Strength:

Deep, powerful bass.

Weakness:

None

First, I want to start by saying right out of the box this sub really sounds great, but I had a minor problem with it. When there was no sound going to the sub I can here a 60 Hz hum coming from it. Because of this hum, the sub would never auto shut off. It was always on unless I turn it off by the switch. After about two or more weeks of listening to this annoying hum I had to find out where it was coming from. I knew that the sub was working fine, so I didn't bother calling CW tech. support. I started disconnecting my gear trying to trace down this hum. After I had all my gear disconnected, including cables, and power cords, the hum was still there. The only thing that wasn't disconnected was the coaxial cable from my cable company. Guess what? Disconnected the cable and the hum was gone. Stupid cable company, they didn't ground the cable coming into my house. I didn't call the cable company about this problem, they might charge me a fee for sending a guy out to repair this problem. Having a technical background I decided to fix this on my own. I took two .01 micro farad capacitors rated at 500 VDC and put them in-line on the coaxial cable; one capacitor in-line to ground and the other in-line to the center conductor. Re-connected the cable and the 60 Hz hum is gone. No more hum and the sub auto shuts off like it suppose to. If you experience hum from your sub it could be the cable.

This sub is great. It can produce deep bass that will fill your room, loud and clear. If you want to test the greatness of this sub, run out and get yourself a copy of the DVD "The Hunting". Pop that DVD into your DVD player and let this sub shake the walls, doors, glass windows, and anythings that isn't nailed down. It will play it deep, and it will play it loud, CW style.

For those that don't like this sub and says its too boomy. Do what I did. I line the walls of the sub with fiber glass and sealed it up. WOW!!! It hits even harder and deeper. Nice clean tight bass. Now, I put the damping material inside the sub because I knew it would improve its performance and not because I think its too boomy.

Breaking-in this sub a few hours will make it sound CW AWESOME.

Thanks, CW for producing an awesome sub. In your next generations of sub please add some damping material on the walls.

Frederick

Strength:

Price(got an unusually good deal at Sears-long story)!!!!Sound, volume & nice tight bass.

Weakness:

None!

This is a fantastic sub-woofer.It can sound as boomy or tight as you want it to be.Very loud(Cerwin-Vega-what did you expect?),and it can cave your house in.This sub is VERY smooth and tight and the sound blends in perfectly with my set-up.Can go very low and can be very hard hitting. When I go from watching a DVD to listening to music I have to turn the volume way down because the sub is so powerfull.I am amazed at how tight, quick and fast this sub sounds.Overall a great sub for movies and music-HIGHLY recommended.

Strength:

AWSOME SOUND FOR THE MONEY!!!!

Weakness:

It would be nice to have front mounted controls!

I have this sub hooked up to a JVC RX8000-VBK! I also use Cerwin's E-706's for the front, LS-6C center channel and E705's for the rear. You would not believe the sound. I'm sure there are better sounding systems out there, but at what cost? I would put this system up against any system under $1000! I'm sure you will have a tough time finding one that will even come close. From watching a DVD's to all kinds of music, it always puts a smile on my face, even at softer levels.

Strength:

Everything about it. It hits hard and it hits clean. Gives a complete feel when watching movies.

Weakness:

None at all!

I love this and I wouldn't give it up for any other 12 inch powered sub for the price. I love this sub. I use it for music (rap) and it sounds awesome! Same with movies, it rumbles everything when used at full potential. My old JBL compares nothing like it. Im gradually building my system and this buy was worth it and makes music sound good on only a yamaha POS receiver.

Strength:

Hits hard, rumbles are awesome for movies, and the hums are incredible

Weakness:

the controls are in back, but that doesnt matter too much

This sub is a great sub. I never thought I'd be able to get a cerwin vega because of my budget but I found that the LW series is cheaper and it sounds excellent. This sub is awesome for movies and music. It has clean, hard hitting beats and rumble that knock things off my shelf without padding!

Strength:

what bass should be

Weakness:

volume control is hard to reach

After reading the reviews here I decided on this bad boy. I search on pricegrabber for the best price which was $260. I brought to Sears and they matched it. Paid 3% tax here in Jersey. So I think I got a good deal. I connected it to my Onkyo TX-DS676. I popped in "public enemy" (bass tester) on the cd player and BAM, this thing is sweet. My equipment is in the basement, I went to the second floor and my windows were rattling (no joke). I'm waiting for my PSBs hope they work well together.

Strength:

Hard Hitting Bass. Works great with Movies and Music!

Weakness:

None.

I found a great deal on the CV LW-12, so I couldn't help but buy one. I was very eager to get rid of the very boomy SW-15 I had purchased at Costco a while back. Immediately after hooking it up, it was like night and day. It's not boomy, and it really has clean bass, and it can get LOUD! I can't wait for my Onkyo TX-DS787, Onkyo DV-S535, JBL S312's, JBL S-Center, and JBL S26's to arrive so that I can really get the full effect of my new setup!

Overall, a quality component, a great performer, and a bargain for the price.

Strength:

Powerfull...ohh so very powerfull. Rugged and solid design, quick response, and very very loud

Weakness:

Auto-on feature is kinda lame, but oh well i just leave it on all the time anyhow.

I wanted another subwoofer to improve thumpiness of my stereo system. I have it running along side my Kenwood 8" sub and it sounds beautiful. The LW-12 shakes and rattles everything that isn't lagged to the floor, and scares the neighbours pets. It has quite low distortion and can go low.
It's not nearly as large as some of the other 12" subs that I've seen (Mirage FRx-12) but it's still pretty big. That's ok, doesn't bother me much. Sure you could spend the $1000 on the Mirage, Velodyne, Paradime (paradym?) subs but for this price it can't be beat.
If you are like me, a university/college student wanting a major-piss-off-your-neighbours-and-have-a-wicked-stompin'-party sub....Cerwin Vega is the way to go.

Strength:

Big Bad and Low Rumbling Bass. Excellent for movies or music.

Weakness:

controls are in the back. but once they are set they're set.

Awesome bass reproduction for movies and music, I've got a JVC rvk-884 which if you have read the reviews for that you know the sub out is not right, so I had to connect my speakers through the high and low level inputs on the sub. I've watched everything from Gladiator and Twister on DVD to the Star Wars Trilogy on VHS and the Sub is just amazing. The low rumbling on the Star Wars movies is great. And you feel like the twisters are gonna blow the windows out of the house. Music is great on this sub also. I'm a big hard rock fan and a drummer and I LOVE double bass drumming and when listening to a great metal song with a lot of double bass drumming the lows are so tight and clean it's unbelievable. It's like your at the show and the bass is just pounding your chest into submission, Yeah Baby!!! Anyboby looking for earth-shattering lows and amazing bass reproduction need not look any further.
