Strength:

Subwoofer will surprise you, it will make you jump (Space Cowboy - shuttle launch.) Appearance is the best in the market. Speakers have terrific sound reproduction - especially voice reproduction.

Weakness:

Made in China?! (China and Taiwan just gives the sense of the word CHEAP) - But have nothing against them.

Style is sleek high-gloss piano finish that lends a sophisticated appearance to any room. Looks more than what is cost and they come with white gloves! Now that's Living Large the economic-way. Speakers reproduces sound with stunning clarity, incredible voice reproduction and extraordinary flat frequency response. Compounding with an 8" long-throw woofer makes this the perfect Home Theater Set. Compared with other major brands. Beats all $1000 speaker sets. Hooked up with Acoustic Research Master Series Optical Cable to Panasonic SFX1050 (DVD player XP50 and amp AR10). All I can say is loud like BOSS speakers but better voice reproduction and the subwoofer just laterally blows you away. System: Panasonic PT56WX52, SFX1050, ARHC6 and all connected with AR master series cables. (all I can say is expensive cables!! better be worth the money - never tested other cables)

Strength:

Relatively low cost. Beautiful glossy-black finish. Small footprint. Excellent soundstage.

Weakness:

The subwoofer pops when it goes into the standby mode. I tried adjusting everything, the crossover, the sub volume, the cables, the settings on my receiver, but it still pops at low volumes. There appears to be a threshhold at which the sub thinks there is no more signal coming from the source and cuts out (goes to standby mode).

A friend first told me about Acoustic Research speakers. I checked out a bunch of extremely favorable reviews, then listened to them in a showroom. They sounded great, I bought them and love them for the most part, BUT.....

Strength:

Look, Accuracy, The sound is crisp and clear, Subwoofer is great and give a plenty of power. Of course it may lack of power like some people complained; I wonder if they put their sub in the warehouse or in their room.

Weakness:

None

I have had this baby for almost a year and I follow the reviews from this website for a while. I have to say that this AR HC6 is an excellent home theater speaker set. I still don't get why someone complain about the subwoofer. I am totally agree with soundman that the subwoofer is pretty balance with the rest of the system. I don't have to turn all the way to get the big boom sound. I use pioneer vsx-d711 and poineer DVD DV-C503; the movie becomes so real. You name it from Star warII, Saving Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, or Triple X to simple comedy like What Women want. I feel like I don't miss anything in the movies at all. For the music, it is great too. My friends used to come over a listen and everyone were thrilled and impressed with how the speakers sound. I would recommend this set to everyone. My friend has Bose AM10III and this set is just blown Bose away. I would say it out perform Bose and I pay much less than my friend paid for Bose. Don't be fool by the price. This system is really up to the standard to other brand name system like NHT super zero, Infinity, Polk, and even Bose.

Strength:

Accurate, great sounding, detailed speaker. Absolutely gorgeous to look at. At the price they are selling for, they are an absolute steal. Small beautiful speakers.

Weakness:

None really for the price.

Look: These things have a high gloss piano black finish that is just gorgeous. Definitely a high WAF factor here. The seams are not evident. Feel: The speakers are hefty especially the sub. The binding posts although gold plated are a bit small, so I used gold plated pins for connections. The sub has gold plated five way binding posts. Ergonomics: The binding post are too small for spade lugs if you have them. The sub has a complete list of controls for phase, five way binding posts, large power cord etc. Sound: In a word, these speakers are great sounding units. I have used them for 2-channel music over the past year. Listening to "We Get Requests" by Oscar Peterson's "You look good to me," the bass is just excellent. My Legacy Focus could not play this cut no matter what I did. Listening to Diane Schurr " New York State of Mind" on her "Deedles" cd is almost hypnotic. Large orchestral works sound just fine. These are small speakers, so keep that perspective in mind when you listen. For movies, they really sing as well. I have watched and listened to The Matrix, Air Force One, Armageddon, Star Wars Attack of the clones--you name it. My only problem was that my modest priced receiver Technics SA-DX930 would shut down with modest levels when I listened to my Telarc classical cds.. I advise you to get a good receiver for them. I have not had any problem with my sub at all. Perhaps later production units had problems with the sub. My sub sits quietly in a corner waiting to do its bass thing. One thing to note, in my room which is 20 x 15 I have the bass set at about 1/4. This is most accurate for music. I can increase the bass for movies, but I usually don't. Partsexpress.com has some excellent stands for $26/pr for these speakers.

None. This is the first small scale home theater speaker system I owned. I compared it to the Energy Take 5, but the price difference was too great to pass up. The Energy was about $300 more!

Strength:

Rich,clear,piano gloss finish,awesome price.

Weakness:

Subwoofer pops at low levels, and weak.

After 2 months of constant research on speakers that fit my budget I finally decided on this one. I was pleased on the way the speakers looked and after hours setting them up with my Harmon Kardon AVR320. I was really dissapointed on the subwoofer, and it gives a pop noise the volume is at low levels, and at high levels the sub seems like it cant handle it. The sats were Great tho because it gave out rich, clear sounds that cant come close to bose a the Klipch that i have heard. Have to admit for the price its a steal cuz for $400 bucks you should be lucky it came with a sub. Once i get a better sub this system of mine will be complete.

Weakness:

None yet, will write new review in a month.

Just got this speaker system based on reviews here and elsewhere. Price was a consideration for me, so this is why I decided on the HC6 and not the Energy Take 5.From the reviews I read both systems are excellent, just a matter of price. Well I must say that when I opened them up I was very pleased with the apperance, stunning to say the least. These little guys look like they cost a hell of alot more then are. As for sound I really don't think my opinion at this time can be fair, as I have only had them for 24 hours, and my new reciever has not arrived yet. I did however hook them up to a Phillips fr965 digital reciever and the sound was very rich and dynamic. I'm not an audiophile by any means, but I have been involved with live music for many a years, these speakers met and surpassed my expectations. I can't wait to try them out with my new reciever (Outlaw 1050). After I get the reciever and play thse guys for a while I'll write another review, for now I'm goin to watch a movie.

Strength:

center channel provides very crisp natural dialog. sub really puts out some nice clean bass. price aestetics entire system matched perfectly.

Weakness:

sub auto shuts off mid-movie makes a minor thump during lulls in action.

I just received the AR6 this weekend with great anticipation. I hooked everything up to my Denon AVR 1803. I purchased this system blind. I had never heard it before. I based my decisions on all of the reviews I found on this sight as well as some "professional" reviews. I have it set up in an apartment the room is about 18x24 ft and opens into a dining room. I was worried about the sub since I had read that it was the weak link in some other reviewers descriptions of this system. I think unless you put this system in a wharehouse, it should not be a concern. These speakers are matched perfectly, movies sound excellent, and you forget were they are in the room getting lost in the DVD. I believe the sub is the strongest part of this system it woofs I watched star wars episode II WOW...warn your neighbors! One last thing, I have a 6.1 system so I needed another one of those really cool piano gloss sattelites no problem. I just called AR's parts department you can get the number off of there web site. The indivdual sattelite arrived before the rest of the system it cost about 75.00. This system is a steal!

Strength:

Great sound quality packs a nice punch for the size small speakers, easily mounted and placed anywhere.

Weakness:

sub lacks power satilites dont go loud enough.

This system has awesome sound quality, but not the volume i wanted. The speakers just are not big enough. The center channel could be bigger, and the sub lacks the proper power to make my house fall apart. I do admit the sub is powerfull (100 watts), but at higher volumes, it sounds destored. If you are looking for a great home theater system that doesnt have to knock the pants off you, then get this, because the sound quality is great!

Strength:

Very detailed and accurate bass. A very balanced sound with no noticeable timbre differences betwee speakers

Weakness:

None I can think of

Well, I would definately concur with the other reviews on this site These speakers are amazing for the price! Especially considering you get 6 speakers in the package Craftmanship/finish was impeccable, size is tiny for such a big sound and the audio quality was outstanding. The main thing I like about these little guys is their accuracy in repoducing some very complex music. The are a little in the lower mid range section, but apart from that they amazed me Alas, I do not own them - I was just out helping a friend purchase his first surround sound system and boy did he luck out - the store had just recuced the speakers (floor model) from $1000CDN to $600CDN. Even at $1000CDN these are truly a great sound and knowing the AR name will last for years I liked them so much I offered to sell him my speakers - since he had a limited budget

Good crisp highs, mediocre mid range, good bass. The bass won't hit the all the lows on an Enya' disc, but tries! Chuck Mangione's horn sounds great, along with the piano of George Winston. I would recommend these speakers to anyone looking for an inexpensive surround sound speaker set.
