I'm 16 and listen to a lot of bass heavy music and the 9's do the job perfectly. Before I bought them I compared them to the Angstrom Omega 28's, a pair of JBL's, and a pair of Energy's. The Paradigm's sound the best with my music as well as the music provided by the store. And for the price I paid ($600 CDN) nothing else could come close. They are also perfect for digital home theatre providing near perfect dialouge clarity(I don't have a centre channel) and really deep bass. Anyone one complaining about lack of mid-range or thumpy bass doesn't know what there talking about, these speakers are perfect in almost everyway. Build quality is great, I've had no problems and I would definately recomend bi-wiring them. For kids my age looking for a high quality speaker with the ability to cover all genres of music, or a home theatre enthusiast the Monitor 9's should be first on your list. |

Here's the 411. My system in my home consists of two Paradigm Mon. 9s, one C something or other center, a PS1000 and two rear speakers, I believe Titans. I am a teenager, and I like bass, this system is PERFECT. I listen to movies on the dish and DVD all the time. it's great and the sound is perfect. I have heard no distortion from any of the speakers. The monitor 9s do a superb job with the highs and the boomy bass, although, I have the mons wired so that most of the bass is averted to the subwoofer. All of you complaining about the boomy, and bad sound quality of the Mon. 9s, must have been looking at a different speaker, these speakers are some of the best, especially for their price. |

I recently got a pair of Paradigm Monitor 9s and let me tell you: WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. They sounded OK at the dealer but once I brought them home, the nightmare begun. Paradigm has a serious quality control problem. First-off, one of the upper woofers was blown and developed serious rattle and clipping just about at any level of music. After close examination I also noticed that 2 retaining screws for that woofer were not holding at all and I could just pull them off with my fingers. After more listening I noticed that the sound image is actually shifted to one side and is not centered. After some tests, cable replacement, speaker shifting from one side to another, tone tests, I realized that one speaker has some %50 less output from the midrange and up. Probably some crossover problem. These are brand new factory sealed speakers ! |

Strength:
Everything
Weakness:
Nothing I can think of (except maybe size and weight) Being a Paradigm man, my review might be a bit biased :) These speakers are simply awesome. Coupled with my Mini-Monitors and CC-170 center channel, HT never sounded so good. Music also sounds great with these speakers. Highs are smooth, and bass is superb. Check them out. Highly recommended. Similar Products Used: NHT, B&W, other Paradigm speakers |

price, power handling, sound quality
Weakness:
a little big, fairly long break-in, placement is important I got a great deal on these speakers. I got $200 (CDN) off the price because they were "blems", but I can't find the blemish. Similar Products Used: B&W, Yamaha, Carver |

great overall sound, tight bas and very clear highs
Weakness:
none at all i have owned paradigm speakers for 9yrs now,my first were 5seMK2s.i purchased them in 1992 and last year upgraded to the moniter 9s.i love these speakers!!i have the monitor 9s matched with a 12 inch velodyne powered sub for added bass, but the 9s put out very good, tight bass on their own.even at high volume, these speakers dont get"shiny" or "bright".great finish as well.my first set of 5s sound tremendous to this day.i would highly reccomend paradigm speakers to anyone who wants high end speakers at a very fair price. huh?
Weakness:
not balanced, boomy bass i don't understand the popularity of paradigm, i honestly believe not one of the models they sell communicate the "pace" of the music. they don't sound awful but they seem out of sorts often. i just don't feel that musical connection. by the way, it's not my associated equipment. Warm sounding, deep bass I listened to the entire monitor line from the monitor 3 to monitor 11 and went with the 9's. I preferred the 11 but got the 9's as a demo model. I noticed a significant improvement over the monitor 3 I had previously. I also auditioned the monitor audio silver 8 and although the high end was cripser, I preferred the overall sound quality of the monitor 9. I highly recomend these speakers!
