & mortar store at 3 grand and down.
Best performance to cost ratio I've ever seen with any product.
Impeccable customer service 24/7
Most powerful, best sounding with lots of headroom left Subwoofer I've ever heard. Nothing even comes close.

Weakness:

Others will say its size, but you simply cannot get this kind of bass with a smaller cabinet. Its simple physics.

This is my second personal purchase from SVS, and with demonstrations, two others (so far) have bought their products from SVS as well and I have many demo's to go.
Most other PB12/Plus owners have pretty much covered what this subwoofers potentials are, and this review is really more so to confirm what others have said.
First off, I must say that this subwoofer (and all other SV Subs) plays and sounds different than any subwoofer you will hear at your local HI-Fi store, so with that said, I wanted to talk about what and why SVS's subs sound so different and so much better in many respects.
In order to convey what Im trying to say, what most audio/home theatre enthusiast look for when they are auditioning a sub is that all impressive low rumble at fairly loud volumes. I mainly use my sub for home theatre to extend the low end for todays new heavily bass encoded movies such as the typical LOTR's, SW's (all episodes) and one of the newest being War Of The Worlds which is a great demo DVD if you want to expose any of the typical sub brands that most will listen to such as Klipsch RSW-12 or 15 and THX series, Infinity's SW-12, Polk, Def Tech, Velodyne,Sunfire, B&W and a couple of other internet based only sellers Axiom & HSU. The only Subwoofer that really competes with SVS IMO, is Velodyne's Digital series which will cost you 3-4X as much as the equal SVS model. As I said in my previous review of the SVS 25/31isd, once you plug in your SVS and hear what TRUE bass sounds like ( it will be the 1st time for many of you), you will be astonished at what you've been missing! It was eye opening for me anyway. Most of the sub brands mentioned above are all decent subwoofers for the average listener, and will still "WOW" you if you will, with that heavy boom sound in the 30Hz and above range, so Im not by any means trying to bash the competition. So if you own one of the above, or a brand I may not of mentioned and are happy with it, then kudos to you! But.... again, if you want to experience bass as it was intended to be experienced, then read on....
First I (like many on this site) was a little sceptical about buying a subwoofer at any price from a brand/company that started less than 10 years ago. But, after much research on SV Sound's two co-founders Tod Vodhanel & Ron Stimpson, I became hooked on LFE and how it works. These two gentlemen are by far some of the most knowledgeable people I have ever read about. Countless forums will say the same, as does their own web based company www.svsubwoofers.com. Just by reading and exploring their website, you will soon be hooked as I was. The PB12/Plus2 is (surprisingly) their top of the middle of the line (see svs.com to make sense of this), which leaves me wondering how in the world could they improve upon what I consider the best subwoofer I've ever heard hands down. The PB12/plus2 will bring out even the slightest subtle bass on anything you play be it a movie or music. It (especially once its calibrated) simply picks right up where your main speakers start to drop off which is usually anywhere from the 40-55Hz range, all the way down to 16Hz if you decide to use both port plugs provided. As this sub has three 4" ports that flare out to about 6 1/2" to move tremendous amounts of air. My listening space is about 2800 cubic feet, and the PB12/plus2 can pressurize it with little to no effort at all. It really is amazing. After experimenting with my PB12/plus2 over the past couple of weeks with all sorts of music and heavily encoded LFE movies I have come to one conclusion. It has more power than I will ever need, and it sounds fantastic no matter what you throw at it! They say corner placement is the best for a sub for obvious reasons, but the PB12/plus2 can be positioned anywhere and I garauntee it won't matter.
If you don't buy an SPL meter and the AVIA disk (which I highly recommend) which you can buy on svs.com with your sub, and they wont charge you for shipping, then the next best way to try to calibrate your system imo, is turn your receiver's subwoofer volume all the way down (on my Denon-3805 its -12), set your receivers XO to 80Hz and bypass the XO on the back of the sub, then turn your subs volume up to about 25% (9:00 position), put in a good source for bass such as a D.D. or dts DVD, and then slowly turn up the subs volume on the receiver to what sounds good to you. Remember this, the PB12/plus2's amplifier is 900 real world watts, so it is very sensitive (powerful) and you will find that at 20-30% of its volume (depending on the room ofcourse) should be more than sufficient. As many have mentioned on countless reviews, the service at SVS is unmatched by any company period! Either Erik, Ron, Todd and the rest of the SVS team will answer anything you throw at them in a timely and professional manner. As far as Im concerned, after buying two subwoofers, and ordering other products for my friends (including the incredible SBS-01 5.1 system), they are the Farari in product (at any price) with the knowledge and professionalism to match! If your still on the fence about what subwoofer to buy, atleast narrow it down as to which SVS model is for you, and be done with it! Your expectations will be exceeded! Mine were!

Customer Service

As mentioned above, you simply wont find customer service like this anywhere today other than SVS.
You have questions about any brand subwoofer, and they will kindly answer your question, as this is their passion.
If you need help setting up your SVS sub with your system, they will walk you through it until its done.
45 day no questions asked return policy
It simply doesn't get any better than SVS.

IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THE BEST SUBWOOFER ON THIS PLANET. MY DREAM CAME THROUGH ON MAY 23, 2006. I WAS STUNNED WHEN I FIRST UNPACKED THIS PRODUCT AND COULDN'T BELIEVED WHAT I SAW. CRAFMANSHIP FOR PIANO GLOSS FINISH IS ABSOLUTELY SUPREME. THE QUALITY, STANDARD AND PERFORMANCE FOR THIS SUB IS IMMEASURABLE. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT TO ANYONE WHO WANTS DEEP, PRECISE POWERFUL BASS FOR BOTH MUSIC AND MOVIES.

MUSIC IS MY PASSION AND I DON'T CARE IF I PAID ADDITIONAL CAD$400 CUSTOMS DUTIES AND TARIFFS FOR THE RELEASE OF MY DREAM SUBWOOFER.

Strength:

Flexibility, built well, heavy, ungodly great bass! Don't expect it to be musical right out of the box. It's built in controls (flexibility) allows it to match many different environments and speakers. You just have to heed the advice in the manual and set it up properly.

Weakness:

WAF, (Wife Acceptance Factor) but just get over it.

The PB12/Plus2 is everything most everyone says here and then some. Believe it or not I found it to be very flexible. Just takes some experimenting to get it dialed in for your personal preference. Suggest experimenting with the settings on both music and movies.

My basement area, where the home theater is, is about 900 sq. ft. Unfortunately, it was finished before I moved in. This sub makes you want to try and soundproof the walls, ceiling and floor to try and limit the noises that anything and everything that can rattle in the basement and the floor above can make. But well worth it! I have upgraded several times over the past 3 years and this was by far the biggest bang for the buck. I used it in the 16hz mode for a short while and it flat put the fear in me that something was going to come undone. My house, not the sub. My teenage son and his friends love to party over here. I've had kids literally get the bejesus scared out of them when this thing goes to work!

I strongly recommend proper set up (read and research on the net how to do this)and then several weeks later fiddling with the settings again. Big, well built, lots of wow factor, low WAF though (except for when the movies go on), heavy and with lots of personality. Corners really set this thing off. Do not recommend for apartment dwellers unless you have very understanding tenants. One sub in my basement area works great. Heard lots of other brands but nothing else can repeat another reviewers comment - "Something wicked this way comes"!

Deep, powerful bass. Customer service is excellent. Packaging was the best I've ever seen. Textrued black looks great (my opinion). Value for the money!

Weakness:

None.

I had never heard of SVS before CES 2006 where I was fortunate enough to meet the SVS guys and listen to some of their subs. The PB-12 Plus/2 is simply a great sub for the price. Deep deep bass and very powerful. I'll try not to repeat to much of what has already been said. I want to add that the textured black is actually quite nice. The build quality overall is excellent. Also, the size is not to big in my opinion. If you have a very small home theatre (smaller then 10'x10') this sub would look big but then again, a theatre that small would not require this sub (way overkill).

Weakness:

Size

When I first unpacked this monster, I was taken back by the size. (Very nice packing material by the way) However, after I situated it in the corner of my room, it wasn't all that bad looking. By the way, some people complain about the weight, but who moves their sub around the room everyday. Also, I think the weight actually helps this sub perform. I actually have pictures in frames on top of the SVS, and they don't rattle off. That's how well built this thing is. But, looks are not what I was after, Bass was the name of the game, and SVS delivers. I simply could not believe the power and response this sub has. I tried every DVD is my arsenal (Both movies and Music concerts) to bottom the sub out. I couldn't do it. It actually got to the point where I couldn't risk my sliding glass doors breaking before I turned it down. The SVS still had no signs of bottoming out. From all six Star Wars to Monsters, inc. The Eagles and Metallica, this thing really performs. Tight and clean bass. This is bass that you will not only hear, but will feel. In my opinion, this is the best sub at any price range. I must admit that I never tried an $8000 sub woofer before, but If it were to perform even better than the SVS, then I would have to go outside to listen to it. It might knock you off the couch.

This is the second SVS product that I have owned. Like the first (20/39PCI),this subwoofer is excellent. It requires setup with a spl meter and a good calibration dvd. Once done, the bass from this thing is very impressive. I have used it both with music and Home Theater and with both it will bring a smile to your face. Like everyone has said, it is large, but it is large in an impressive way. I have no doubts that cranked up, this thing would knock pictures off all the walls in your house.

Weakness:

Huge and heavy but I have a dedicated theater so that doesn't matter

Right off the bat I want to say that I am 90% for home theater. I have heard many subwoofers. This is the most accurate and powerful sub I have ever heard. I work next to the highway and when tractor trailers go by I can feel them. Well this sub feels exactly like that, incredible. This sub is great for movies too but must calibrate so it is not to powerful. Very tight and slam is off the charts. BTY it took mine a while to break in. The punch was not as good right out of the box but after a while it started to hit you and leave you much faster. I can't say anything bad about this sub. Awesome
