Just got these speakers and love them! I compared many different sub/sat sets before I purchased them. My local CC store had them in a sound room with other more expensive Polks as well as Infinity ,Bose and others. When I returned the next day they had pulled them out and had them on the floor(because they sounded as good or better than any other speakers in the room and were the lowest cost)

I have had the Polk RM 5400 system for 10 months. It connected to Technics SX720 with 100w/channel. I'll give the system 5 stars for home theater, BUT - forget listening to music (OK- if its below 80db). I paid $800 coins at Circuit City - I wish I had built my own surround system - could have had a kicker system for that much money. Now - I'm investing another$700-900 coins for some decent main speakers that can handle rock. My final opinion - the RM5400 is overrated for the price -

Strength:

Sound EXCELLENT. listened to these next to some bose. The bose sounded like muddy water in comparison. Aside from this, they're tiny and they look great!

Weakness:

None. Maybe the sub could use some more power, but that could be due to the 12' x 40' room it's in :)

They're sweet. I bought them for $800, which is a great deal. Have seen demo models for cheaper than this. Even for $1k, they're a great set of speakers! I could only imagine that the rm7300's with a more powerful sub and matching rears would just be a notch better, if this is even possible. Das Boot sounds like you're sinking with the sub!

Strength:

Great sounds, inexpensive, clarity, and succulent to the ears

Weakness:

Rear speakers are bulky, manual had some bad advice, sub-woofer card blew out after 8 months

Hi kids. I'm following up my previous review to say that this is still a great deal and system after 8 months of use. Only bad thing that happened to me was sub blew on the movie "Any Given Sunday". I'm not sure if it was a timing issue or the movie was at fault, but the card on my sub blew causing a lot of popping noises. But Circuit City repaired it with no charges since it has a 1 year warranty on the electronics of the sub. Still an excellent buy

Strength:

Great Price, Great Sound,Surround sound works well

Weakness:

Manual has some bad advice, Rear speakers are a tad big

This was an excellent buy for home speakers. I must say that for 599 bones, this is probably the best deal on the market when you consider the alternatives. The sub really rocks the house. The small front speakers deliver a powerful, crisp sound.

My only gripes were that the rear speakers are a bit large and mounting them to the wall was a little bit of a challenge. The manual also called for the wiring for the front speakers to be done through the sub even if your receiver has front speaker connections. I thought this would be a bit ridiculous.

But these are small gripes. Love it BABY!!!!!!!

This is a great speaker system for the money. The powered 8" sub really makes the difference for both stereo and home theater sound. The satilites and M1's are good midrange speakers and the front to rear imageing is flawless. The total package really works well together. A definate 5 stars.

Strength:

Rich, full and clean sound. The Sub, is commanding without being Boomy.

Weakness:

The Surrounds are indeed large, kind of ugly large at that.

I have arrived at the Polk family of speakers by way of Bose and Infinity. The Bose can be quicly eliminated. They really sound good only if you listen to them in insolation, and swear never to listen to anything else. While the infinity's were nice, the sound was unbearably thin. The RM5400 on the other hand, when correctly setup and adjusted are within there price range magnificient.
I considered a number of different speakers and auditioned quite a few, for the price I think that you would be hard pressed to find anything that sound better. The manual is kind of weak, and the surrounds are large, but other than that its "cherry".

Strength:

Killer output from small sub, CLEAN highs, small size

Weakness:

One of the fronts had a blown tweeter

I can't believe how much clearer and articulated this inexpensive, compact package is versus the Cerwin Vega's it's replacing. Came across a deal on it at the City and considering the $400 instant for Compuserve, I couldn't pass up FREE speakers... my only complaint is that one of the front surrounds had a blown tweeter. Listening to the other front though, I was impressed with the highs that they can produce. Overall, my first experience w/ Polk products but DEFINITELY not my last!! :)
