Strength:

Great look, great sound, great range

This is a great speaker, I love it. I also got it from ubid. I have them connected as front speakers on a Nakamichi AV-7. Sounds Great. looks great, I haven't found any weaknesses in base, mids or highs, I do have them bi-wired, which I would recommend. Great musically as well as for Home Theater.

Very impressive bass from such a small floor standing speaker. High's are exceptional as well. Midrange can get a bit bright. I would personally put these up against anything from Paradigm, Mission, Polk, etc. Works well for music and home theater. Can be had for a reasonable price either mail order, or at auction sites.

Strength:

Tight Bass, Refined sound

Weakness:

Too Boomy if placed in a corner

Unbelieveable price paid for these speakers. Paid $125 including S/H from Ebay. I have a pair of technics at home with 15 inch woofers and they're without a doubt, childs play compared to the modus 8's. The only thing i've noticed is, if you place the Modus 8's in a corner, it seems like the house is falling down. I've never heard so much bass especially coming from 6 1/2" woofers. Even if you turn the bass control all the way down on your receiver, it still sounds too boomy in the corner. But if kept away from the corners, these speakers are perfect. Produce and extremely realistic sound.

Strength:

Fantastic soundstage. Mids and bass are very good, although a bit on the "boomy" side.

Weakness:

As everyone else has pointed out, BUILD QUALITY! The grills are absolutely horrible.

As an experienced on-line shopper I must say this is the first time I've ever felt nervous buying anything on the Internet. I've always auditioned any audio equipment that I've ever purchased but I decided to bite the bullet and go for it this time around. For $207 you can't go wrong!

When the speakers arrived, as is the case with the majority of the other reviewers, the tweeters had decided to pop off and rattle about inside the box. I called IAG (1-877-440-0888) and they walked be through reconnecting the wires.

At this point I was braced to hear my wife say, "See...I told you so...” But once I hooked them up to my Yamaha RX-V800, both she and I were impressed. Granted, they sounded REALLY "boomy" at first, but that was corrected after attaching the metal spikes and about 20 hours of listening to break them in.

I've thrown everything I can at them (Jazz, Classical, House, Hip-Hop, R & B) and I've yet to see them break into a sweat.

As for home theater, I decided to use these at my surrounds to replace an old pair of Kenwood’s that I had. I can honestly say that I have a whole new appreciation for home theater after making this move. Since these guys have such an amazing soundstage, they were a perfect choice in my opinion. When listening to DD or DTS programs in 6.1 Matrix I could swear I've got a rear center! Be wary though, you've got to play around with their placement in order for them to do the job right.

I guess I have to say that only issue I've got with these speakers is there build quality. Upon close inspection by a "trained" eye, they give the impression that they're cheap, and rightfully so. But their unique design and sound make up for this shortcoming.

These speakers are no B&W, PSB, or Paradigm...but they are, in my opinion, the next best thing (for the price). If you find them at a good deal either at Ubid or any other place, don't hesitate to buy.

clear high and mid range. Solid and accurate bass.

Weakness:

Construction

This review is also for one.six. I sent an e-mail to
audioreview.com last month and ask them to add one.six to the list but they have not done it yet ?!

Anyway, I also got the one.six from ubid.com for $350 including shipping. When I first turned it on and played the
old CDs, even my wife told me that it is so much better than my 10 years old AR speakers and the 3 years old B/W speakers !! They all cost the almost the same at that time.

I am superised to find out all the music and detail that I have been missing when I was using the AR speakers. For music, its bass is just enough. But you should add a sub for movie.

One thing I do not like is the speaker cover which is made by thin plastic frame and you could break it easily if you open it too often.

When I peek inside the speaker from the hole in the front and at the back, there is not much inside the box.

I really like its seperation of the tweeter from the box and it makes the high much more clear and with more detail.

At this price, I am not complaining but smiling.

These are the best sounding speakers I have ever heard. I have friends coming over that I never knew I had with CD's in hand, just to get a listen. What else can I say. If you look you can find them for 117 a piece at UBID.

I just purchased these from UBID for $284 after reading all of the positive reviews posted here. Let me just say that I am not disappointed. I was simply amazed that the sound could be so much cleaner than the Bose junk I replaced. After I hooked up the Wharfedales I connected my old Bose Accustimass 10s to my speaker B selecter. Just one quick swith of the dial and I realize what a bargain these speakers are. They even impressed my girlfriends mom, what else do you need.

Strength:

Sweet rotating tweeters, tight bass, overall sound

Weakness:

Built quality

I got the speakers very cheap from a used hifi store. The woodblock was chipped a bit but that didn't affect the sound performance. The quality of the bi-wireable terminals is a let down, its easily loose from the plastic plate. I disassembled all the parts and found the internal wiring is of cheap materials. I replaced them with monster cables 14 AWG and soldered them to the cones. The construction of the drivers seemed to be of good quality, Wharfedale makes their own cones. The globe plastic enveloping the tweeters is not up to the standard - will easily broken if not too careful, and there is no protection for kid's poking fingers unto the plastic tweeters. I would guess strengthening the speaker box with bracings will improve the resonance effect but I haven't got time to do it.

First tested the speakers with Camb. Audio A500 integrated and Wharfedale CD901 CD players. Cables are homemade CAT5s and i/c from Puresonic. The highs are smooth and exciting, mids are okay with plenty of tight bass supporting it. Soundstage is bigger than most speakers at its (original) price range. Will do excellent in both HT and musics, though I wouldn't recommend for male vocal music. I have explore these speakers to the fullest yet, but I believe with some good tweaks the reward will be promising. I'm thinking of improving the cross-over and its components next - trying to boost the mids by sacrificing a bit of bass. These are very capable speakers, with the price I paid - I have to give them 5.

Hi I just purchased a pair of these speakers and I am totally impressed with their performance. I've thrown all types of music at them and they handle each with great definition and clarity. Their bass hits hard, clear and fast. The tweeter is excellent. It is very crisp and clear. A friend has a pair of Wharfedale Val500's and my Modus8's sound so much clearer and defined than his when we ran them off the same amplifier. So to anyone who is considering buying some of these I highly recommend them. Just add a sub and the sound would be awsome.

Good value, fine speaker. Not audiophile high end but a very nice speaker nonetheless. Excellent if you want to upgrade or need a second set of speakers.
