Strength:

Isubmitted my review in the studio 60 instead of 60 v.2 section, so here it is again.
Sound clear, balanced, excellent detail, well built

Weakness:

none yet

I am driving these speakers with a Rogue AUDIO 99 Pre-amp and the detail and soundstage is awesome!
I wanted speakers that didnt have large enclosures in my livingroom but had great sound, these speakers do that. I also got them in the black finish which reduces there visual size more and look slim and elegant. The bass is exactly right, there when it needs to be.

Strength:

Imaging, overall kick, great midrange, soundstage!

Weakness:

none for what I purchased it for.

I purchased these speakers after looking around for the last years to replace my Klipsch Floorstanding KG-3's. I loved my Klipsch speakers and was sad to let them go (I really think the horn tweeter does amazing things with jazz music). However, the imaging and soundstage on them left something to be desired.

So, after auditioning a few different speakers the Paradigms won my ears over. They are a great well balanced speaker. Amazing mid and high ranges. Good bass. I see how some reviewers might not have the lows they want for some home theater uses looking for the big boom without a sub woofer, but for music they excel. They are very neutral and natural and handle any type of music with ease.

I can sit down on my couch, close my eyes and have no idea where the music is coming from. Amazing soundstage and imaging, instruments come out from everywhere. I have yet to kick them up to a high level but at moderate listening (the most important level IMHO) they kick butt. I am sure pushed they will also have outstanding performance. And they look great (I got a great deal on the real wood ones finished in cherry)

My system:

NAD 760
Paradigm 60's
Sony (I forget the version) DVD/CD Player
Kimber Kable speaker wire

Strength:

Flat responce, lows into the lower 30's, great image, very neutral, solid cabinet

Weakness:

none

I back these babies with top notch gear and they responded. They took a while to breakin and you have to push them a little, but they respond with great sound. As a music speaker they provide an excellent flat response, down to about 31hz in my room. For HT I cross them over to a sub for that extra kick. Mid are pure, Highs are detailed.

I recently had an oppertunity to listen to the various models from the B&W 800 series. They were driven by a complete Mark Livengston stack etc etc...

Although they sounded great, I left that day with a good feeling inside, for I own a pair of Paradigm Studio 60s, which, for 1/10th of the price I almost enjoy listening to more.

Maybe its placement, but I'm sure that they took the time to place the 801s...Maybe its electronics...but I don't think my homemade stuff should beat Livingston, Maybe my ears are just flawed. But overall, I got boared listening to the 801s. Perhaps its because the paradigms just tend to be incredibly dynamic, I don't know.

However in follow up to many other reviews...
I thought my speakers were broken-in after about a month.
I was wrong, the longer that you play them, the more the tweeter sounds like a soft-dome. They lose all brightness after about 3 months, and thats after mine were a dealer floor model...

These are sensational speakers. The have tight bass deep bass and great mid range. I don't think you can find a better speaker in this price range. Hook these speakers up with a bi-wire set up and give them about a 50 hours to brake in. You can't go wrong with any Pargdigm product.

Strength:

You name it

Weakness:

none that I can hear

This is just a quick update to my previous post. I recently upgraded my system, connecting an external amplifier to my receiver and bi-amping the reference 60s. The amp is picked up is a Harman Kardon PA5800, I use 4 channels to bi-amp my 60s, and the 5th to run my cc center.

To those who have the opportunity to do such a thing, I HIGHLY recommend it! I'm hearing clarity is bass/mids/highs that is simply astounding. I really think these speakers deserve high quality amplification. Bi-amp them if you can, you won't be disappointed. Great, great speakers.

I auditioned many speakers, including Monitor 5i, NHT 2.5, Mirage FRX-7, Energy C-6, and others. For my personal taste I liked the Paradigm Ref 60 the best. I loved the clarity and precision of the Monitors but you may as well not leave the store without a sub. Same with the Mirage. The NHT and the Energy's are great, though the Energy's are a bit boomy. But MY EARS liked the Paradigm sound the best. I love them more every day.
My advice: Take all of these reviews with a grain of salt and go listen for yourself.

Strength:

Beautiful Balance, Mid Range sings.

Weakness:

Slightly fatigueing (sp). Some may want a little more bass.

These speakers are beautiful. When I popped in "Dark Side of the Moon" on these baby's, the album just came alive. The highs are very detailed, and the mids are extremely warm. The bass can be thin at times, but I compensate by pulling the lows on my receiver may up, regardless, I don't listen to a whole lot of "bassy" music.

I use these for about 35% music and 65% HT, and I must say that they are awesome, especially if you get the matching Center Channel with them.

Please give these a listen of your are looking at speakers in this price range. The warmth of these speakers is just awesome!

Strength:

Solid cabinet, nice spikes, compact size, true upper mid's and lower highs

Weakness:

compressed sound at high levels, a little twesyness on the top end

they take a while to warmup. like many speakers that reveal what is behind it, they make great recordings sound that way and poor ones ugly. Back them with good gear and you'll get very pleasent results. a little sensitive to placement.

Strength:

Very crisp, clean, fast, detailed. Throw an excellent soundstage/image. Instrument and voice sound very natural in timber. Excellent construction of cabinet and drivers.

Weakness:

Internal wiring eats into the rest of the quality components. Replace it!

I've always been a fan of Paradigms, mainly because I feel they offer sound so similar to the the true and natural timbre of voice and acoustic insturments, and their wonderful imaging and detail. I formerly had some Ref 20s, which were super-clean. I took them home and just could not top them with any of the speakers above...way more detail and speed, precision and imaging. The waterfall chart on the Ref 20s in stereophile was as clean as I'd seen on most any speaker at any price. I wired them up with DH Labs Biwired T-14 before becoming a DH Labs dealer...what a wonderful combo! They were zippy with the Kimber I used previously, then became smooth, detailed, and extended in the highs, as well as very liquid and full.

I dug out the crappy copper internal wire and replaced it with DH Labs T-14...wow, such new sparkle and openness!

Got the new Ref 60s...barely used, with veneer sides. Nice build and looks! Equipment in front of it is all very nice...I switch off at times between a couple of transports, DACs, and amps, and the Paradigms really respond to good equipment matching. Something was missing though with the new 60s...something blurry about them compared to my old Ref 20s.

Got in there one day and rewired the bass and mid with 12 gauge DH Labs Silver Sonic wire, and 14 gauge to the tweeter. There it was...the missing link! Wonderful sound. Highly regarded Meadowlark wires internally with DH Labs as well by the way, all the way up to their $2400 model. It's really worth it on these if as DIY if you know what you are doing (DON'T if you don't know what your doing!--have a competent tech do it). Also, start with the external cable upgrade before you do the insides. The DH Labs is really a lovely choice for these or any of the Reference line. It might be fun to change a cap or two in the high pass filters, though I don't want them to become too bright.

Really, these speakers, as any in the Reference line, are very hard to beat, if you match them with good equipment and cables, and take the time to work with their placement. Maybe there is something better out their in the price range, but I really haven't found it, so I think I'll give it a 5 overall. I didn't think the B&Ws could beat them until you went at least into the Nautalis line.
