Weakness:

Not as detailed in the higher frequencies...
(May depend on the rest of my system)

A great allround speaker....
A bought them second hand... had looked serveral years to find a good second hand buy...
I don´t really know if it makes a different.. but mine are
called TDL RTL3 Speciel Edition... more "gold" screws and a big gold plated sign on the front of each speaker...

Similar Products Used:

...Quite similiar to Audio Pro Black Diamond, but with a little more "physical" bass.

I have been using a pair of TDL RTL3's for 18 months now and i'm very impressed with them. I drive them with an AUDIOLAB 8000C Pre-Amp and 4 x ROTEL RB970 Power-Amps with QED Silver 12 Cable. My main source is a RDD/RDP980 Transport & DAC also from ROTEL.

The RTL3's really do benefit from being Bi-Amped and also you must spike them to the floor or the Bass will really start to boom and detract from the music.

The sound quality is very good and the soundstage is excellent. Bass is thunderous and tight but the treble can sometimes be a bit bright. Other than that, they are excellent and I would recommend them to anyone.

e-mail me at mick@d-evans.karoo.co.uk for more information.

Strength:

Endless undistorted bass.

Weakness:

Treble could be a little more precise.

Good all rounders from classical to heavy rock. Replaced standard tweeters for Morels - though had to bore out a bigger hole. Replacement parts can be obtained from Wilmslow Audio on 01455 286603 or vist www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk

Good luck.

Strength:

great bass, powerful sound

Weakness:

tend to run a bit hot, more suited to rock and dance than more subtle music

I have been happily using these speakers with the rotel pre/power set up (rc/rb970mk11) and the marantz cd63se. Unfortunately I need new tweeters for the rtl3's and I have just discovered that the company is sadly no longer with us. What a shame! Does anyone know where I can get hold of tweeters and other spare parts for the speakers please?

Any response would be hugely appreciated

please email me on jonpeaple@totalise.net

I bought this speaker about 2 years ago. This is a really great speakers in term of value. I have auditioned Mission 752, Mission 753 and Mission 751 before buying this TDL speakers. This TDL has very warm and musical sound. It has good soundstage and deep. But remember, please use quality audiophile amp for this speaker as it give lot of differences when different sources are used. Easy to drive and in simple term, very sound-friendly. The only thing that I hate this speakers is the size. Too big.

beats missions hands down imho, good stuff.driving it with rotel bridged amps left/right 180 watts each with rotel
preamp (all 971s), nakamichi cd4 and audiotechnica cables (cheap).
i compare this set to my friends complete naim (very expensive) and
i got to say this set is able to hold it own.
however, i prefer it to be bigger and more tweeters and stuff so that
i can play it louder.....but then again its cheap...

I use these with a Cyrus II amp and Marantz CD63 CD player.A large relaxed bass. This can sound over-heavy on some modern CDs (try Bjork's Hyperballad) but is superb on classical and 'big-band' stuff like Burt Bacharach and Herb Alpert.
Drums sound as close to the real thing as I've heard - a lot of more expensive speakers seem to give an over-tight, thumpy, sound.
Be careful with positioning. I watched Stargate with these positioned in a corner and thought the house was going to collapse!

These TDL speakers are a bargain at £400, I have editioed it against many speakers, but nothing came even close to its big clean sound. The only quible that it ciuld sound a bit bright at times and maybe not the tighttest around. Though the base is as deep and big as anything and the treble is very clear. These are speakers that are best with big orchestra music as well as dance/rock music.
