Strength:

powerful bass and solid cabnit construction

Weakness:

tweeter can sizzle and sound strained on some music

good speaker for price (220/pr.). however, if i was looking for another small speaker i would look elsewhere. also the dealer i purchased the titans from did not believe in customer service after the sale, this detail should be considered before purchasing any home audio product.

EXCELLENT bass for the size, that mid-bass hump just really got in the way and significantly muddied up the midrange. I didn't really like the way it look or the design- It performs but was not very stylish. No other complants. jt

First, I'd like to apologize for the double entry but I inadvertenly closed my review before I finished. That said, I just had to comment on the durability of the Titans. The Titans withstood a 6ft fall off the shelf I had them on when they "walked" off the edge due to wall vibrations created by the subwoofer. Twice! Other than a small blemish to the edge of the grill the Titans still crank!. No rattles, distortion, or damage was sustained...performs like new! If this isn't a clear case of Paradigm's excellent build quilty I don't know what is. THIS IS A TRUE STORY!!
Since then I have secured them down with velcro...yes velcro! If you want to elimiate "walking" bookshelf speakers due to cranking them up or just make sure they don't...then try this inexpensive tip...works extremely well. Honest!!

Strength:

tame high-end works well with price-respective systems, accurate bass

Weakness:

highs become congested when pushed

These speakers are great. not only do they work well with reciever based systems, but hold up when the rest of the system is upgraded. Bass is pretty tight although there is a slight midbass hump, although it is my taste to be too warm then too sterile. Midrange is reasonably accurate overall, great for the price. When really pushed, they can sound a bit congested. Great speakers if you occasionally like to really turn it up. Mistakenly sent over 1400 watts to each for a little over a minute without any damage. They even almost keep up with my he-man sub, an 18' PA sub with 1200 watts.

Strength:

Strong bass, "big" sound, good midrange.

Weakness:

So-so soundstage, boomy bass, non-removeable grills.

These speakers are a good value for the money, having a very authoritative sound quality, reasonably high volume levels, and good midrange. The highs are a little unnatural and sizzly. Bass is strong, but somewhat boomy and boxy. Construction quality is average for such an inexpensive speaker (in other words, just okay). Overall, I give them four stars for the price ( I got them for approx. $180/pr).

Strength:

Best sound, Lowest price--Quite a combo

Weakness:

Build

Have been listening to entire showrooms full of stuff for two weeks now. Def Techs sound pretty good for micro system. Energy Take 5 ain't as good as the reviews (damn). Titans sound like a real, accurate, clean, full-range speaker. Far and away the best speakers in the room including the $2000 towers.

Strength:

Good highs, very clean response, excellent bass for a speaker of its size.

Weakness:

none

These speakers are great. The have a very clean response. They not only handle any music you give them, they do it with ease. They have terrific bass response, especially for a speaker that is 13"*8"*10". I got these speakers on sale at a local audio store for $166 for the pair. I dont think I could have gotten a better pair of speakers for that price. I am planning on also getting the paradigm pdr-10 subwoofer, I have heard good things about it as well. I feel that Paradigm is one of the best values in speakers today.

Strength:

Amazing sound, amazing price

Weakness:

Zero.

I did a search for bookshelf entry level high quality speakers for about a month and a half all over the places I could reach (Pensacola, Mobile, New Orleans, Internet, friends' systems). Had a chance to compare the Titans with the minimonitors and B&W's in the actual listening room of All Pro Sound using Pioneer Elite receivers. (I want to specially thank Hula for all his help, patience and great professional service at All Pro Sound).

The minimonitors to me sounded almost exactly the same as the Titans except for the extra bass power which to my taste is a little too much. In my humble opinion the Titans sound more realistic and clear than the Minimonitors when playing for instance Diana Krall's "My love is a mountainside". Having a flat response from the receivers, the Minimonitors play a bass with slightly more power that the actual musical instrument would project I think. With the Titans it sounded as if the bass player was plucking the strings of the actual instrument right there in front of you. (Titans and Minimonitors are ported speakers, so maybe their placement relatively close to the walls was influencing this).

The B&W's 602 actually lacked a little bit of bass compared to the Titans, even though they were nicely open in the higher ranges. The B&W's are way more expensive, though granted, they look really nice, but still I was happier with the sound coming out from the Titans.

The speakers that I found sounded closest to the Titans (to my taste after all) were the Infinity ILX10's. I heard those several times in Circuit City stores with Harmon Kardon 510 receivers (actually I think this receiver is particularly outstanding, its sound quality probably "helped" the ILX10's I think). But the ILX10's are more than twice the price of the Titans, and much bigger, and actually to my taste they don't look too good. Still they were the ones I would put closest to the Titans in overall sound.

I never had a chance to hear the NHT Super Ones which were the other choice I wanted to try, but after listening to the Titans and all these other speakers I didn't need to.

I have my Titans as fronts connected to a Marantz SR-4000 receiver and my DVD/CD player is actually a Playstation2 game console. This is arguably the best value/best sounding entry level entertainment system you could conceive.

I live in a relatively small apartment, with the awesome Titans it really seems I have a subwoofer. Actually even at volumes of 25 (over 50) of the receiver, if I use recordings by U2 or Cherry Poppin Daddies I cannot dare to turn the volume up any bit or press the "loudness" button on the Marantz unless I really want to shake the building and get in real trouble with the neighbors.

That power and loudness doesn't come at the expense of any sound quality or clarity at all though. I have Diana Krall singing and playing her piano right there in my living room any time I want, the most amazingly clear and enjoyable reproductions. Arguably I live in a Jazz club now (and also on a rock band stage, in a Gregorian Church, an opera concert hall, a chamber music enclosure... :-)

Strength:

The price!, Sound, and quality.

Weakness:

Should have checked these out sooner!!

I have heard many bookshelf speakers in my day, but these little gems take the cake. I would reccomend these speakers for those audiophiles out there that want a solid upgrade from the mass-market speakers like Polk or Bose at a great price. The titans list for about $225 This speaker is comprized of the ever popular 6.5" woofer and 1" metal tweeter. This happens to be a vary popular configuration in bookshelf speakers. No! will not be able to crank out the Black Sabbath at concert volumes, but show me a bookshelf speaker that can. The midrange is very smooth and hangs in there with some of the more expensive 2 ways I have heard. The bass only reaches down to a usable 50Hz, so a sub will be needed if you plan to use them for vary demanding bass heavy music like synth-pop or heavy metal. The only short comming that the Titans have is the highs are a touch bright at high volumes. I am using an old Sanui 3000A receiver with the Titans and it seems to operate best with small amps like this. All in all, a good entry level bookshelf speaker that sounds great and will leave you with some money in your pocket to buy some new cd's.
