Strength:

Speakers sound very good at any volume, I see people are complaining because they don't have very good bass. They are not meant to play very low bass. That's why I have a Sony SA-WM250 a 100w SubWoofer. That thing I don't like about the speakers is that they don't have a CrossOver. I don't know what Sony was thinking but at least the tweeter has a capacitor and the Mid Range has a resistor to block low frequencies, the woofer does not have a filter so it fills on the rest of the frequencies that it can process. Over all sounds good but could sound better with a cross Over. Even though no Cross Over is built in to them it's ok, because my Sony STR-DH550 Receiver has a Microphone that can be used to calibrate the Frequencies and level of each speaker independently.

Weakness:

Bought 4 of these speaker for $80. thinking about making crossovers for all of them.

HI.
This speaker dont have crossover and have a tweeter of 6Ohm, mid range os 16Ohm and a woofer of 8Ohm, this is a mess...

For atenuate this mixed of impedance, have instaled an a atenuator for mid range, have instaled a new tweeter and a new woofer (the old tweeter is damadge)...

After this Upgrade the speakers sounds great.
I have a friend it works in JBL service and have disegned the crossover and atenuator, I dont ask How they did, but is sounds great.

Sorry for my English

Strength:

Good highs and lows
Great Buy

Weakness:

cant handle stereo systems well i have to keep it up half way or they will crack at a higher level

Wow what a steal I was on a tight buget but I wanted a good pair of floorstanding speakers so I went to best buy and saw a couple of pairs that I liked but when I saw the sony SSMF315 towers I just fell over not really but you know what I mean I looked up all the specifications and all met my standards So I bought them took them home hooked them up to my Hometheater system also a sony rated at 1652 watts and I was impressed by the bass they put out at only 150 wattsbut it wasnt enough So I hooked up the Sony SAW305 sub woffer and bam! what a great combo The rich deep bass was magnificant i would give these sony SSMF315 towers a 9/10

Strength:

Price and good sound.

Weakness:

Not an audiophile speaker, but pretty darn good.

This is a very good sounding speaker, not just for the price, but good period. I found a few at Best Buy that were better, but not so very much better and at $200 to $400 more. I thought these sounded better than their MF515 sisters. They're also compact compared to typical towers so they're good when space is at a premium and/or make a great 2nd pair. The bass response is incredible considering the size; I was looking around to see if they sneakily hooked up a subwoofer somewhere. I don't know how they can get the bass out of a 6.5" woofer, my best guess would be the port and bass reflex design. I really can't give these a 5 since considering the importance of speakers, as much money as possible should be spent on sound quality, but for value, $140/pair, these speakers really deserve a 10.

Strength:

Only $40 each at bestbuy.com, slim, good mid and high

Weakness:

Weak bass

I got these right after bestbuy.com was up and running, and they HALF off!!! When I first tried them in my living room they sounded great, however they do need some supporting bass from the sub woofer. And then I moved them into my small decicated movie room (Size 10 X 10), they sound quality seemed to decrease, especially the bass. But I think that is because of the combination of room acoustics, cheap wiring and my reciever. But I arrived at the conclusion that they are great speakers for producing high and mid frequency sounds, and a bit of low frequency sound, when supported by a sub woofer they are great.

I rate their performance as a 4, but for $40 each they deserve a 5 overall.

BTW, you can get them at bestbuy.com at $70 each now, and you can pick them up at the store without paying shipping.

sound good,nice bass,clear highs

Weakness:

6.5in woofer,ss-mb215 are better and cheaper

I havent bought these speakers but ive heard them and for the sound and price the SS-MB215's are better.the are smaller than the towers, cheaper and dont get distorted at all.The 215's have an 8 in woofer and are acc.sus.Im not saying that the 315's arent good im just saying that in my opinion the 215 bookshelfs are better for the price and sound.

Strength:

Cheap, sound pretty good for the dough

Weakness:

Can't handle what they're rated for (not even close).

I bought these in November, starting off with a Sony STR-DE435 receiver and these speakers (from Best Buy, like a lot of people). I was fairly impressed at first, they don't really sound half-bad, and are punchy at lower volumes. Problem is if you want to start winding the volume knob to the right, they take a thrashing. The receiver was making some funky noise, so it went back, and in dropped a Technics SA-404 (mid 70's vintage 45 or so WPC receiver) as a replacement til I got the Sony back. Hell, the little Tech can hurt these things, easily pushing the 6.5" driver at the bottom til it's out of suspension and slapping, at just past half-way on the dial. I'm not a bass-junkie that listens to rap, I listen to rock, but sometimes loudly, and the 6.5"s get beaten hard trying to keep up with the mid and tweeter. Added a 12" sub to fill the low end out. They just can't handle any power, though. Supposedly, these speakers can take 140W peak, but there would be cones lying on the floor first. Currently, they sit behind a Kenwood KR-9600 (160 WPC mid-late 70s monster) with careful volume control.. the amp in this tank's bass-happy, and rapes the speakers even harder, but I'm just borrowing it to play around with. At any rate, these will be replaced soon with Klipsch Heresys, and the receiver will be replaced with a McIntosh amp down the road some time.. guess I'm turning into an audiophile, my tastes in equipment are getting progressively more expensive!

These speakers are a good buy if you have a low (under 100W) powered receiver, and don't like to play volume jockey, or you will be really disappointed. They get loud, but the 6.5" drivers wimp out way early.. for TV usage, they'd be cool, though, or maybe rear-channel surround.

Strength:

Verry clear sound and bass for speakers meant for voice only.Infact speakers sound like if they were big speakers.

Weakness:

Well handling power could be a little higher but I have not had any problems of wanting more power.

When I went to buy some speakers for voice I found these sony and since they were the less expensive I went and heard them..Well these speakers sound xcelent for the price, sound is even better than ones double the price, and if the speakers dont sound better they sound a lot more clear than the others. If you dont want to spend a lot of money and want to speakers for Dvd and Music then this is the best buy for clear sound and good bass, Infact I dont see any reason to buy more xpensive ones but if you dont belive me and dont want to buy these ones they buy The sony SS-MF415 wich should cost you 250 each. If you think that Boos Is better and you want top of the line sound in your home then the best speakers you could buy are $_,000 each and they are Sony ES SS-M9ED go here and see them http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/consumer/ss5/generic/homeaudioes/esloudspeakers/index.shtml
