Strength:

Great mids, overall a great sounding speaker with a great sound stage, the speaker doesn''t stress under pressure.

Weakness:

Not much, the highs are very good, but everything else is great so I guess relatively that''s a weakness.

I compared these to the BMW 603 S3 and 604 S3. I found these to be great. I had my mind set on the 603s and this speaker showed me what I was missing. It has much better low end than the 603 and more stable mids when blasting lots of watts. I did prefer the highs of the 603 at normal listening volume though. I ended up with the B&W 604 S3. In my mind the 604 beat the Paradigm just like the Paradigm beat the 603 and the 604 costs the same. I''m no audiophile but I made my judgement based on the following: The B&Ws bass sounded smoother and lasted a bit longer (i.e. trailing into the lower frequencies) I preferred the B&Ws highs. I sampled many CDs, to me the most obvious was ironically one of the least "audiophile" CDs, Radiohead''s Idiotech (spelling?). There are some pretty wierd highs going on as the bass is blasting and the B&W really shined clearly while I thought the Paradigm sort of muddied the sound. I encourage others familiar with this music to try this. The mids of the Paradigm shined. They were noticably better (even for me) than the 603 but still not better than the 604. Overall I think this is a superb speaker that represents a great value. At that value I feel there is one better option but it could come down to what you prefer. I would recommend anyone interested in B&W audition the Paradigm and vice-versa.

Sound: all bass, mid, and highs; look; value

Weakness:

none found

I must say I could not listen to many speakes after I've heard these. None of the other ones could match.

I'm listening to almost all kinds of music, but mostly electronic, techno, dance. And these speakers are the best for it. Great power, very natural balance of bass mid and highs. With the Rotel RCD 991 which I've got for them it feels like they go down to 10-15 Hz.

Speakers are equally great for music and movies. The bass is so good I'm not looking for sub to go with them.

I could try to explain here how great the speakers sound, but I would rather highly recommend to actually listen to them.

Also, if you like the kind of music I do I would recommend the components that would make a very balanced, excellent value system:
* For cables I actually had three sets and JPS Labs Biwire Ultraconductors could not be matched by anything else;
* A great amp to feed these speakers is Acurus A125x5, but 100W Rotel 9-hundred series was pretty close too.
* For preamp that would do very good for techno music, especcially in surround modes Acurus ACT3 is the one. For little less you can get Rotel 9-hundred series (sorry for forgeting the number)
* With nice DAC of Acurus act3 you can do with any CD that has digital out, but Rotel RCD 991 (which might not sound very good with other speakers) just does magic when used with Studio 60s.

Yes, and don't forget to put these speakers at least 2 feet from rear wall and 1 feet from side walls.

Studio 60 v2 are the best speakers I ever had.
with a price at $1200 you can't go wrong. I have listened
to alot of speakers with prices a lot higher and it could
not compare to the studio 60. The sound is increadble and
the bass is deep. I had to play all my cd's all over again.
If your looking for a pair of great sounding speakers at
a great price, then studio 60s are for you.

where do i start?

Weakness:

none so far

i just pulled them out of the box so iv'e got MAYBE 4 hours on them. breath-taking depth, outstanding soundstage and just an overall feeling of bliss!! i've had the chance to put my ear to the M9's (for 30 hours or so) and the 40's (for 25 hours or so) and enjoyed them both but this is truly the best of both worlds! great bottom end (same holds true with the 9's) but with the overall sound quality light years ahead. i believe they would have to rate in the top 5 picks in the "under-a-grand" speaker. (i would really have no way of knowing with there being so many brands out there) but i am quite confident that i got more that my money's worth!!! (988 usd + tax) go listen for yourself and be ready! ready to be laid back with a powerful and precise speaker. i'll post again after 50 hours or so. Enjoy!!

Can't think of any compared to what we listened to

I am currently using a Denon AVR 2800, not really the best receiver for the level of speaker that I have been listening to, but fine for now. I plan to upgrade. My wife and I listened to many speakers using a wide variety of music that I supplied. After we ruled out several speakers, we did an in home listening test and determined that the Paradigm Studio 60s were our favorites. We played several tracks from Santana's latest CD, Diana Krall, Michael Brecker and one symphonic CD. Each speaker had good things and bad things..., the Michael Breaker CD in particular gave many speakers trouble. There is a walking base line that they just didn't handle well. The final three were the Tannoy Saturn's, Energy A300 and the Paradigms. The Tannoys and Paradigms were incredible close...you will of course have to use your own ears and test your own music to decide for sure. Trust your ears.

Strength:

Amazing natural sound, detailed treble and clean, powerful bass.

Weakness:

After listening to these speakers, most everything else sounds unsatisfactory.

I had been speaker shopping for almost a month, looking for a solution to be used for 70% music, 30% home theater. After going to store after store and hearing Definitive, PSB, and Totem, I was thoroughly unimpressed. My old Paradigm Monitor 5's that I use at home sounded better than all of them in my opinion. I then heard some B&W's, which sounded very good to me, although they seemed a little expensive. I was impressed but by no means blown away. They were excessively bright and lacked the listening ease of Paradigm's Studio line. That same day I heard the Studio 60's and 100's, and I immediately knew these were the speakers for me. They were amazingly detailed and sounded very natural. The Studio 60's, which retailed at around $1400 CDN, sounded worlds better than some $2500 CDN B&W CDM's that I had just listened to hours earlier. The Studio 100's to me sounded no different than the 60's except that they had slightly more enveloping bass. For my taste I preferred the 60's, as they were cleaner and boasted tighter bass while maintaining the fullness of the sound. These speakers are immaculate, and there is nothing that compares to them even at twice its price.

Amazing pace and rhythm. Good neutral balance. Great build quality. Nice clean sound!

Weakness:

I don't have them yet...

Well this is a love affair that will soon see its send. For the past 8 years, I have not had funds enough to realize my dream of a two channel system. After much hemming and hawing (audio people seem to do this alot), I have finally settled on these babies. I'll be getting them soon, and I cannot write down all of the superlatives that describe these "budget speakers". A while back (when this all started) I had looked at Thiel CS 1.5s, 2.3s, and even the 3.5s. They were amazing, but to assemble a Thiel HT/2Channel Setup would require more funds than I currently have for audio. Sure I could do the 2nd mortgage, but that's still a bunch (given no amp and no SSP/Pre). They had great detail, but I didn't want to pay for all of that, especially since the paradigms deliver 99% of this at a small fraction of the price. After the Thiels, I was into the Stratus series from PSB. Another nice set, but I had a few issues with the midrange. It just didn't quiet sound on target with what I was going for. While listening to the PSBs, I wasn't smiliing. Then came Martin Logan. Breathtaking detail and image, but I felt there was a stutter between bass and uppers. Then Vandersteen, then Proac (which were very pretty looking, although the sound was slightly reticent). Then came Avalon, too much, Dynaudio (great speakers too), and finally Meadowlark. All the while, I had thought that the original Studio 60s sounded good, but I felt that it was hard to tell how they would do in my "imperfect" room (as opposed to the store have room treatments and other speakers for added resonance). Lots of times, speakers would sound good at the store and then overly bright at home. I have pretty thick carpet, but it just didn't work out. Around last summer is when I finally heard the v2's. The initial pair of the Reference series was a set of 100's. Wow they were dynamic, but they are were bit big for my space. Bass was great though, and anyone looking to spend 3 times as much ought to at least listen to them. Then I checked out the Studio 80's. I like the 8, but it was also too big. And finally, just like goldilocks, I found the 60s. Just right...
They handle well on just about everything, and the bass suits my tastes just fine. Besides, anything that I will be feeding them that would drop out (as far as low frequencies) will be sent on down to either a Servo 15 or a PW2200. (I am leaning PW2200 for budgetary and room concerns due to a) size, and b) I don't want to upset my neighbors as they are pretty close). I figured that I would just forget having a straight 2 channel setup as Home Theater brings the whole family together. This system will also include a CC center and maybe ADP surrounds (for now, I am still out there on Studio 20s versus the dipoles).

Back to the 60's. Midrange on these guys is absolutely breathtaking. The first time I listened, I started tapping my feet. Now, Dire Straits is good music to do this to, but I hadn't done this (or at least noticed I was doing this) during any prior speaker auditions. That for me was a good sign. Treble has the "sparkle" that magazines like Stereophile speak of without being to zippy. (All very scientific terms, I know). Cymbals sound like cymbals and not white noise, and even my wife commented that her Sarah McLachlan CD sounded good - another plus.

So what are the negatives, one might ask...
I can't really find any. One minor detail is that I noticed a bit ( a small bit) of compression at really loud levels (I don't even listen to HT at levels high enough to reveal this). This ocurred when the dealer put in some Jazz and cranked it up. (Not too sure why some dealers always play jazz loud - I listen at standard unamped levels)...

Oh, and I almost forgot, build quality is superb. Getting either the wood or the laminate makes a price difference, but I think that either way you go is cool. I'll be sticking with the wood, light cherry most likely.
I'll try to post a follow up when they arrive and are broken in, I might just be too busy enjoying them though.

Strength:

wonderful sound, clean look, nice price

Weakness:

extra-wide binding posts (only a problem if you have existing cables with standard spade plugs)

After I upgraded my receiver last year, the inherent weaknesses in my old Bose speakers became painfully apparent, and I began looking for new speakers. I looked at Definitive for a while (the bipolar towers and bipolar powertowers) -- considered the BP-2004 and auditioned the BP-10 a couple times. Then I was pointed toward the Studio/60's. Wonderful. When I eventually got a pair home and hooked up, I was very pleased. Break-in took a while, and a fortuitous cable upgrade helped really bring out the full potential in these speakers (I had them biwired with Home Depot 12ga initially until I could get better cables and could tell that they had more to offer, then stumbled upon some Transparent MusicWave Supers that brought out everything they had). Plans to add a subwoofer have been shelved indefinitely -- these handle music and movies wonderfully all by themselves.

I'll be keeping these around for a long time to come. If you're looking for good quality speakers in the $1000 to $2000 price range, check these out. You may take a pair home.

Strength:

Excellent Soundstage, imaging, and price

Weakness:

None

I've listened to a lot of much more expensive speakers and I can honestly say that I think the reference 60's are better sounding. These are very natural sounding speakers at any volume with an incredible soundstage both in width and depth. The imaging is absolutely pinpoint. I could not find any speakers in this price range that were as nice sounding. Mine came with one bad tweeter, but that was fixed right away, I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase.
