Strength:

Very Deep bass and great bass for movies. One of the best subs I have heard under $1000

Weakness:

The only weakness I found was trying to get the 120lbs box it came in into my car. And it took 2 people to get it out

I have a very big room and it is hard to fill it with bass. This sub not only filled my room but it filled my 2 floor house. I can go upstairs at the other end of my house and still hear and at sometimes feel the bass especially if I have the Matrix DVD on.

Excellent sound quality, very powerful. I had the AudioSource SW15 and a Optimus 12 with Sony ES receiver (180 Watts). The AudioSource developed a buzz so I took it back and got the Polk 650. It sounds cleaner and better then both the others combined. It does very well for music and excellent for Theater. I got it at for $479 with a total of 7 years warranty. For this price you cannot even get close to the quality of this unit.

Strength:

unbelievable power and clarity

Weakness:

I love Polk products. This PSW650 250 watt amplifier
allows the rest of my Polk speakers to be even more
efficient, if that is possible. The power from the
subwoofer was extemely impressive and permitted
great clarity of sound. The test that I found most
impressive was when I listened to the Telmark DTS 5.1
sampler CD and in the part of Jurassic Lunch,
the foot stomping reverberated cleanly and the eating
of the birds was super clear. I highly recommend this
subwoofer, another great Polk product at an affordable
price.

I was considering a PSW140 which is great for music listening, but if you're serous about movies like I am, specially in DTS this is the one to get.
It has a nice array of inputs and outputs in the back, a crossover and a phase reversing switch. It also has a 3db boost switch for movies.

It's high current 250 watts amp really gets the job done and the power ports make the sound a much more controled one, and once the unit is broken in the bass gets fast and smooth. A really nice budget sub.

Strength:

Great frequency range, teeth rataling lows

Weakness:

Heavy and difficult to place because of size

I bought the PSW650 to complement the polk audio RT2000p front channel, the CS400 center channel, and the FX500 for surround speakers. The sub has a very good low frequency response and has all the hook ups needed for any home theater system. I purchased the sub to get better low end response than the built in subs in my RT2000p, so it had to be a good sub. The sub not only sounds good in movies but also sounds good in reproducing music. I found the PSW650 to reproduce low frequencies impecable manner with no distortion. I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in buying an outstanding sub for a modest price.

Strength:

Sounds great. No problems I've noticed.

Weakness:

none that I am aware of.

I bought this sub at one of those beat the clock type deals.
Where you have to be in line when the store opens.
I didn't know anything about it but setting up my first
home theater thought heh for $300 cdn. I can't go wrong.

It's output as much bass as I've asked. I haven't gotten
my hands on any low frequency sweeps so I haven't been able to see what it can do.

With my Energy C8 mains and Energy AC300 Center I can definitly go loud.

Strength:

Build Quality, Tight bass response, good controls and connections.
Volume control on front. Price/Performance. Dual 10" cones produce serious bass.

Weakness:

Big and Heavy...wouldn't have it any other way.
Hard to read number on volume control.

For the record, my system consists of:
RT35i for front and rears
CS400i for center
PSW650 for subwoofer

Denon AVR3300 Receiver
Panasonic A320 DVD Player
Technics SL-PD8 CD Changer

The bass is phenomenal. If calibrated properly blends very well with music and movies. Can produce bass guitar and deep male voices dynamically and clearly. LFE reproduction is wall and floor shaking. Bass is tight but not extremely tight and not boomy.

The price and performance is great since I've found through auditioning that the Monitor Audio stuff is overrated and overpriced since I'm getting comparable performance (I think better in some cases) at a much lower price.

Connections are all there from speaker line to RCA input line. Variable crossover control for speaker line inputs. Phase control, +3db switch and On/Off/Auto switch. Volume control conviently located on the front along with a LED light to show it is on.

Dolby Digital and DTS soundtracks benefit greatly with the addition of a subwoofer especially this one. Regular CDs sound great too.

I have placed my reviews for the other products on their respective web pages.

Brief rundown on features/specs:
Variable lowpass crossover, from 120hz to 40hz
+3db switch
Has a switch which gives you the on/off/auto option (auto will switch the sub on when it detects a signal, however it takes about 5 seconds for it to warm up)
0 degree/180 degree phase switch

Has a built in 250 watt amp, which drives two 10" subwoofers. The subs appear to be very nicely built. Cones are made out of some carbon material, surrounds are rubber. The dustcover is shapped the same way the cone is (ie: instead of a bubble pointing out on common speakers it's a bubble pointing in).

The case is about the size of a small dorm refridgerator (if anyone recalls the size of those). It is ported. The ports are covered by these wierd square things. Attatched to these are what looks like big golf tee's, where the thin end enters the box. The theory is that this reduces alot of port noise. I think the theory is correct ;).

It is heavy. :)

It has many different ways to connect to your stereo. The mannual list like half a dozen various ways to connect it. I use the sub-out RCA jack on my amp.
The other "main" way is to run your speaker wires to a pair of terminals on the subwoofer, and then another pair of wires on a second set of terminals to your speakers. Here you have the option of cutting off sound < 80hz to your mains.

The volume knob goes from 1 to 11 (instead of 1 to 10 :P ). It is underneath the "polk audio" logo on the front of the case. This logo also has a decent sized greenish LED which glows when the power is on.

Sound is very solid, and gets VERY loud. It complements the B&W 602's that I currently use as mains very well. Definately adds the extra low end "stuff just blew up" kick that the movies once lacked :). (My ears are still aching from the movie I watched last night -- sucker can definately create some pressure).

It doesn't sound great listening to music, but it doesn't sound bad either. I don't really know how to describe the quality in that area; I guess the best way to describe it is: The sound isn't boomy, but it isn't really tight either.

There is kind of a gab between sub $500 powered sub and plus $1000 powered subs. There really isn't a whole lot there. This sub is just over the $500 range and pretty much blows anything in sub $500 category away, big time. It doesn't really surpass subs passing $1000, but then again, for $650 I wouldn't expect it to.

Thus far I am very happy with this item.
