Strength:

Excellent Sound for such small speakers. Go very loud without distortion. Price. Looks. EVERYTHING ABOUT THEM

Weakness:

Non what so ever!!!

I first bought these to use as mains in my mini system. When they came, I was dissapointed with their size. Once hooked up, I was blown away and admitedly wrong!!!. The sound is amazing. Great bass for such small speakers. They fit in perfectly with the room and are not obtrusive. I personally think they are the best speakers ever!!! in this price range!!!!!! Check them out on Ubid.com Be careful with their shipping though read carefully. I also use other wharfedales (and hav heard many more). They are excellent!!!!!!!! I can promise that for the price (or even for more) you won't be upset. For more info email me at Mrgymdude1@aol.com

Enjoy them

Strength:

This review is for the Anniversary Edition. Cheap. Nice low-range response for a speaker this size.

Weakness:

The midrange is discernably distorted, even after 'break-in'. The grills are lame.

The Anniversary Edition is greatly improved from the standard 7.2 model, much fuller sound. However, unless you plan on using them for surrounds, or in the garage, do not waste your money on them. They are inferior to nearly everything in their MSRP range. In my personal opinion, Wharfedale is into hype, and resting on product recognition. None of the Wharfedale products that I have purchased could be considered 'audiophile' in quality.
As a side, beware of U-bid and their questionable shipping practices: they double-bill the shipping charges for Wharfedale speakers. E-mail me for full details.
Given what I paid, I give them 3-stars.

THESE ARE THE DIAMOND 8.2'S NOT THE 7.2'S

mjilagan, the 8.2's are very nice. ive listened to two pairs of klipschs after having my diamonds for a little while that were five hundred and six hundred dollars and they sounded like they were in plastic enclosures and the highs were not nearly as nice as the 8.2's. also the bass was no better than the 8.2's.

i also listen to a pair of boston a. that were about four hundred that sounded pretty good, better than the klipsch, but they looked dumb, the port was in the back, same as the klipsch and they werent any better than my diamonds.

overall im very happy i got the 8.2s. i havent found anything that looks better, sounds better or is made better than the 8.2's for double the price. b&w makes some speakers like the 8.2's but they cost almost twice the price and ive read that they can sound harsh at times. bi-wire your diamonds though if you do get them, i havent yet but im sure they will sound even better!!! i running then off a hundred watts per channel and they sound just fine. all i can recommend is that you check em out at the store or make sure you can return them were ever you buy them. no way im returning mine.

Strength:

Competent sound with good dynamics

Weakness:

Obvious lack of midrange presence

I concur with the earlier reviewer who said buy better or be satisfied with these for the price. The MFM 3's or 5's can be had for about $80 to $90 more a pair and are in a different category. Even the MFM 1's at almost the same price point sound better than these Anniversary's. These do well for those on a budget whose ears are not spoiled. They do sound fairly good, but lack midrange.

Strength:

adequate,better than most cheap speakers

Weakness:

not enough sonic detail, they are not transparent,

Well lets straighten this out. unless you have a powerful mini-system these speakers wont work. they require abut 35-40 watts before they become linear. at this point they do sound adequate. I removed the bic 736 towers from my rears to audition these 7.2s, and if you have the option, use the towers, I found that as good as the 7.2s sound, they did lack detail when matched against the towers, the clarity just isnt there. If you're on a budget, these are ok. However Ive heard KLH bookshelves for $99 retail that hands down are better in every way. I know a lot of people who wont even look at KLH because they equate the name to cheap speakers.. the same way people look at BIC's. Save some money and at least check out KLH and BIC.

Strength:

IAG Toll-Free Tech Support; diminutive size; workmanship;
and deeply discounted price. Diamond 7.2 Anniversary Speakers

Weakness:

Mid-range is not easily discernable. Treble "trembles" with
harshness at above average listening levels.

I'm back ....

O.K. -- I've listened to my Diamond 7.2 Anniversary Speakers
and for $88.00 I really should not complain. Overall sound
quality is better than standard mini-system speakers. Consequently, the Diamond's should be considered for this
purpose. These speakers are also appropriate for a den and/or sitting small sitting room. It's not likely, however,
you will be "wowed" by their sound quality. The word "audiophile" connotates -- high end or high quality.
The Diamond Anniversary 7.2's are not likely to win a JD Power award for excellence. Nevertheless, for $88.00 and
some aggravation -- UBid.com deserves an applause.

Finally, the guys working for Wharfedale at AIG are professional, courteous, and happy to talk about speakers
much like a sports commentator talks sports. Save your sales invoice. The warranty period is 3 years. Manufacturing of the Wharfedale line moved to China in 1999.
Does that make an appreciable difference? Not in overall
workmanship -- as far as I can tell.

The bottom line: Spend more and get more. Spend less than
$100 and be happy with the Diamond 7.2 Anniversary pair.
Not a bad deal taking everything into consideration.

Strength:

great sound for the size and price

Weakness:

it may just be me, but I think that they sound a little flat on some highs

Good for the money. Almost as good overall. If you are looking for reliable cheap speakers that sound bigger and better than they are, this set is worth looking into

Strength:

Smooth frequency response, low bass extension for a bookshelf speaker.

Weakness:

None given the genre.

I have the Diamond 7.2 Anniversary Model in Oak. These speakers have really clean, balanced sound at an amazing price (if you order from Amazon.com). The bass extension (down to 40hz) makes a subwoofer an option rather than a necessity. They look nice, too, although I wish Amazon had had them in Teak. :-( Highly recommended to anyone looking for great sound at a reasonable price.

If you would like to see the frequency response curve for these speakers, go to Wharfedale's UK site (www.wharfedale.co.uk), go to Diamond Anniversary and download the PDF brochure. The chart is not labeled, but the smoother of the two curves is the on-axis response at one meter.

Strength:

great, tight bass response for such small speakers. sound bigger then they are. Price. Just about everything about them.

Weakness:

none at this price.

These are excellent speakers for the price. these are the first wharfedale products that i have used and so far i am very pleased. I dont see where the previous reviewers are coming from when they talk of lack of bass and cheap build. Since when did $120 bookshelf speakers have real wood cabinets and bass response that extended to below 40 hz? And how many other speakers would not break after being dropped on the floor? My only gripe with these speakers would be the fact that the treble can be a bit too brilliant at louder volume levels. This is hardly a problem though at the low price level. Sure the woofers may clip if too much bass is pumped into them. But this can be solved by adding a sub to your system and setting the wharfedales to small. the csw basscube 8 blends beatifully with these bookshelves. Id recommend these speakers to anyone looking for great surrounds or even main speakers. Not a minute has gone by that i regret my purchase.

This speaker is amazing for its price. The vocals are lively, the bass is tight and more than sufficient for its size. The the tweeter could use some more "tish" or "ting" but is quite sufficient for me. There are other brands out there that would do more but would also cost much more. Recommendable entry level speakers. Definitely worth 4 stars for me.
