Strength:

Aesthetically Pleasing, Crisp Highs (Not To Bright), Mids and Bass Great. Amazing Speakers!

Weakness:

Wow.....do I love these speakers! My System consists of:

Paradigm Monitor 9's
Paradigm CC-350 Center
Paradigm Titans
Paradigm PDR-12
YamahaRX-V 596
Toshiba 4205 DVD Changer

It is imperitive that you get the sub with these speakers! They sound great wothout, but the sub just matches so well with the 9's. I got the Monitor 9's for about the same price as the bookshelf 602's, and frankly I prefer Paradigm.

Music: They sound outstanding with the Yamaha. They sounded even better with the Marantz in the store. I listen to everything from Rap to Dave Matthews band, and these babies are versatile enough to handle both. They get 4.5 stars on Music.

Home Theater: Even better. The Matrix comes to life with the 9's. Not much I can say except....wow again.

I have the 9's bi-wired and I recommed doing this. Thes are otustanding speakers reagardless of price.

Strength:

bass, mids, treble, imaging

Weakness:

plain looking (but not sounding)

4 months ago, I began looking for a pair of speakers to anchor my music/home theater system. One of the first speakers I auditioned was the Monitor 9. I was immediately impressed at how much accurate bass it dumped into the room (test track was "Flight of the Cosmic Hippo" by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones). Not only was the bass great, the drums and cymbal hits were rendered amazingly cleanly and crisply. The room was acoustically treated, so I thought I might have trouble getting the same results in my living room (approx. 12' x 12' x 8', wood floors). Not wanting to buy the first pair of speakers I heard, I continued my search.

As often happens, my budget began to rise... from no more than $800/pr. to around $1500/pr. There are some great speakers out there in this price range, but after hearing them and having some sense knocked into me (thanks Ken!), I decided that they really didn't sound twice as good as the Paradigms. I returned to purchase the Monitor 9s and the CC-350 (also an amazing speaker). I got all three for $990. The Monitor 9s alone would have been around $650.

When I brought them home and tore off the boxes (not literally), I spent a little time positioning them for optimal sound. Right now I have them about 12" from the back wall and toed-in about 8 degrees. When I first fored them up with my Onkyo TX-DS575 (another great value in home-theater), all possible post-buyers' remorse left my body. WOW! These speakers really put out -- and accurately, too! I went through my entire CD collection and played my favorite tracks. These speakers were great out of the box!

Now, after about 3 weeks of constant use, they sound even better. You absolutely cannot go wrong with the Monitor 9.

*A note on bass: Many people have said about their speakers, "You don't even need a subwoofer with these!" I tended not to agree with these people. I still mostly agree, but the Monitor 9 does amazingly well on its own putting out deep rumbling bass during movie explosions (such as when the helicopter crashes into the side of the high-rise in scene 31(?) of The Matrix). It's not quite gut-wrenching bass, but it does rattle the teeth.

......ummm is there such a thing with paradigm

I love these speakers!!! The Monitors were my first set of truly "high-fi" speakers and I can not stop smiling. Like most on here after the break in they only keep getting better. I originally was running a Sony DE845 reciever with a crappy Philipps DVD player for both movies and music and I was very happy with the set up. But as learned the hard way the speakers were able to reveal weakeness in my setup. I bought the Marantz SR7000 to mellow out the brightness of the Monitor 9's due to the Marantz's warmness. After my Phillips DVD blew up I added a Marantz DVD7010 which really blew me away. Not only have started hearing things in more detail, the soundstage has increased in width, depth, and in the verticle, something the Sony only hinted at. The Paradigms are able to project both laterally(I find myself looking to the left and right unexpectly:))and vertically(I find I look up at the singer now, especially Mark Knophler of Dire Straits who's voice seems to hang in the air about 5 feet up and the drums are just below and behind him).I have yet been able to turn the amp past -25db(and it goes to +10db) because its so damn loud and the Monitors don't even seem to be working all that hard. Rated at 94db they don't take much to power them. I am very impressed with these speakers and have no problem recommending them to anyone. I recommend biwiring them to help increase the seperation of highs and lows..it truly makes a difference.

My system:
Paradigm Monitor 9 mains
Paradigm CC350 center
Polk Audio...crappy but ok for rears
Marantz SR7000 reciever
Marantz DVD7010 DVD player
just normal interconnects

none of any weight

probably the best speakers available for the price. they truly sound like they should cost much more. before i bought these, i had a pair of mini-monitors (also great speakers) which i moved to rear channel. i'll be getting a paradigm center channel shortly. i never use my sub (a psb-alpha) for music, but for movies it can come in handy. some recommendations: use the spikes that come provided, it makes a difference. also, allow a little break-in time before deciding if you like them, they were a little bright when i first got them home. only real complaint: they look pretty ugly with the grills off, but that should not keep anyone from buying them.

A little large. Very deep speaker takes up consideable floorspace

These easily outperform any other speaker for less than 2k period! Imagining and realism. Large sound and great accurate bass.

best speaker for the price

These were the first speakers I ever bought that moved me and my family into another level of listening pleaure while enjoyinh movies and music more than ever before. As other posters have suggested, you don't really need a subwoofer with these, but of course, it would be nice. Consequently, I've receently bought Paradigm's PW-2200 subwoofer, along with their updated versions of dipolars and ctr. channel (ADP-370s and CC-370, respectively), and have a Denon AVR-5800 coming soon (to replace my AVR-4800), so my set-up is as good as it gets for me and mine, at least until I buy us a DVD player.

These version ones can be had on audioreview's marketplace for very little when compared to the cost of the new version twos, so get these while you can. Also, they may be big, but in the light cherry veneer finish, they are absolutely beautiful pieces of furniture!

Strength:

Excellent on vocals. Seems so real.
Movies are awesome on these babies....you dont need a sub
to appreciate the lows. The Rock and Saving Private Ryan were so realistic when I played them through my Onkyo 656 and Sony 330s. They can handle bass that shakes my living
room lights without straining.

Weakness:

the grill on my speakers kept falling off. The store
I bought them from got me new ones from the company.
They eat up floor space. So if you have a small room you
might want to go with bookshelves

Overall, I would recommend these if you like to hear clear
and rich vocals and will utilize them for a HT 5.1 system.
I have been extremely pleased

Strength:

These speakers have a very open sound to them. I auditioned well over 20 different sets of speakers and couldn't find anything under $1,500 that sounded this good.

Weakness:

I did have a little problem with one of the speaker cleats but the store I purchased them from fixed it the next day.

I am very happy with these speakers. I purchased them with the mini-monitors, LCR350 and the PS1000. I now have no privacy. I have friends coming over all the time to watch movies with me. As for music, I am just blown away.

Strength:

All around excellent sound. Very efficient for a Paradigm speaker--most efficient they make. Can be used without a sub, although not advised for HT. Will have you hearing things you haven't heard before. Originally had Mini Monitors in front but they were woefully inadequate for what I was asking of them.

Weakness:

Absolutely none yet.

Simply put: This is an excellent speaker. Which brings me to another point. Is anyone else getting annoyed with those who keep qualifying their Paradigm reviews with "for the money." Come on guys, I make $35.00 an hour and to me, these speakers are not cheap. Stop making them out to be bargain basement speakers. An $800.00 sub, $350.00 center channel, $790.00 Monitor 9s all have to be qualfied with "for the money?" Get real. These speakers are not cheap. Nor are they outrageously expensive. They are just plain and simple excellent.
