Strength:

Includes a sub-woofer with 100 watts of power. The speaker set match each perfectly.

Weakness:

Rear speakers look a little bigger than usual and the fronts are small.

I upgraded from the Infinity HTS-10 set and I noticed the difference instantly. The center speaker handles dialogue really well and the rears are great for surround effects. The major difference was in the sub. It provides deep, tight bass for ground-breaking low effects. This is a great system to get for entry level dolby digital set. One of the best systems you can get for under 600 bills. You can't go wrong with this set if your looking for the best sat/sub systems.A definite 5 stars.

I listened to a lot of speakers and found none to match the clarity of sound the Polk Audio RM5400's produced, I found them to be an exceptional value.

Strength:

Good looks (except for rears), decent little sub, small center and front channels. Good bang for the buck.

Weakness:

Large rear channels

The system has a decent sound, however, the subwoofer has finally blown up. I made the switch to a Velodyne and am much happier.

The RM5400 are definitly the best buy in a sub-sat system, with a 100 watt powered sub and the beautiful sound from these non resonating speakers. For $1,000 you can't beat these, especially when you look at the competition, JBL SCS120 (which have been discontinued) or the Bose AM10s, obvious choice

A good overall (budget) home theater speaker set, all in one package. Powered sub-woofer performance is hampered because it turns itself off when not recieving signals at a high enough level. When it does kick in, it often causes sudden and noticable change in low frequency bass performance (WOW!!- Now it's on!). Nice directional speaker mounting system. Ensure your reciever has enough power to drive these (100+ Watts/chnl). System really performs well for both Dolby Pro-Logic and Digital systems. In my tests they even out-perform Bose Acoustic Mass speakers!

I just got these speakers i got them for $700 witch is a pritty damn good deal. The sound is reat on these. What i realy like about them is that the tewwter is extra protected from blowouts. the only feature that i don't like is how the subwoffer turs itself off. The speakers can take ALOt of power from my receaver. My dad got the bose aqustamass 15 and i this the polk sound ALOT better.

The Polk Audio RM 5400's can't be beat. After auditioning countless sub/sat systems to replace the bookshelf surround system I had (paradigm all around) Polk's RM 5400 rose clearly to the top. The charachteristic overpowering, muddled midrange of most sat systems wasn't a problem with these speakers. The sub sounds fantasticly musical, the fronts produce crisp highs and defined mids. The speaker design of the front and center speakers are fantastic and the construction is top notch. The rear surrounds are a little large for a sattelite system, but they sound great.
I had originally looked at the Bose AM-15 system as an option. It is a bit more expensive and I have to admit I love the BOSE styling. However, after looking at BOSE, Klipsch, Infinity, and Boston Acoustics the Polk's distinguished themselves as the best sounding satelite sub combo I had heard.

Polk Audio RM-5400
I have been listening to these speakers now for a few months and they sound fantastic. I have looked at the Bose Acoustimass-15 and the Klipsch sub-sat systems and although the looks of the others are much better, the Polks are much better sounding. The bass from the subwoofer is probably the sore point not so much in terms of performance but it occationally seem to shut off and turn on depending on what you're watching(I use mine as part of my home theatre). The front speakers are very well matched. The rear surrounds are UGLY but does the job.

Overall not bad for a budget system and does well on the price/bang for the buck scale.

I've had these suckers for a year and a half- and they're just *GREAT*. For the price, I'd say its definately the best sounding sattelite 5.1 set. If you've got a few hundred more $$, go for the set with a more powerful sub and matching rear speakers. I use these with a 100x5 yamaha 995, and they just rock!

This is my first home theater speaker system, so I have no basis for real comparison. BUT, I can say that these speakers are incredible and have certainly continued to impress me over the past 8 months. The subwoofer is a little small, but for the price especially, I wouldn't trade this system for anything else.
