Strength:

More than loud enough! Can''t say enough about the good looks, great build and ESPECIALLY the volume knob on the front. This sub held it''s own in a very large room (24x30) with cathedral ceilings. It pounds!! it makes things fall off shelves. It has every kind of hookup option and input connection you could ever need. The dual side firing woofers seem to keep most of the sound IN the room, unlike the downfiring woofer subs that seem to transfer a lot of the sound to the basement where the children may be sleeping. Polk has great customer service, they answer the phones quickly and can get you in touch with a tech immediately.

Weakness:

25HZ is as low as it goes, and it is kinda weak until you get up into 35-60HZ. Then it really thumps. Before i got the Monster cable, the sub would power on for no reason with the auto on/off feature. now it''s fine. not much else.

I am very pleased with the performance of this subwoofer. I compared it side by side against Paradigm and Klipsch in the same price range. It seemed to me to be much more punchy and tight compared to the Klipsch sub. The Paradigm was actually much louder than the Polk and could REALLY pound, but it seemed a tad on the boomy side. So considering that the majority of use for me is listening to music (80%) and movies (20%) I chose the Polk for it''s balanced musical tone, better speaker connects and volume knob placement. I have a Denon 1802 with Paradigm Titan surrounds and Paradigm center. Incidentally the Polk PSW650 really tightened up with the addition of a Monster Cable! I did sound tests and comparisons using: Toy Matinee DTS, (DTS 5.1 surround) Mad Season''s CD ''Above'' (Stereo and 5 ch surround) Morphine''s CD ''Cure for Pain'' (Stereo and 5 ch surround) Matrix DVD, Toy story DVD. At home I have to keep the volume only about 2/3 to blend with my system.

Strength:

clean and deep bass without distortion, input options

Weakness:

none

I decided to get this sub because my room is quite large and the subwoofers I owned before the PSW650 weren't capable of playing loud enough without distorting. This sub is very musical and it is able to blend in even with small mains. It's dual 10" subs with a high current 250watt amp should fill medium to large size rooms with deep bass. This sub is great for movies especially if you like playing your movies loud. It can handle everything from soft bass passages to the biggest explosions without distorting or bottoming out. I use both the speaker inputs and line level to make sure I'm not missing out on anything. It's a good idea to have a friend help you move it around the room to find the right location because it's very heavy and it's much easier to have someone change the phase switch and low pass crossover while you are at your istening position to determine the best settings for your whole system. I don't think there's a better subwoofer out there in the same price range as the PSW650. Since I'm very happy with this sub and haven't found any weakness in it, I'm gonna have to give it a perfect score.

(ALL PERFECT)

THE MORE LITERS (OR CUBIC FEET) YOU CAN MOVE, THE MORE EXPANDED IS YOUR ENVIROMENT, THE MORE REAL IS THE SOUND.

YOU CANT MAKE THIS MONSTER DISTORT WITHOUT BLOWING ALL THE WINDOWS IN THE HOUSE.

I THINK THE EARTHQUAKE IN MEXICO CITY WAS CAUSED BY ONE OF THESE.

Strength:

High quality of finish and workmanship.
Excellent connectivity chioces: Line in/out, LFE, Speaker in/out.
High-pass and low-pass filters. Phase control.
Auto sense power on.
SOUND, SOUND, SOUND!!!

Weakness:

N/A up to now.

I am using the PSW650 for HiFi only.
I have added it to my Harman Kardon HK3470 stereo receiver and to the Mirage M-790 bipolar towers. I am using the (L and R) sub outputs of the receiver to connect it.
The crossover of the PSW650 is set at the lowest point (40Hz) to complement the 35Hz bottom range of the Mirage. The volume of the PSW650 is set to 4 to have it blend with the Mirage without being noticed.
The subwoofer is positioned between the speakers (not centered) and I had to play with the phase shift switch to get it right.

And the conclusion:
There are no words to describe the improvement this thing has done to the sound of my system. It is not only bass; is the male voices, the guitars, the classical music, the whole volume impact, everything. From my point of view, it was really worthed.

Strength:

Pristine sound, and great looking furniture no need to hide the speaker.

Weakness:

None

Vary easy to set up, easy to integrate into other speakers as well as the home theater as a whole. The sound that comes from this sub just rivals everything that I have heard under $1000.00

Strength:

Many

Weakness:

None considering the price

Recently added my second PSW-650 for my LFE channel. WOW! Adding a second sub boosted the max SPL by 6 decibels, which means I can play each sub at -3db less (@ half the previous power) and still maintain the same avg. SPL, but with gobs more headroom.

Advantages are many, loading the room from two different locations equalizes the peaks and nulls in the standing wave field, also balances the LFE field across both sides of the soundstage. Performance, which was excellent before, is even better now, almost effortless.

I think leveling out the standing waves seemed to increase the low frequency preformance as perceived from my listening position. With DVDs like The Haunting and U571, performance, which was always impressive, is now downright scary!

Tweakers Note: I'm running Monster Z-Bass cables to both subs, found this made a BIG improvement over standard cables. Also using Mapleshade Heavyfeet Feet brass cones, with equally noticable results. Finally (so far), I had 1.5" marble tops (27 lbs. each) cut to fit each sub. Looks great! And also helps with dampening.

Strength:

Looks nice

Weakness:

Not enough power

Polk rhymes with Choke, or perhaps, Joke. This sub wasn't very good. When I wanted it loud and tight, it gave me boomy and distorted. Very, dissappointing. But, well, not surprized. After all, it is Polk audio.

Strength:

Quick and Accurate

Weakness:

Only 250 Watt amp

This is a fine speaker(S) in a beautiful cabinet that is very quick, accurate and if easy to place in the room for the best sound since it has two opposing 10" speakers.

Strength:

Earthshaking BASSSSS! Tight and clean.

Weakness:

Heavy as a mother.

Before I tried this sub, I was real skeptical. I thought it would suck (not a real fan of Polk), but damn, was I wrong.
I first demoed the sub at Circuit City. Holy mother, this sub was threatening to break the windows. I knew I had to have this.
30 minutes after setup, my apt. neighbors (notice the plural) and managers (who unfortunately live directly below and across from me) came and b17ched at me.
I've had it for about 3 weeks now, and I've received 3 other complaints. So I had to take this baby home where I could really play it loud.
Two statements I must make:
This sub is perfect for music.
This sub is perfect for HT.
If your a student in need of loud yet clean bass, look no farther. This is it.

My setup:
Harman Kardon AVR-310
Sony DVP-NS300S
Acoustic Research S-50 (BAD-ASS)
Lancer Surround
Sony 20" Trinitron
Polk Audio psw-650
Monster Cables
