Strength:
It worked reasonably well, while it worked
Weakness:
Quality/Repair price. Smoke did not smell like pine. Just blew. With a loud fog-horn. I will see if replacing the capacitors works. Too bad, since I don't have another sub in my budget. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
Inexpensive at the time
Weakness:
Muddy output - wished it were tighter I too purchased this from UBid as a refurb back in early 2000. It's been about two years now and I have never experienced ANY of the humming detailed here. For what it's worth, I've always had it plugged into a surge protector and use an X10 lamp module to allow me to "turn it off" whenever it is not in use (low-frequency boom/pop when "turning it on"). I expect I've got another 6-12 months of service left from this thing. Similar Products Used: none |

Strength:
strong bass, great add to jbl 2600 bss
Weakness:
amp died 2x I had it for 11 month, scared the s--- outof the family when a machine gun was firing in our almost empty and echoing living room. Took it 30 miles to a repair shop. Got it back used it for 6 months same problem. (at least i knew what it was) I have used it as a step for my daughter to look outside since. (very well built box) I just bought the SM 125's blewa tweeter called inf, they sent a new tweet, a repair kit for te sub and 2 new tweets for the 2600's. GREAT SERVICE...AS IT SHOULD BE.... Similar Products Used: now have inf sm 125's hardley need the sub. |

I unfortunately have to add my name to the long list of people with a dead BU-120. I've had the unit for maybe 4 years now. It first died on me with a load repeaded thumping sound. Like its taking the 60Hz from the outlet as an imput. I can not emphasize how "loud" this was when it suddely went out in the middle of the night. I was able to get it repaired the first time at a one of the nearest repair shops (in dallas 300 miles away) while it was still under the 2 year warranty. Now two years later I was again rattled out of bed in the middle of the night. I guess it's a complete loss now. I don't feel like paying to have it fixed if it breaks so often. Don't buy this product. |

Strength:
Powerful sound for movies
Weakness:
Souds lously with music, some humm, no on/off switch, sounds muddy I guess I'm lucky since I have been using this since early 2000. I bought a switch at The Home Depot and never leave it on following a move. This may be why the unit has not failed. Also, I have full range speakers and therefore don't need too much volume from this sub. This unit had terrible hum and I upgraded the interconnect, which eliminated 90% of the humm. Strength:
Good bass, for the price.
Weakness:
A little muddy if you don't plug one of the ports up. Wow....................lots of problems since I've checked the reviews on this. I've used mine for about a year and a half and I can't complain. Good bass for the money I paid. 120$ from Mercata. I hope mine doesn't end up with the same fate as everyone elses but you do get what you pay for. I needed a quick fix when I purchased this sub and even if it does blow I got my money's worth. All I have to say is don't give up on Infinity!!!! Their speakers are great. I have rs5 mains and the cc-3 center channel. I also have the reference series speakers in my car along with the reference sub, and it all KICKS!!!!!! I have my sub at home hooked up to a surge protector, I have no idea if that will help but I hope so. Anyways if this sub is a lemon, than it's just a fluke. I've never had a problem with any Infinity products. |

Strength:
Reasonably priced.
Weakness:
Hum, hum, hum, click, pop, smolder. Not too good. Unit has always hummed. Recently has begun the machine gunning that others have noted. (I might add both of these issues occur without any active source.) Similar Products Used: 15" M&K sub, 10" KLH sub, Yamaha YST-MS50 sub. |

Blew up in 2 years Here's a follow-up to my earlier review: Late one night while I was sleeping my BU-120 finally blew up, machine gun sounds and the aroma of burnt electronics filling the air. I'm going to try the recommended cap fixes and if that doesn't work, it's going out to the curb. Although I have always been a fan of Infinity loudspeakers, I'm very disappointed that the BU-120 turned out to the such a piece of junk. I surely won't be buying any other subwoofers from Infinity. |
